Lost season 2
Well folks, the wait is almost over, less than 2 weeks til the second season of Lost, the most original tv show since 24, if you want to know how I feel. I praise ABC for not only show reruns in order.. effectively running the whole season twice ( which let my brother FINALLY watch the show I've fawned over for months ) and for not giving away too much with teaser spots.
Anyone else as pumped for this as me? |
FUCK!
season two is almost ot in America??? season one only just finished over here! i'm soooo jealous! |
They are going to make it for another series!!!! NOooooooooo.
I'm in the UK and thought it would be resolved as a one off series. It's too slow to watch in real time anyway. It's a record and fast forward series  |
Honest... this is America. The only "one off series" they make are cancelled ones (like Firefly).
The DVD of season one comes out this week as well. |
I'm looking forward to it. Apparently the first episode will show us what's down the hatch... besides (spoiler if you haven't seen last season's finale) Spoiler: a ladder going nowhere....
Good idea on starting a second thread for the new season, by the way. I have a feeling the second season will generate more dicussion than the first one did ;) |
my BIL works for Disney and I'd like to get a copy of the DVD series from him but I really want to watch the whole thing again before we get back and have to watch the Tivo'd season 2.
there's too many little hints dropped all over the place that I really want to watch it a least a 2nd time. |
I've been waiting for this for a while, can't wait until the new season starts, hopefully it'll be as good as the last one.

good point. I forgot it's not about telling a story but milking an idea until it's dead. |

I cant wait for the next season... i've been rewatching the first season with a buddy... only a couple more eps to go...
i was kinda bummed when they decided to take it to another season... hopefully they are able to keep this season as good as the first... |

Why does the fact that I totally loved the show make me an optimist? You expect it to suck? why are you a realist? |

I read an interview with one of the brain trust of Lost that said the toughest part would be the pace at which to dole out answers to questions.. if it is going to run 3 seasons versus 7 would affect when we find out things.
|
woooooo only 2 more days!!!
i cant wait! |
I'm kicking myself in the ass for not catching the first season. I luckily caught up a bit when they replayed them. Unfortunatly I missed a couple of episodes here and there. Good television.
|
wooo just a couple more hours...i cant wait!
|
Here we go
|
so, you guys like?
I approved of it. We weren't really led around in circles. At first, when they decided to leave the hatch behind, I was afraid the show was going find a way to make it so they didn't explore the hatch, but I'm sure as hell glad that didn't happen. My official guess is that Desmond has run into each of the surviors at some point in their lives, similar to how he met Jack in the stadium. That's what his "race around the world" was... This goes along with why Locke was so calm with a gun pointed to his head: he knew Desmond from his past, and this helped to confirm that this is all part of everyone's destiny. And I didn't even realize until the end that we have no idea what's happened to the people on the raft. I wonder if they're just going to end up ashore and then meet up with everyone, or if they're going to find a new part of island relating to the people who took Walt.... |
i liked it...
definently want to know whats happening to the guys on the exploded raft... i think moskie is dead on with his idea with all the people having met him. |
the beauty of Tivo... I'm transferring it to my desktop and will FTP it to my laptop here in Manila in just a bit :) wheeeeee!!!!

And if so... care to share how? (I've tried several, but all have failed miserably.) ;) And yes, I think this was a VERY good episode. No real answers, but MANY more questions! I love this show!!  |
no i'm just d/l the .tivo file and playing the files via media player... i'm too lazy to do much more to it.. but recently someone did email me this info....

<strike>so em, i had assumed i wouldnt have any benefit to the functionality of the tivo desktop stuff, but what kind of connection is required to transfer files from tivo to computer, and would a directv tivo purchased in the last 6 months work? (non hd)</strike>
*edit* a google search later ive answered my own question :p |
Man, that sudden appearance/disappearance of Walt in the jungle gave me the willies.
Cool episode, on the whole. |
Sub-par acting, A hold your hand plot(i totally knew that dude from the flashback was going to re-emerge in that place), and people getting sucked in turbine engines...yet i can't look away.
BTW that Invasion show that follows it is awful. |
In the beginning where they showed that guy (and I thought 'woah, this dude's in the hatch') I noticed in a profile shot (when he was looking in his periscope thing) that his face had pockmark/scars/stuff like that. I thought "awesome, they put willem dafoe on the show!"
Then they did a similar profile of the dude running on the steps... and I thought "hmm.. that looks familiar" haha. I agree with Moskie's thoughts. This guy has run into everyone at some point in the past, and orchestrated a lot of what is seen and heard. I'm just not sure why/what/how. At least we have (part) of the "who". |
Latch?
how have u seen it already?? don't tell me they r running it on the East Coast??? |
Bittorrent mate.. stops you from having to rely on Seven/Nine/Ten's horrible delays and schedules.
|
Saw it last night folks and all I can say is THIS SHOW ROCKS!!! The writers knew they needed to start the season off strong and they sure did that!
The first five minutes totally had me fooled! I was so sure it was a flashback! I'm totally stoked to find out what happens to Walt next week. BTW, I don't know how to use spoiler tags, and I don't care because the show was on last night and so it's fair game to talk about it now. If you don't want to know what happens, don't read the thread, it's that easy. |
My wife keeps kicking me: I say the actor's lines before they do. (Like Locke at the hatch to Kate, "I was waiting for you") Predictable, but I'm enjoying the ride.
Anyone else notice that the drug Desmond injected into his arm at the start of the show had "4 8 15 16 23 42" on the label? |
hearing alot of talk about the show, but any theories on what's REALLY going on in the show. me and my aunt have debated our theories and i think a few of mine were confirmed last night. granted, alot of it still has me puzzled, but here goes with what i think i DID figure out. first of all, it's not an island, it's some sort of ship. started thinking this when the compasses were screwing up in season 1. it's not that something on the island is messing with them, but the island/ship is changing direction. sort of enforced my theory when the guy made the comment about a race around the world. second, if you look at this in tv producer terms, how can you keep the show going if you figure everything out on the island? how can they keep it interesting? and would they just kill a show that is making them millions when the mystery of the island/ship is solved? heck no! so the only way they could keep this thing going for years (and they will because it is so successful) is to put it on a bigger scale. here's my thought. when they were in the air, something apocolyptic happened to the earth. show could run forever if they had to go and bring back a civilization that was "lost". the thing that helped me reinforce my theory about that was the guy down the hatch inaculating himself at the very beginning. like i said. still alot has got me baffled, and thats why its such a great dam show. can't wait for 2nd episode od season 2.
|
Quote:
|
2nd episode just ended and all i can say is wow!...dam they sure have a way of hooking you in for next week...don't they?
|
So that's what that sucking sound was...
|

Quote:
|
I for one was a little pissed that the "Down the hatch" story in the 2nd episode finished exactly where it did in the first. An intriguing narrative technique to be sure, but this will be really tedious if every episode is going to be that circular.
|
Is that a case of blue-balls or what!?!
Soooo disappointed. |
Quote:
Just what I was thinking, fresnelly! I think this is one of the first episodes of Lost that I"ve actually been disappointed with. I really and truly hope that last night's episode isn't going to be the pattern for the rest of the season. To me it's a sign that they're already in trouble continuing the plot. They don't want to give away too much too soon, and they've got precious little to spread out... Ridiculous that they kept replaying the hatch scenes. Who cares that Kate ate a chocolate bar? The Sawyer/shark/raft scenes were ridiculous... You could almost hear the directors saying "kill more time" And that they miraculously drifted right back to shore of their island... if they could find it twice, why couldnt a search and rescue team??? |
Quote:
No. What I meant was... that sucking sound was all of us getting sucked in... |
You've gotta keep dumbing it down for us simple folks, huh Charlatan? It's hard, being a genius.
|
Is it me or did they replay Mike's flashbacks from last season? I got a deja vu feeling about those... The hatch scene was "interesting" having it end the same place last week did, I was pissed that they didn't at least go a little further with that...
If they get beamed up by aliens..I'll stop watching and shoot my TV... |
I had watched the first season's 'cliffhanger' a couple weeks back and I could not stop nitpicking. Perfectly coifed hair on some, the others looking like coal miners(mostly the men). Blowing up the one character with a stick of dynamite, but the others a couple of feet away did nothing more than avert their eyes and came away unscathed? Then a few sticks can blow up a hatch door, but standing back just a few feet is ok. The fat kid starts out chasing the flight with two bags, but gets on with one....
But decided to give it a second chance and watched it last night. Ugh...there's an hour I'll never get back. And this was voted "Best Drama"??? |
"The fate of the survivors will be revealed"...this was the advertised voice over that aired all week prior to last night's episode. Did i blink too long? what is their fate? Other than them possibly becoming sick (Desmond asked Jack if the other people on the surface became sick).
I was pissed that the episode ended only a mere few minutes, in plot, ahead of where the premiere ended. Okay so kate got a pocket full of candy and sawyer, the blk guy, and the Japanese guy are now back on the island...but they're being chased by some other people... |

Im not disappointed with anything they've done so far. The hatch is a really big deal so they're teasing us with it. Im sure they got plenty of plots. I also had no problems with the raft scenes. And it was the current that brought them back to the island, although im sure there are higher powers at work, what does that have to do with a rescue being able to find them. It was great when the chinese dude came running out of the jungle. Looks like the rafters are going to be imprisoned by the "others". But i think someone might have gotten away, cause they only showed one of the rafters in a cell and he was with someone from the plane crash that never made it to the rest of the group.
Finally, im curious about all the stuff inside the hatch. It seemed like there was a countdown that reset when Locke entered in the cursed numbers. It looked like Desmond left him in charge in the next-week previews. So i guess Desmond took Jack somewhere and Kate is still in the vent. Cant wait till next week. |
I didn't get to see the previews for next weeks episode. Can anyone give me a link to a site that would have it???
|
So what is Jin's nationality? After reading the past few posts, he could be a Japanese guy, a Korean guy, or a Chinese dude!
|
I hat ethat there was little if ayn progress made as far as the story goes. What the hell is going on. As pissed as this show makes me I am addicted. I am guessing that the whole punching the number in the Comp is to prevent a self destruct sequince. To make sure if anybody dies then the whole facility will be destroyed. As long as there is somebody alive to ppunch in the code it will still be left standing. Just my opinion though. I loved the down the shirt view of Kate in the Ducting.
|
He speaks Korean. He is from Korea. His name is Korean. He's played by a Korean-American (who even looks Korean). Jin is Korean.
Did anyone make out the name of the company that has Desmond down in the hole? And did anyone notice that the logo incorporates symbols from the i-ching? |
Quote:
As far as the first 2 episodes ending at the same point, I rather liked it, it filled in what was happening timewise. I thought they took a 2 hr season premiere and broke it into 2 separate eppys. As far as the fate of the survivors being revealed, I took that to mean that those on the raft were unaccounted for in the opening episode... now we know.. well, we don't know about Walt, come to think of it. |
Quote:
|
i thought it was alright... a bit tedius seeing the same thing from different point of views...
and no i didnt catch the logo on the shark... *goes to rewatch that scene* |
Anyone notice the candy bars? Looked like Apollo or something like that. Next weeks episode I think answer alot as Jack seems to go off with the that guy. I guess he knows the answer to the joke about the snow men or whatever.
|
The company name is "Dharma", with picture of what looked like a swan's head and neck behind it, surrounded by the hexagram thingies. Wikipedia says Dharma is the "way of higher truths" in Bhuddism.
|
The hexagram "thingies" are symbols from the i-ching... They carry meaning. I just don't have a clue how to read them.
|
I caught the company's name (Dharma), but I sure didn't see that on the shark...
Good eye, wondash. I was kind of disappointed by this episode. Not because it just rehashed the previous show, but because as much as I like Sawyer and Mike, they a show do not make. I kept waiting for them to cut back to the bunker despite the fact that I already knew how it turned out. |
I would not have pressed the button. No way, no how.
|
I'd have definately pressed it, I'd hate to have lasted that long on the island, just to die because you didn't press the button. But who knows, Jack could have been right.
|
Let’s say for the sake of argument that the button does prevent some sort of self-destruct sequence. Why would anyone design a system that requires a reset every 108 minutes? With a staff of two, you have two choices, shifts or alternate. With shifts, you risk the man on duty falling asleep. With alternation, neither person gets a full night sleep. Jack’s explanation makes more sense; it’s just an experiment to f with their minds.
|
Watching the film it seems to suggest that there are probably two other "stations" on the island. Swan station is just one of them.
It looks like the "others" that have Mike, Sawyer and Jin are survivors from the tail section of the plane. They probably think M,S and J are The Others... |
Just another disappointing show, in my opinion.
You never tell the 'new guy' the plan. Maybe I've watched too many spy movies or maybe it's the intense parnoia kicking, but if someone is thrown into your prison with no explanation....they're a spy! And what the hell is wrong with Jack? I used to like this guy. Now every other shot is him doing 'crazy' eyes, waving a gun and propagating quasi-nihilist philosophy....or crying, for what reason, I don't understand. I wouldn't have pushed the button either. Seems kind of funny that 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 = 108. Seems a little too neat. Not to mention, no replacements, no way to contact those in charge and no redundancy in case of a serious screw-up. I mean, what if Desmond and his buddy ate some bad food? What if they both passed out from some rare strain of some long forgotten Pacific influenza? Not to mention the idea of 5 (I thought there were 5...didn't the video say 3 of 5?) other installations, which I assume are on the island with 5 other 'Desmonds' keeping the end of the world at bay is a bit disturbing, to say the least. Speaking of Desmond...I kind of like him. I especially like the way he adds 'brother' to the end of his sentences. I thought that kind of went out with the Hulkamania, but Desmond manages to pull it off....brother. And I got a kick out of the film, brother. Ah, I guess it isn't for me....:( |
I think Jack is still reeling from the bit of information that Sawyer dropped on him only a few hours earlier... that Sawyer had met his Dad in a bar and his Dad had appologized...
This is all tied up with Jack's wife and the fact that he couldn't save her. I bet it turns out that his Dad, tried some operation on her and in the end it killed her. Add to this the fact that Desmond just showed up out of nowhere... All of these coincidences would drive a rational mind like Jack's to distraction. |
I heard the director and ABC are argueing over a timeline. The director wants a timeline how events will come out for the show. While ABC wants the show to go on and on, with no end since it is such a hit.
|
Anyone else notice that during the training video it skips over just as the guys says "And whatever you do, don't..."? I thought that was classic Lost...always leaving pieces out here and there. And I, for one, wouldn't have pressed the button.
|
From watching that film i don't think there are other installations in the island just that one was done there because that portion of the island had a strong magnetic force they were studying.
However from everything else on the video and what the Dharma group was doing, I think it sounds like a psychology study about getting people to do something just because I mean someone has been putting in those numbers since the early 80's every 108 minutes at that installation on faith alone that something bad would happen if they didn't with no question of what that is. Maybe they can further explore the compound to see what's what. |
After watching Wednesday nights episode, I think I was a little disappointed. I think I liked the mystery of the hatch more than the explanation of it. It seems they've had to work to hard to try to make everything make sense. The writers are really straining to keep the storyline interesting and yet credible. I like what could be happening with the "others", and all that, but the hatch story is starting to lose me. Like, when Sayid and the others come down the hatch for the first time they don't spend any time showing the cast aways just looking at the whole place. If it were me and I were stranded on an island for 40 days and I found this super cool underground science lab, I'd be pretty blown away by it. I'd be exploring it.
And I don't like that the Desmond guy just leaves out of nowhere. Yeah right. It's like a play script. Desmond is a source of information. He enters the scene, gives a few teases, then exit stage left, perhaps never to be heard from again, except the odd time to give a little more info. DESMOND would have known where the panel was to turn the power back on again! He lived there for crap sakes!!! Lastly... The French Woman, remember her? Who wants to bet that the girl that gets dropped into the pit with Sawyer and the others turns out to be the French womans daughter??? |
Quote:
|
I forgot that part. Screw that theory then.
|
To the people that are disappointed with the hatch, what would have made you happy? What would you have done differently that would have made it more interesting or compelling?
|
Good question. I don't know. I guess I just liked not knowing for sure. I liked the open endedness of it. I suppose that no matter what the hatch might have been it would be hard to make everyone happy with what it was. We'll just see how the story unfolds...
|

That being said, a marathon of this stuff can be damaging. I went to Utah on business earlier this week and wondered around a company I do a lot of business with for two days. Talked to various people and as I passed through different rooms, I scribbled the numbers on EVERY WHITEBOARD IN THE PLACE. In fact I was waiting to meet with one of their programmers to give him some instructions and I piled up the change on his desk in 6 little stacks. Guess how much money was in each stack? They shifted gears is the answer to what some of you are liking or not liking about these new episodes. I don't really see the need for more people since we don't even know the 46 we have (what is it about me and shows that count down the number of surviving people...). I think the thing is that we have to get used to some new threads. While most shows arguably had one thread (and maybe a couple subthreads that may have been related) there are at least two distinct threads emerging if not three that we have to follow. Sure they will converge again, but we are in for a few weeks of this I suspect. 1 - The Company (Hatchdudes inc.) 2 - The Others 3 - Survival / interpersonal communication of the OG cast not with the others |
If anyone is interested in the LOST numbers,
http://thelostnumbers1.greatestjournal.com/ Some of it is pretty far fetched but still interesting. |

I guess this last set of coincidences just hit closer to home. What was it Locke said to him, 'there are no coincidences?' I guess he's starting to realize that Locke may be on to something....something totally irrational? Quote:
Maybe I need a break, eh? By the way, I tried slipping the word 'brother' into the end of my sentences like Desmond... you know...cause I was bored and thought it was kind of funny. Not one. Not one of my co-workers caught it. I guess they're just not Lost fans. :D I think one of the patrons who overheard me knew what was going on, but she didn't say anything, which is a shame. She was kind of cute. Edit: Oh yeah, and thanks for the link, bparker. I'm going to go check it out psychosis be damned! |

Hmmm, that might explain some of the odd looks, eh? Great. Here I was trying to be 'quirky' and jumped straight into 'psychopath.' I guess I'll need to stay very boring the next week or so to undo any damage done.....brother. |
Here are some theories of mine. I'm not tied to these, please destroy them if you can... because they're infecting my brain.
The man who apparently financed the project according to the video: a younger Locke's father? The woman in the photo with Desmond: Jack's wife? I don't understand how that could work... but that's what theories are for The shark in the water: had the symbol on it, we know that. But the symbol is slightly different. There's no swan on it, just a straight line with a seeming bulge in it. What that means, I dunno. But there it is. The book that there's a closeup of is titled "The Third Policeman." A search on Amazon turns this up. (Interestingly enough, the third result in that search was the Girls Gone Wild: Extreme DVD...) The driver of the SUV that hit the woman that will become Jack's wife had a time of death of 8:15. His last name was Rutherford, same as Shannon and (late) Boone, and we know that their father is dead... same guy? By the way, Locke. I love you, man. You're cool. But a leap of faith does not mean do the safe thing. It means let the clock run out and see what the hell happens. Whatever is meant to happen, will happen. You're the one that's all about that kind of thing; be consistant, wouldja? |
Quote:
I went back to my tape to the scene with Jack in the food locker, and damned if it doesn't look like them. It's a vcr tape, so it's not that clear. Does anyone have it on Tivo? Also, in next week's preview, did anyone notice Jin speaking perfect English? Wtf?? |
Thought this was kinda neat:
http://static.flickr.com/24/47743274_9f47113551.jpg?v=0 check the latitude and longitude coordinates... |
damn, that really makes ya think that these writers thought of EVERYTHING!!! very cool....

The line is from Sydney to L.A., the assumed intended flight path for 815. The circle is what I've named Obsession Isle. This is how far off-course, perpendicularly, the island would be from the intended path: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...offcourse1.jpgThis puts the island about 186 miles off-course. A thousand miles from the supposed island, intersecting with the flight path would be either http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...offcourse2.jpg or http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...offcourse3.jpg... and they're supposed to be a thousand miles off-course. |
That assumes that the flight path between Sydney and Los Angeles is a straight one.
|
I say that there are more stations on the island.
In the "Orientation" film they mentioned zoological experiments which explains the shark and the polar bears. Tests were being run on the island but somehow something got messed up in the process. Which caused the Scientists to go a bit looney. The Scientists then became "The Others". The reason they are after Walt? ESP. They know he has some sort of gift so they want more experiments to be done. Now some of you may be asking....how did they know Walt was coming and how do they know about his "gift". Not sure but look at this.... http://thetailsection.com/images/dharma-1.jpg. Looks a bit like the Dharma logo doesn't it? Sun's father is connected somehow to the Hanso corporation. Jin knows more than he is leading on to. That is why he is "being punished" or whatever he kept saying to Sun in season 1. And hell...dude speaks english next episode according to the preview. if you do a google search for "Hanso" it will pull up a website. mess around in there and you will probably get some more hints or it will spawn more theories. Also, the others didn't throw michael, sawyer, and jin in the pit...those were the tail end survivors. they are just as confused as everyone else on the island. Anyone remember what the firm was that Walt's mother worked for? I wonder if they are tied into this somehow and thats how they knew about Walt. I know this post is all over the place, but im just typing as i am thinking. |

I had a premonition about what could happen in Lost... by this seasons end, an all out war with the plane survivors vs. the 'others' with the fate of the geothermal bomb in the balance. Kind of like an Armaggeddon type thing... Good vs. evil.
I know, I know. It's wacky. But so is this show. Just one question... could they not have shown more skin on Kate in the shower???? Come on!!! |
I say Sawyer and "the Michelle Rodriguez" character are going to get it on before too long.
There is no question that the creators of the show created the Hanso website. They have a few different websites out there with wierd additional information. They are quite clever at adding additional information to the show... |
Remind me why they were looking under the bunker. Were they looking for the magnetic source? or just being nosy?
