The Others are the scientists who were put on the island to perform tests. They were messed up by the "electromagnetic thingy" that the countdown protects them from.

Clair's baby will be taken soon... this will cause Charlie to start using again.

mrklixx 11-30-2005 09:43 PM

Ain't nothing going to happen "soon". Not at least until their frikin' 6 week "hiatus" :(

What?? 6 weeks?? Say it ain't so...

Charlatan 12-01-2005 05:55 AM

Six weeks... just enough time for the Christmas season to get past us... Harmph. Cancel Christmas I want Lost.

Last night's episode was good.

Kate's crime flows nicely into my redemption theory. Her crime while bad was for a good reason. She saved her Mother from beatings and herself from abuse (I don't believe her when she says he didn't touch her nor when she says she did it because Wayne was in her... I don't think she was being honest).

Nice to see Sawyer up and around again.

The Kiss was so laden with irony... Kate, who has feelings for Jack and Sawyer (the good and the bad) freaks when she realizes she is kissing Jack. Jack, who's inability to get close to people and his guilt over his wife, freaks out because Kate is representing both of those in his face... Everyone on this show is so fucked up.

Locke and Eko continue to bond. There is more to the film that what was found. Someone is definately fucking with them.

barenakedladies 12-01-2005 06:04 AM

i loved the episode last night... i almost wwant to watch lost like i do 24, one season behind so i can rent the dvd's and keep wathing episode to episode...

Michelle Rodriguez and
Cynthia Watros, who star on ABC's "Lost," were arrested within 15 minutes of each other in Kailua for allegedly driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Both failed field sobriety tests and were released Thursday on $500 bail each, police said. The actresses, who were in separate cars, were arrested after their vehicles were spotted weaving on Pali Highway, which connects Kailua and Honolulu, police said.

Watros, who portrays Libby on "Lost," was arrested at 12:05 a.m. Rodriguez, who plays Ana Lucia, was arrested at 12:20 a.m., according to police records. Rodriguez was booked under the name Mayte Michelle Rodriguez.

A telephone call left with Rodriguez's publicist, Marcel Pariseau, wasn't immediately returned Friday. Watros' publicist, Dominique Appel, said Friday that she had no comment.

Rodriguez, 27, and Watros, 37, were to appear at a driver's license revocation hearing at Kaneohe District Court on Dec. 29, police records showed.

Motorists arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant automatically have their driver's licenses revoked. They are given a temporary license that allows them to drive, but under several restrictions.
Celebrating their new roles? I knew those people from the tail section couldn't be completely trusted yet...

Rekna 12-04-2005 08:12 AM

did anyone else notice the trainers hand in the scene when sawyer and kate saw the horse? I'd post a screenshot but I'm not sure how to take one from a video clip. I'm guessing it was a trainer and a mistake but it could have been something else? Anyway it is on the right side of the screen in the widescreen hdtv version.

JStrider 12-05-2005 08:28 PM

i saw the hand the second time i watched it...

They are definatly not already dead. This idea was quashed by the writers of the show on the official forums.

I don't think anyone's mentioned it in this thread before, but did anyone else notice that the Dharma logo in the bunker the tailies were in was an arrow instead of a swan?

How does Claire's baby fit into this theory of yours then? According to the psychic the child is evil.. :hmm:

Charlatan 12-13-2005 06:00 AM

I predict that the baby will have to go. It just hasn't been taken yet.

Nancy 12-13-2005 06:58 AM

^^Yes but why? It's neither innocent nor dead which, according to your theory, is the reason why The Others take somebody..

Charlatan 12-13-2005 07:04 AM

If the baby is evil, they won't come... but what baby is evil? It's innocent and it will be taken (if my theory is correct).

No. Under my theory, Walt is innocent. That's why the Others took him.

The theory, again, is that the survivors are all good people who have done some bad things.

Survivors that are innocent, were removed by the Others and those that are irredeemable have been killed.

It's all part of some experiment gone screwy.

So by your theory, does that mean that the majority of people from the front end of the plane need redemption? Because the Others have only kidnapped claire and walt from the front end survivors and they only sent Ethan to do it. (Charlie really only got taken because he was with Claire) So in your opinion, is an assault on the beach from the others impending where they do take some people from the front end?

Charlatan 12-13-2005 10:59 AM

I think the fact that front end people have guns has forced them to change their plans a bit.

There will be another attack and not everyone will get out unscathed.

Of course it's all just speculation...

According to the Lost website:

"But the psychic tells her that it's crucial she raise this child herself, warning her that great danger will befall her if she gives it up" and "But the tickets are for an Oceanic flight — and Charlie deduces that the psychic may have known about the plane crash all along and was consciously sending her and her baby to their death". Now why would he do that if there wasn't something wrong with the baby? And remember the look of panic on his face during the first reading? I just got the impression that the kid is evil and that Claire is the only one who can raise it to be good.. :hmm:

JStrider 01-07-2006 06:45 PM

i'm inclined to believe that somehow the baby is naturally evil, based on the reactions of the psychic...

isnt this week the new episode?

heywatsup 01-07-2006 09:05 PM

yep, wednesday 11th of jan is the new episode of lost :D
cant wait.

Daoust 01-11-2006 04:03 AM

I haven't seen any commercials for it yet. I'm surprised. You'd think after a 6 week hiatus they'd have a lead up...

mrklixx 01-11-2006 07:46 PM

After watching the "recap" episode, one question came to mind. If Bernard was in the crapper when the plane came apart, how did he wind up in a regular seat when he was dangling from the tree?

JStrider 01-11-2006 08:21 PM

Yeah, mine too. Very good.

Eko's backstory was good. It explains him for the most part, but I feel there's more there (why was he in Australia?). Him finding his brother in that plane (and it being his heroin) didn't surprise me that much. Nothing surprises me on the island anymore hehe.

It looks like that black smoke examined Eko and found him worthy.. or something.

Daoust 01-12-2006 04:07 AM

That black smoke shit almost single handedly ruined Lost for me entirely. I mean, every other thing on the whole Island has had some sort of rational, realistic explanation behind it. Yes there are some far fetched things... but COME ON!!!

I am severely disappointed with this black smoke plotline. How will they ever rationalize it....

I truly hope that this isn't the direction they're thinking of taking with Lost...

Catdaddy33 01-12-2006 05:27 AM

I'm still wondering how a small plane like that leaves Nigeria and ends up crashed on an island supposedly in the South Pacific... I have to say Mr. Eko's backstory was one of the better ones they've had.

Next weeks previews looks like we get more of Michael running through the jungle screaming "Jake!!" again, but this time he'll be armed!!

Charlatan 01-12-2006 05:47 AM

Dude... it's not Jake... it's Walt. WAAAAALT! WAAAAAALT!

That was a kick ass episode pretty much from start to finish. I've been thinking Eko was pretty bad-ass (plus I think the actor is great - he was great in OZ) but this episode removed all doubt.

He also falls smack dab into my theory that they are all on the island for some sort of redemption. He's a very bad man with a very conflicted soul.

Plus... I'd like to see Locke try to stare down the black smoke thing. Like I said, bad ass.

DarthDooku 01-12-2006 06:06 AM

Id have to agree with everyone, Mr. Eko is badass. That was pretty intense when he stared down the black smoke. I got two questions, why was Jack so surprised to hear Anna Lucia's name, and why is Charlie collecting virgin mary statues.

Daoust 01-12-2006 07:33 AM

Are you just starting to watch lost or something, DarthDooku? Rent Season 1, then come back here...

Charlatan 01-12-2006 07:37 AM

Jack met Anna Lucia in the airport before they boarded the plane. They had drinks together.

The statues have heroin in them. Charlie is a recovering heroin addict.

Black smoke? One word: nanotechnology.

fresnelly 01-12-2006 09:42 AM

Over at Fark.com, in the official discussion thread from yesterday, some people posted TIVO'd screen caps taken from the "smoke's" point of view. In them you can see some images from Eko's memories, leading to speculation that the little nano beasties can read your mind, or at least judge you in some way.

Link: http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comm...IDLink=1852377

Just beware that by the end of the thread, joke images are being photoshopped in for fun.

Also, a farker called StubePT, posted the following, which I think is neat:

Quote:

Jack - Man of Science
Locke - Man of Fate
Ecko - Man of Faith
Edit: Another theory brought up in that thread, is that the magnetic fields and computer code are what contain the nano-cloud on the island, therebye protecting the rest of the world.

I totally agree. They should never have shown the black smoke thing. Implied it was there, but never shown it.

How much more frightening would it have been if they had just cut back and forth between Mr. Eko staring it down and Charlie wetting himself interlaced with gutteral growling and first-person camera shots from the 'monster's' POV?

One of the reasons I've always enjoyed Lost was the fact that strange shit happens, but not strange enough to require an outlandish explanation.

I guess Michael is finally cracking up, eh?

And good for Charlie. I don't know what he's planning, but it's nice to have an 'escape' plan. If faced with starving to death, getting eaten by a polar bear, beaten to death by the 'others' or floating off to oblivion....I'd probably have to go with oblivion.

Edit: Just checked out the Fark thread and there was a reference to Eko's name and the word Echo (empty copy). I thought that was interesting since during one of the flashbacks Eko's brother told him he had no soul.

I think that (although not shown), it's already happened. It's already tested Locke, I believe. I think it happened early (I can't pinpoint the time). Remember when it was pulling him into a hole on Season 1 and he said "let me go! It's testing me!" (or something similiar)? He already knew what it was, so I think he faced it down before that.

Charlatan 01-12-2006 12:13 PM

Interesting Latch. I'm not convinced though.

JStrider 01-12-2006 01:09 PM

there was an episode in the first season where locke stared down the black smoke... they didnt show the smoke at all

they just had the monster approach and then locke staring up at it...

i'll see if I can figure out which episode it was

JStrider 01-12-2006 01:25 PM

found it... its season one episode 4 about 30 minutes into the episode without commercials

locke is hunting boar and he's chasing one and then all of a sudden there are monster sounds and the trees start shaking. Then it goes from the monsters point of view as the monster pushes through the trees and goes down towards him. Locke has a look of awe on his face, and then it cuts to something else

I think thats locke getting tested by the black smoke.

Charlatan 01-12-2006 01:53 PM

Well there you go. In that case, I would say that Eko, "not having a soul" isn't the issue here.

Perhaps it is their spirituality or even their lack of fear when it comes to death.

Latch 01-13-2006 07:05 AM

I still like your (original) theory that they're all due for redemption. Eko and Locke have both been tested and found 'worthy' as being good people (although they believe/pursue different things). They have gotten over the skelletons in their closets.

Once again, IMHO (based off Char's HO ;) ).

Charlatan 01-13-2006 07:31 AM

Interesting Latch. That fits with the theory nicely.

One question, why did the smoke try to take Locke when they had the dynamite?

Latch 01-13-2006 03:14 PM

Hmmm, I'll have to re-watch that episode before I make a guess...

DarthDooku 01-13-2006 03:53 PM

to those who replied to my post:

Im actually not a rookie. Ive been watching since the beginning. I guess i dont remember Anna Lucia, which is weird cause i would think i would have remembered Michelle Rodriguez. As for the statues, I guess I should have worded it differently. My thinking is that Charlie isnt going to start using again. I just dont see it happening. So why does he have a whole pile of statues buried. Maybe he's planning a mass suicide if they dont get rescued. Or maybe he wants to cash in when they do get rescued.

Latch 01-13-2006 04:36 PM

I think he's using them as a security blanket. He can go back to it if he needs to, but for now he has the willpower to stay away from it.. just not enough to not grab it when he can.

Yep, i agree with that.

i wanna know how the drug plane ended up on the island too !?

Latch 01-15-2006 01:57 AM

Somehow got off-track, just like the Oceanic Air flight... and the pirate ship.. and.. whatever else may be on that island :)

wocidej 01-16-2006 09:32 PM

The drug plane came from Africa. The idea of it going halfway around the world all the way to the middle of the Pacific Ocean is very unlikely. Either the island is moving, one of the planes was flying a very strange detour, or there is some sort of warp.

Official websites on the net(http://www.thehansofoundation.org/) keep referencing an island in Zanzibar or something, which is much closer to Africa, there could be some sort of connection between the two islands.

Last night's episode sure made it seem like Michael was losing a few of his marbles...

Speaking of last nights show, another mediocre effort in my opinion. Bringing in the others was just another example of the writers dangling a carrot that really provides the viewer with nothing new, nothing important and nothing that develops the plot.

I did predict the 'army' idea that Jack proposed to Anna Lucia at the end of the show... That would make for an excellent season finale, although I don't forsee it ending this season, maybe next...

heywatsup 01-19-2006 08:07 AM

didnt really enjoy the episode, but i like where the army thing is going, makes me so angry that jack could ask so many more questions in a spot like that but doesnt ! ;)
sucks now to wait a whole week now to see wat happens next lol

Charlatan 01-19-2006 08:17 AM

Daoust... isn't the whole premise of the show to continually dangle carrots and to slowly reveal more information (while creating more questions).

That is the whole point of Lost.

I thought the episode was fine. We have a little more of Jack's background, though I still wonder why his Dad ended up as he did.

Sawyer and Kate seem a little bit closer, Michael is nuts, the Korean couple has reached a new plateau in their relationship and Hurley has the hots for the psychiatrist.

I'd say, quite a bit of character development occurred.

Daoust 01-19-2006 09:48 AM

I know it's all about character development. I know. But I think I just got used to the idea of huge chunks of plot development being thrown at me, and then when it turns into pebbles, I am left disillusioned, hungy....

I just wish, like heywhatsup, that Jack would have asked more questions to the others. So much to know. So much to ask... But nothing!!! NOTHING! I know. THey'll meet up with the others again soon, have another directionless conversation, and leave again. I'll just have to wait till then.

Charlatan 01-19-2006 09:53 AM

Hahaha... infuriating is LOST.

JStrider 01-19-2006 12:02 PM

yah it is...
I completely agree with you Daoust
Jack really should have asked the others more questions

so they are gonna battle the others... or atleast be ready for a battle...

mrklixx 01-19-2006 12:29 PM

I think "zeke"s analogy was dumbass. If I went over to somebody's house for the first time and they started kidnapping and killing my friends and family, then damn strait I'm gonna trounce all through their house.

And when jack's wife said she had been seeing someone else, and she was leaving, I'd have been all about jumpin in the car and going back to a little grieving latino hottie action.

Charlatan 01-19-2006 12:32 PM

I'm sure it's somebody thats connected.

Top 3 guesses would be (in no order)
1)Jacks Dad
2)Sawyer
3)Desmond

But then again the way she said "someone" maybe hinted at some muffin luvin.
;)

DarthDooku 01-19-2006 11:01 PM

Well, I thought it was an amazing episode. Nice interaction with the "others". Sawyer's, or should i say James', last words...."Me and you aint done Zeke". It got my blood pumping. I think people need to realize this isnt a mini-series. They are going to make this last as long as possible. Its at the top of the ratings chart. Why would they want it to end. The "dangling carrots" are what make this show what it is. Im really surprised at the response to this episode.

DarthDooku 01-19-2006 11:05 PM

Oh yeah, Jack's dad? I dont think so. Sawyer, definitely has some possibilities, but i doubt it. I think Jack's wife leaving him isnt going to be a big secret we are waiting for the answers to. For it to be a part of the story, the person would probably have to be on the island. And i think Jack would have noticed them by now.

In a way I thought that was the next thing to come out of her mouth and was surprised (stupidly) that it was not and left unresolved.

Jack is inspirational to me. I just know the writers are going to show me he is a piece of crap or something. I am not the cheating type and don't think it would have happened to me, but that being said, having the old guy die on the table must have been pretty emotional for him. I suppose I could see how she kissed him and he kissed her back. The integrity that it took to tell his wife was really something else. He didn't wait days or longer to tell her. He told her straight away. What could not have been easy.

I really enjoy the charachter development in the show and the depth. It is interesting to show the "good guys finish last / girls like the bad boy" stuff with Kate. Looking at it the way they present it, Kate hates herself and so being around Jack makes her make uncomfortable realizations about herself. Therefore, she can be happy withherself when she can comiserate with "Sawyer".

Wonder how many times that is the case with gals in the real world?

blar 01-21-2006 07:07 PM

i think mr-ecko's past was one of the best stories

and if you guys remember in this just past episode one of the others (zeke i think his name is) was talking to jack about curiosity...saying "a man much smarter then us once said......"

well the guy who he was talking about is hanso
take a look at the http://www.thehansofoundation.org/ for his quote

heywatsup 01-22-2006 02:39 AM

the others have to be monitoring the castaways, everything "zeke" said was a fact, like the comment about opening doors, and he looked at locke :D

balderdash111 01-25-2006 07:15 PM

My current theories:

Zeke IS Hanso....

Claire is the Virgin Mary (she wears blue a lot, had a baby with a mysterious father, always looks beautiful, etc) (edit: I mean metaphorically, of course)

kofspades 01-28-2006 08:22 AM

My current theory:

This show is starting to get boring. Get to the point. Start answering some questions that are left over from the first season before introducing new questions. Stop showing flashbacks that add nothing to the story line.

RonRyan85 01-28-2006 10:36 AM

Guess I'm the one Oddball here that has a few gripes with LOST. I did
not like it at first...then I read where it was a SCIENCE FICTION show?
so I started looking and liked it more. My main gripe is it takes TOO
long to tell the story...should move faster. WHERE is the SCI-FI stuff?
(Yes the mystery animals, the computer in the underground Bunker. When
are they going to find the crashed ALIEN Flying Saucer?) STOP all of the
flashbacks about the people. We know their stories by now.

I still think X FILES was the best TV program. Mulder and Sculley
running around chasing all kinds of UFOs,Aliens and various monsters
and they did a whole show in an HOUR. Yes, they never got the goods
on the Mystery men: Cigarette Smoking Man, ect. CHRIS CARTER was the
best guy in creating a cool TV program. Now all the good shows are
on ABC. DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES,GREY'S ANATOMY,BOSTON LEGAL and Fox's "24".

RonRyan85 01-28-2006 10:50 AM

Speaking of "24": I know this will NEVER HAPPEN but I'd LOVE to see a
episode where Jack Bauer is busy as Hell, saving us from Atomic Bombs,
keeping the No-good President alive and stopping the terrorists from
blowing up everything when......the most beautiful babe in the world
wants him to join her in her hotel bedroom.......and there is a closeup
of Jack's sweaty face and his mind is going crazy.......and finally
he makes a decision.(Probably show ends here or whole year ends to hold
over Summer break. What does Jack do? Probably he says NO to her right?

There is something seriously wrong with Libby. First off, she told Hurley that he stepped on her foot when he got on the plane, which does not make sense because she was in the back of the plane! Hurley was in the front of the plane when he was making his entrance. So, he didn't step on anyone's foot.

Secondly, this little lie might lead to the two of them meeting at the psych ward. This is just a theory, but perhaps she was in there for being a compulsive liar. I am not exactly sure if they place people in a ward for that kind of thing.

Also, Libby mentioned the fact that the washer/dryer set was the only thing new in the hatch. Why would the hatch contain old computers from the 70's and have new washer/dryer units?

Charlatan 01-28-2006 05:54 PM

Hurley definanately stepped on someone's feet getting on the plane. I don't have that episode so I can't check. Can some else check?

The fact that she was in the front doesn't mean much. Bernard was in the front when they took off but in the back for the crash (he was in the bathroom).

Moskie 01-28-2006 06:09 PM

@RonRyan: this is probably gonna sound prickish, but people who like this show for the "science fiction" aspect to it are never, ever going to be satisfied with where the show ends up. Given what they've introduced, there is nothing that can act as a fitting tell-all explanation. soo... be prepared for dissapointment.

The characters (flashbacks included!) are the meat and potatoes of this show.

oh yea, and I think that Hurley knowing Libby from the nut house is a good call. Didn't he ask Libby if he's met her before? Something tells me he's referring to an occasion prior to the plane ride....

Charlatan 01-28-2006 06:17 PM

Now that I think about it, she is a psychologist. She could have been treating Hurley.

Hurley was the last person to get on the plane because he lost power in the hotel room and over slept. The only person he interacted with (besides the people at the airport who were in his way and the old man he bought the wheelchair from) was Walt, a brief head nod and then Hurley sat down to listen to music and read the spanish comic book.

Maybe she was a counselor at the ward or maybe I am over-analyzing everything. This individual thinks this is the Ultimate Lost Theory What do you all think?

heywatsup 01-29-2006 10:00 AM

wow... thats a very in depth theory that blokes thought up..

id like to agree with alot of that, but then again i hope its not true

i just hope this show actually has an ending to it somehow and it do what alias did and get canned :(

blar 01-29-2006 10:30 AM

or libby could be a patient at the ward and she is lying about being a psychologist

Nancy 02-01-2006 03:50 AM

Nancy 02-01-2006 03:54 AM

^^ FOUND IT! (episode 3):

The official website says that the logo is a Chinese Feng Shui Ba-Gua Mirror symbol. Does anyone know what Ba-Gua means?

Some of you have discussed the link between their current situation on the island and the books which Sawyer reads. These books were located in the hatch: Henry James - "The Turn of the Screw" and Flann O'Brien - "The Third Policeman", Craig Thomas - "A Hooded Crow", Gary Phillips - "High Hand", Henry James - "The Turn of the Screw", Stuart Woods - "Dirty Work" and Tom Clancy - "Rainbow Six" <~ does anybody know what the plot of the books are?

As for the numbers:
16 - Desmonds stationary bike shows 16 mph on the speedometer [S2E1]
8 - There are 8 switches for orienting the mirrors in the hatch [S2E1]
8 - There are 8 bottles/containers of cleaning supplies in Desmond's laundry [S2E1]
4 - Desmond's blender has 4 prongs [S2E1]
4 - Desmond tosses 4 items around while making his breakfast shake [S2E1]
4 - There are 4 articles of clothing spinning in Desmond's dryer [S2E1]
42 - There are 42 water nozzle openings on Desmond’s shower head [S2E1]
4 - There are 4 jumpsuits hanging in the closet [S2E1]
23 - The number on the spin dial lock is set to 23 [S2E1]
42 - The number on the spin dial lock is paused on 42 [S2E1]
16 - The two outer rows of Desmond’s shower head contain 16 water nozzles [S2E1]
002:38 - A countdown clock displays the number 002:38 [S2E2]
002:37 - A countdown clock displays the number 002:37 [S2E2]
002:36 - A countdown clock displays the number 002:36 [S2E2]
108.00 - A countdown clock is reset to the number 108:00 [S2E2]

Ok, I'm a fan of Lost, sure, but if I ever get to the point of counting the holes in the shower head of a minor characters bathroom, shoot me. Fatally. In the face.

Oh and:

"BIO:

Last Name: Hanso
Sex: Male
Citizenship: Denmark

What? When did they reveal that he's from Denmark?!

Oh and remember when the Bearded Man says: "Bring 'er out, Alex!". <~ Could that be Alex - Danielle's daughter?

Anyone know?

I hadn't even noticed that :o Did it only happen in one particular episode?

Apart from the numbers I spot "sick" at the bottom, right after the "M".. perhaps it says "I'm sick"?
