Just what I was thinking, fresnelly! I think this is one of the first episodes of Lost that I"ve actually been disappointed with. I really and truly hope that last night's episode isn't going to be the pattern for the rest of the season. To me it's a sign that they're already in trouble continuing the plot. They don't want to give away too much too soon, and they've got precious little to spread out... Ridiculous that they kept replaying the hatch scenes. Who cares that Kate ate a chocolate bar? The Sawyer/shark/raft scenes were ridiculous... You could almost hear the directors saying "kill more time" And that they miraculously drifted right back to shore of their island... if they could find it twice, why couldnt a search and rescue team???

Is it me or did they replay Mike's flashbacks from last season? I got a deja vu feeling about those... The hatch scene was "interesting" having it end the same place last week did, I was pissed that they didn't at least go a little further with that...

I had watched the first season's 'cliffhanger' a couple weeks back and I could not stop nitpicking. Perfectly coifed hair on some, the others looking like coal miners(mostly the men). Blowing up the one character with a stick of dynamite, but the others a couple of feet away did nothing more than avert their eyes and came away unscathed? Then a few sticks can blow up a hatch door, but standing back just a few feet is ok. The fat kid starts out chasing the flight with two bags, but gets on with one....
But decided to give it a second chance and watched it last night. Ugh...there's an hour I'll never get back. And this was voted "Best Drama"???

"The fate of the survivors will be revealed"...this was the advertised voice over that aired all week prior to last night's episode. Did i blink too long? what is their fate? Other than them possibly becoming sick (Desmond asked Jack if the other people on the surface became sick).
I was pissed that the episode ended only a mere few minutes, in plot, ahead of where the premiere ended. Okay so kate got a pocket full of candy and sawyer, the blk guy, and the Japanese guy are now back on the island...but they're being chased by some other people... |

Im not disappointed with anything they've done so far. The hatch is a really big deal so they're teasing us with it. Im sure they got plenty of plots. I also had no problems with the raft scenes. And it was the current that brought them back to the island, although im sure there are higher powers at work, what does that have to do with a rescue being able to find them. It was great when the chinese dude came running out of the jungle. Looks like the rafters are going to be imprisoned by the "others". But i think someone might have gotten away, cause they only showed one of the rafters in a cell and he was with someone from the plane crash that never made it to the rest of the group.
Finally, im curious about all the stuff inside the hatch. It seemed like there was a countdown that reset when Locke entered in the cursed numbers. It looked like Desmond left him in charge in the next-week previews. So i guess Desmond took Jack somewhere and Kate is still in the vent. Cant wait till next week. |

I hat ethat there was little if ayn progress made as far as the story goes. What the hell is going on. As pissed as this show makes me I am addicted. I am guessing that the whole punching the number in the Comp is to prevent a self destruct sequince. To make sure if anybody dies then the whole facility will be destroyed. As long as there is somebody alive to ppunch in the code it will still be left standing. Just my opinion though. I loved the down the shirt view of Kate in the Ducting.

He speaks Korean. He is from Korea. His name is Korean. He's played by a Korean-American (who even looks Korean). Jin is Korean.
Did anyone make out the name of the company that has Desmond down in the hole? And did anyone notice that the logo incorporates symbols from the i-ching?

As far as the first 2 episodes ending at the same point, I rather liked it, it filled in what was happening timewise. I thought they took a 2 hr season premiere and broke it into 2 separate eppys. As far as the fate of the survivors being revealed, I took that to mean that those on the raft were unaccounted for in the opening episode... now we know.. well, we don't know about Walt, come to think of it.

The hexagram "thingies" are symbols from the i-ching... They carry meaning. I just don't have a clue how to read them.

I caught the company's name (Dharma), but I sure didn't see that on the shark...
Good eye, wondash. I was kind of disappointed by this episode. Not because it just rehashed the previous show, but because as much as I like Sawyer and Mike, they a show do not make. I kept waiting for them to cut back to the bunker despite the fact that I already knew how it turned out.

I'd have definately pressed it, I'd hate to have lasted that long on the island, just to die because you didn't press the button. But who knows, Jack could have been right.

Let’s say for the sake of argument that the button does prevent some sort of self-destruct sequence. Why would anyone design a system that requires a reset every 108 minutes? With a staff of two, you have two choices, shifts or alternate. With shifts, you risk the man on duty falling asleep. With alternation, neither person gets a full night sleep. Jack’s explanation makes more sense; it’s just an experiment to f with their minds.

Watching the film it seems to suggest that there are probably two other "stations" on the island. Swan station is just one of them.
It looks like the "others" that have Mike, Sawyer and Jin are survivors from the tail section of the plane. They probably think M,S and J are The Others...

Just another disappointing show, in my opinion.
You never tell the 'new guy' the plan. Maybe I've watched too many spy movies or maybe it's the intense parnoia kicking, but if someone is thrown into your prison with no explanation....they're a spy! And what the hell is wrong with Jack? I used to like this guy. Now every other shot is him doing 'crazy' eyes, waving a gun and propagating quasi-nihilist philosophy....or crying, for what reason, I don't understand. I wouldn't have pushed the button either. Seems kind of funny that 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 = 108. Seems a little too neat. Not to mention, no replacements, no way to contact those in charge and no redundancy in case of a serious screw-up. I mean, what if Desmond and his buddy ate some bad food? What if they both passed out from some rare strain of some long forgotten Pacific influenza? Not to mention the idea of 5 (I thought there were 5...didn't the video say 3 of 5?) other installations, which I assume are on the island with 5 other 'Desmonds' keeping the end of the world at bay is a bit disturbing, to say the least. Speaking of Desmond...I kind of like him. I especially like the way he adds 'brother' to the end of his sentences. I thought that kind of went out with the Hulkamania, but Desmond manages to pull it off....brother. And I got a kick out of the film, brother. Ah, I guess it isn't for me....

I think Jack is still reeling from the bit of information that Sawyer dropped on him only a few hours earlier... that Sawyer had met his Dad in a bar and his Dad had appologized...
This is all tied up with Jack's wife and the fact that he couldn't save her. I bet it turns out that his Dad, tried some operation on her and in the end it killed her. Add to this the fact that Desmond just showed up out of nowhere... All of these coincidences would drive a rational mind like Jack's to distraction.

Anyone else notice that during the training video it skips over just as the guys says "And whatever you do, don't..."? I thought that was classic Lost...always leaving pieces out here and there. And I, for one, wouldn't have pressed the button.

From watching that film i don't think there are other installations in the island just that one was done there because that portion of the island had a strong magnetic force they were studying.
However from everything else on the video and what the Dharma group was doing, I think it sounds like a psychology study about getting people to do something just because I mean someone has been putting in those numbers since the early 80's every 108 minutes at that installation on faith alone that something bad would happen if they didn't with no question of what that is. Maybe they can further explore the compound to see what's what. |

After watching Wednesday nights episode, I think I was a little disappointed. I think I liked the mystery of the hatch more than the explanation of it. It seems they've had to work to hard to try to make everything make sense. The writers are really straining to keep the storyline interesting and yet credible. I like what could be happening with the "others", and all that, but the hatch story is starting to lose me. Like, when Sayid and the others come down the hatch for the first time they don't spend any time showing the cast aways just looking at the whole place. If it were me and I were stranded on an island for 40 days and I found this super cool underground science lab, I'd be pretty blown away by it. I'd be exploring it.
And I don't like that the Desmond guy just leaves out of nowhere. Yeah right. It's like a play script. Desmond is a source of information. He enters the scene, gives a few teases, then exit stage left, perhaps never to be heard from again, except the odd time to give a little more info. DESMOND would have known where the panel was to turn the power back on again! He lived there for crap sakes!!! Lastly... The French Woman, remember her? Who wants to bet that the girl that gets dropped into the pit with Sawyer and the others turns out to be the French womans daughter???

To the people that are disappointed with the hatch, what would have made you happy? What would you have done differently that would have made it more interesting or compelling?

Good question. I don't know. I guess I just liked not knowing for sure. I liked the open endedness of it. I suppose that no matter what the hatch might have been it would be hard to make everyone happy with what it was. We'll just see how the story unfolds...

That being said, a marathon of this stuff can be damaging. I went to Utah on business earlier this week and wondered around a company I do a lot of business with for two days. Talked to various people and as I passed through different rooms, I scribbled the numbers on EVERY WHITEBOARD IN THE PLACE. In fact I was waiting to meet with one of their programmers to give him some instructions and I piled up the change on his desk in 6 little stacks. Guess how much money was in each stack? They shifted gears is the answer to what some of you are liking or not liking about these new episodes. I don't really see the need for more people since we don't even know the 46 we have (what is it about me and shows that count down the number of surviving people...). I think the thing is that we have to get used to some new threads. While most shows arguably had one thread (and maybe a couple subthreads that may have been related) there are at least two distinct threads emerging if not three that we have to follow. Sure they will converge again, but we are in for a few weeks of this I suspect. 1 - The Company (Hatchdudes inc.) 2 - The Others 3 - Survival / interpersonal communication of the OG cast not with the others

Here are some theories of mine. I'm not tied to these, please destroy them if you can... because they're infecting my brain.
The man who apparently financed the project according to the video: a younger Locke's father? The woman in the photo with Desmond: Jack's wife? I don't understand how that could work... but that's what theories are for The shark in the water: had the symbol on it, we know that. But the symbol is slightly different. There's no swan on it, just a straight line with a seeming bulge in it. What that means, I dunno. But there it is. The book that there's a closeup of is titled "The Third Policeman." A search on Amazon turns this up. (Interestingly enough, the third result in that search was the Girls Gone Wild: Extreme DVD...) The driver of the SUV that hit the woman that will become Jack's wife had a time of death of 8:15. His last name was Rutherford, same as Shannon and (late) Boone, and we know that their father is dead... same guy? By the way, Locke. I love you, man. You're cool. But a leap of faith does not mean do the safe thing. It means let the clock run out and see what the hell happens. Whatever is meant to happen, will happen. You're the one that's all about that kind of thing; be consistant, wouldja? Last edited by TexanAvenger; 10-08-2005 at 12:11 PM.. |
