I thought the last episode was pretty weak. To much time was spent on the lottery ticket.

But that's what Lost is about... it is about BOTH the situation in which our survivors have found themselves but also who they were before they arrived on the island.

Personally, I am very interested in the latter. I like they way in which their pasts influence their present and show an interconnectedness to everything that existed prior to their internment on the island.

Lost has really surprised me. After the season finale, I thought "yeah, they lost me." The situation in the Hatch and some of the other things that are happening have gotten me addicted again, though :)

I just hope they don't drag the "Jin/Mike/Sawyer with the tail section, no one knows they're alive and on the island" story too far. I'm eager for the reunion :)

On a side note, this story makes Sawyer seem a bit softer to me. If Sawyer was real, he'd attack the guy.. or spend the rest of his life hunting for him ;)

Something occurred to me last night, considering it was a Sydney to LA flight, there aren't many Aussies that survived the flight...

I've been on the Sydney to LA flight about 4 times... on each flight, there have been very few Aussies on board...

In last night's episode Jin says something to Michael to get him to turn around. Does anyone know what he said? I listened to it 3x and couldn't figure it out.

Jins command of the english language seems to have made a huge jump since the last episode...

I was talking about that earlier with my friend. I guess the writers are trying to make him more accessible as a character, but he has been learning English awfully fast.

Jin's English has improved a little too much I'd say, at least from one episode to the next. At this rate he'll be fluent by the end of the season.

I think they're going for the "the best way to learn a language is to emerse yourself in it" English learnin' for Jin.

All studio series are like this... a few years ago the channels increased the number of weeks in the TV season but didn't increase the number of episodes ordered per season (22 episodes). What they now do is put in a few breaks and play reruns. It lets those who missed a few episodes get caught up, but pisses everyone else off...

Anyone else think it's hilarious that Michelle Rodriguez shot Shannon? Not really the Shannon dying part, but there she was, bitching at Echo because they lost a person going through the jungle. Then she goes and shoots Shannon. I don't know, I just think that's funny. Especially the look on her face when she realized that she shot a real person.

I love it when characters die doing something stupid. Shannon was hot and all, but outside of that, the least interesting character on the show.

That's the one fellow on the island I would not want to piss off. The bamboo shoot thing from last season still makes my skin crawl. In my opinion, Mr. Echo (?) should have beaned that bitch with his big stick a few miles back.

So, who was the castaway killed? Which one counted? Was it the chick that disappeared on the way up the ravine or was it Shannon?

If the 'tailie' counts as the castaway killed...well, it seems like an easy way to build some drama by shooting Shannon, but not have to kill off a member of the core cast.

She's a piece of work, no doubt about it.

The whole episode, it seems to me, was designed to make the viewer sympathetic to her plight. Poor girl, lost her dad, her step-mother is a bitch, had to turn down a prestigious internship... all in a slip-shod manner to explain why she turned into the psycho-tramp that we were introduced to in the flashbacks from the first season. The whole thing did nothing for me.

All that said, I just can't imagine that they'll kill her off. Not with Boone already gone.

I too noticed Jack slip by Shannon in that scene. Kinda makes me want to sing "It's a small world". I also amused myself by imagining what Matthew Fox's day was like that day of shooting. "Ok Matt, you just have walk by the camera kinda hurriedly, not saying a thing, then you're done for the week. You're not in the rest of the episode."

It's probably just me, but I've found that the most likeable characters are Jin, Sayid, and now Echo. There's just something about them that makes me more interested in their story lines.

The most likely scenario has them shooting all the hospital scenes some time ago (like July or August). So Fox was probably busy prepping for his other hospital scenes (like in the first episode of the season).


I liked the actor who plays Echo when he was in Oz and I like him now. There's just something inherently dangerous, yet cool about him.

Remember the episode where Jack tried to save that girl(who Jack ended up marrying) only to have her miraculously healed at the end? They brought in two people on stretchers in that episode, the other was a guy and he died. I'm betting that Shannon's dad was the other guy, and that he and Jack's wife crashed into each other. In the newest episode, Jack was probably on his way out to go run up and down the stadium where he met Desmond.

Thumbs up for last night's episode. I liked it a lot. I think I have a new found appreciation for Michelle Rodriguez. I didn't like her at the start. I found they tried to make her a little more friendly this time around. It's going to be interesting to watch the two tribes merge over the coming weeks.

Last night was a good episode, left me wanting to see more of the tail-ies 1st 48 days...

I thought it was crap.

First of all it was filler and I hate filler. It was interesting to see what happened to the tail-ies, it certainly wasn't 'a special extended episode' worth of interest. It probably wasn't even a full hour worth of interest, to tell the truth.

I think the problem with the episode (other than me really wanting to know what Sayid is going to do with Miss Hardcore) was that I just wasn't all that interested in them. I know nothing about them; I've got no back story. I barely know their names. The 'Echo' thing was interesting and the bit with the radio where Barnard made contact with Boone was nice, but the rest of the show...'twas worthless. Could've all been summed up in couple of sentences when the two groups got together.

Next week previews look pretty interesting, eh?

While I thought last night's episode wasn't as great as they made it sound, there may be interesting clues that weren't part of the plot. For instance, the U.S. Army stamp on the knife, and the interestingly pleased look on Goodwin's face when they found the bunker and radio...

I still dislike Michelle Rodriguez just as much. I was hoping to get a good explanation as to why she is such a bitch all the time - something that would make me more sympathetic to her character. What they showed didn't really do that for me. In the beginning, she was very compassionate and caring, but it didn't take long for her to become very domineering and aggressive. Not to mention, now she is responsible for the deaths of at least two people (the guy she wrongfully accused and threw in the pit and Shannon).

In the previews it looked like she was afraid of Sayid and maybe even attacking him pre-emptively at one point. Seems to me like she (her assertive, yet wrong instincts) is more dangerous to the group than he is... Unfortunately for me, it looks like they've developed her too much to kill her off and lose the opportunity to keep the focus on her.

I like the Annalouisa character. I have feeling she is going to have been either a marine or special ops. She will likely have a lot in common with Sayeed.

I think we are going to find that she has been though some pretty nasty shit in her past and that all of this is bringing it back (her back story will come, just give it time). She will be redeemed (if I can read my achetypes correctly).

It looked like she had Sayeed tied up in the promo. He is definately not someone I would want to piss off.

I don't like Ana's 'Lord of the Flies' character. I hate that Nathan was killed. Fine young Canadian lad, who did not kowtow to Ana's egomania.

Can't figure out why they would get rid of his character so quickly.

Hell, the last Canadian on the show was shot by Charlie... granted he was one of "the Others" but 2 and 0 for the Canucks.

It also showed that "the others", are a bit more organized than a bunch of shoeless maniacs, since they had 2 spies (Ethan and Goodwin) ready to go within minutes of the crash on opposite sides of the island, almost like "they" were expecting flight 851. Hmmmmm.

yea, I'm with Guthmund. I'm not as vehemently against the episode, but it wasn't anything special. I was hoping we'd be introduced to some new aspects of who "the others" are, but we weren't. All we saw was that they're sneaky, and they take people, especially kids.... which we already knew.

and the extra 5 minutes were a total gip! they were just clips from last week!

i thought it was alright... i was expecting a few episodes about the tail section tribe... maybe even the rest of the season... and we would get some of their backstories and whatnot... it was definently weird not having the normal characaters in it...

I liked it very much. It was nice to see an episode shot in a different way than the usual "present-flashback-present" approach.

The main thing I noticed from this episode was Bernard on the radio talking to Boone. In this week's episode it was Day 40, on the other side of the Island, Day 40 was the day the raft was launched and Boone had already been dead for almost a week.

Am I missing something here or is this a GIANT mistake?

I didn't get why Echo was being all quiet and stuff. What's with that?

Early prediction for next week. Jacks jealous of Kates and Sawyers relationship; in an attempt to thwart it, he tells Kate he likes her; Kate falls for it, they share a brief moment of intimacy, the Jack says or does something dumb to jeopardize it; Kate goes back to Sawyer when he inevitably wakes from his com; which will probably happen when Kate kisses him.

Fairly solid prediction.


I liked the episode. As I suspected Ana-Lucia is messed up. Now we just need to know why she was in Australia. I suspect she was there to run away from her actions and was on the flight to return to justice (kind of a recurring theme with the show).

Good to see Bernard and his wife finally hook up. Do you think they will have a hot sex scene later in the season?

I think Eko is going to be a nice counterpoint to John Locke. They are both seem to be mystically driven.

As for the Sayid and Ana-Lucia both being dead... it fits the purgatory theme nicely. I still don't think they are in purgatory for real... just symbolically. Everyone on the island seems to have something to atone for... those that can't atone are killed off. (Remember the guy saying, Nathan was not on the list, he wasn't a good person). The innocents, like the children, have been removed from the equation. Because they are innocent.

I admit, I got a little teary during the reunion scene. I'm glad they didn't draw out an Ana-Lucia holding Sayid hostage storyline beyond this episode.

Even knowing that Ana lost her baby doesn't make me like her or feel sorry for her. At least Sawyer is funny and when a true emergency comes up he can be counted on. He just doesn't want anybody to know it. As far as I can see, Ana is just an idiot with little redeaming quailites.
I also teared up at the Bernard/Rose reunion. I was waiting for it ever since they found the tail section survivors.

I didn't really like this one either. Ana would be a good character if they'd just delve into her a little bit more. I get it. She's angry. Let's move it along a bit, shall we? Surely there are other emotions and avenues to explore than pouty-anger, eh?

I understand for story reasons why they did the things they did, but when Ana-Lucia gave Michael that list of things to bring back, why did he go?

And Sayid... I am so disappointed.

I tend to agree on your read of Ana-Lucia BUT given the pace of character development on this show I am willing to give them more time to bring her around... there is still a lot that is missing in her back story. We may not get that until season 3 the way things are going.

As for Sayid, I like his reaction. Sayid, like so many of the survivors, is a broken man. He is a good person who did some very evil things and has had some nasty things done to him.

He didn't want to torture the Other that they captured... but he did. And clearly 40 days later it is still bothering him.


I still say that he an Eko are going to have a lot in common when it comes down to it. I would not be surprised to find out that Eko was responsible for genocide in Rawanda.

I think you're right, Roland. I know he tortured Sawyer, but I don't remember him having a go at Ethan.

Now that would be interesting. Eko is going to be a fun character to watch, I think. Like Roland said, Eko seems to have more in common with Locke what with being in tune with the voodoo, so to speak, more so than the others. It should get interesting.

As for Sayid, I'm disappointed that he didn't do anything. I didn't expect him to beat the snot out of her or shoot her in the knee cap, but I expected something. I'm supposed to buy into the story that he had strong enough feelings for this girl to do the things he did, but not strong enough to sustain even the tiniest bit of rage? A couple of hours tied to a tree by the woman who shot Shannon and we get...empathy and some psuedo-philosophy? Bah..

Right it was Sawyer... my bad.

He's a religious guy and I think he gave up speaking for 40 days as a kind of penance for killing the 'others' that tried to take him. Kind of like lent I guess.

I listened to the "official" Lost podcast with the producers/writers of the show, and they said that Michelle didn't want Ana to be a bitch, they said that she has to start off that way but as the character progresses she will "soften", I guess we saw some af that last week in her backstory.

I've never thought of Michelle Rodriguez as very good looking, but she does look quite attractive in lost. I can't really imagine her in a long floral dress though!

This goes very well with my theory that the survivors are all there to seek some sort of personal redemption for their past actions... They are all good people who have done something bad and need to atone. As opposed to the ones that the Others took, who were either innocent (taken) or irredeemable (dead).

That makes a lot sense, because they took the kid's from the tailies group and they were innocent, but then why did they show the little boy's bear hanging from a rope when they were walking past Jin and Eko?

I think either:

a) that was the kid walking by
or
b) one of the Others just liked the bear and kept it...


I like to think "a" is the most likely reason.

I like the "redemption" theory, except...

- Who are the Others in relation to this? Are they there to punish to people? Protect the innocents? Help the person grow?
- Why haven't they taken Claire's baby yet?

Maybe it's just a matter of time before this is all revealed....
