In all the commercials showing what's happening on tonight's episode, I just assumed that all that torture stuff happening to Sayid was a flashback. I don't know if I'm buying the idea of someone else living on the Island before they got there. There's enough going on without that suspension of disbelief...

Coash is a week late with his comment...

I only saw half of last nights episode, but I got the gist (is that how you spell it? Gist? Gyst? Jist? Gizzt?) of it. I suspected I might find holes with the 'crazy survivor who captures Sayid' and I did. She's so desperate for someone to hold and touch, as she said, that she wouldn't shoot him, but she would let him go, and she wouldn't go with him?? Come on. A little hard to swallow. I did like the golf game at the end though.

L.A. Kief 11-19-2004 12:31 PM

Is Alex still alive? I don't think we've seen any 16 year old boys on the beach yet. Thought for sure Sayid was dead, especially when he said he forgave himself for allowing that girl to die. That just might blow a hole in the purgatory theory. Guess there is more than one bear on the island as well.

Beautiful episode.
I really enjoyed Sayid's backstory.
(At least the part they showed us.)

Did you catch where Danielle said that the creature is no 'monster', or somethin' like that?
Her story was kinda confusing, but it seems to me that her and her party had something to do with creating the 'monster'.
(I need to go back and rewatch the episode to clarify a few things)

Maybe it's Alex.

What do you guys think?

Well, like Cynthetic said, Delenn was an alien character on Babylon 5, (which was the last of Earth's huge surviving space stations), a sci-fi show on a few years ago.
It had a pretty huge following, and she was a favorite character of a lot of viewers.

Also, I don't think she whacked Sayid; remember, it took him 2 days to hike to get to her. He was probably only an hour out of camp at most when he was hit in the head.

I'm pretty sure she said she was the one who hit him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think she was the one who knocked him out.

I'm over on the TiVo boards as well, which has incredible analysis of each episode. Her discussion was pretty vague, she might have been talking about the torture. And, she didn't know anything about the plane crash. Furthermore, when she captured him near her base, she tied him up to question him. Why would she just leave him in the field after knocking him out?

tooblekane 11-22-2004 12:47 PM

i actually hadn't really thought about if it was her that hit him or not .. i kind of assumed it was. but it doesn't make a lot of sense considering her apparent distance and the fact that she just left him there.

mrklixx 12-02-2004 08:10 AM

Not trying to bring this thread to the neanderthal level, but just watching last nights episode, I was again struck by the plethora of gorgeous women in the cast, and not a plastic boobie among 'em (WooHoo! ) So I'll pose the "Who's the hottest" question. (Now don't be greedy, and just choose one, because the obvious answer is an orgiastic five-way :D)

http://a.abc.com/primetime/lost/imag.../bio_Grace.jpg

Shannon

http://a.abc.com/primetime/lost/imag.../bio_Lilly.jpg

Kate

http://a.abc.com/primetime/lost/imag...bio_jinKim.jpg

Sun

http://a.abc.com/primetime/lost/imag.../bio_Ravin.jpg

Claire (non-pregnant-unless that's your thing ;) )

I'm gonna go with Kate. Aside from her stunning physical attributes, I think her character has a great balance of strength and vulnerability.

Your choice?

(P. S. In the interest of equality, ladies feel free to jump in with your "hottest guy" vote, but since there are twice as many guys, I didn't feel like posting all of their pics :) )

crossova 12-02-2004 10:41 AM

I'd pick Claire...but after/before the baby.
Now back to last night (12/1/04) episode. Spoiler: So there is a person w/n their camp that isn't actually from the crashed plane....i think he has supernatural powers, thats the only way i could explain how he took Merry and Claire at once.
I may have missed part of an episode or too but what is the Asian lady's plan to get rid of her husband...didn't she ask the black guy for help? And is it just me or does it seem like Locke doesn't want to leave the island...he's happy he is walking again and he doesnt want to risk losing that ability.

I think I'll go with Sun. She's just beutiful.

Oh yeah, and Lock lived most of his life in Tustin, CA -- that's where I'm from!! :)

Spoiler: As far as the guy that was not on the plane, maybe he had a gun and made them walk. Or knocked out the guy, carried him, and made Claire walk. I guess I just don't think it's supernatural powers.

Averett 12-02-2004 04:28 PM

Ok, Storm, it shows Jack and Kate searching for Claire and Charlie, then it switches to Sayid reclining in the cave, when in comes Sawyer, who says with a smirk, "Well, well, well."
Sayid sits up real fast and says, "What do you want?"
It cuts back to Sawyer, who grins and shows he's holding a straight razor.

After that, it cuts to Jack and Kate making their way through the jungle in the rain, they hear Claire screaming, they start running, then it cuts to Jack tumbling down a short hill/cliff, and the guy, Ethan Rom/Alex, looms over Jack's prone body, Alex then presses his foot down hard on Jack's chest and threatens, "If you do not stop following me, I will kill one of them!"

That's it. :)

A most excellent offering by the writers.

So guys... I just found this thread - Lost is the best show on TV right now. I haven't actually tried to watch a show every time it was on since Seinfeld, and that is my favorite show of all time.

Get this... (spoiler)
<span style="background-color:White;color:White;">So, the other guy, his name is Ethan Rom. That is an anagram for "other man". That kind of blew me away :)</span>

At first looks I would say Claire is the hottest. But as far as the whole character goes, Kate is definately the hottest. She knows how to handle herself.

warrrreagl 12-03-2004 06:26 AM

Kate seems to be always sweating a lot, so doesn't that mean she's hotter than the others? Maybe she stays out in the sun more often, or works harder, thereby raising her body temperature. Isn't that what you're asking?

That was my first thought too, but then I thought I remembered something that Danielle had said to Sayid that implied that her son was born on the island. And since she's been there for 16 years, "Ethan" sure is a whole lot older than 16.

Also....flip this..... Danielle had a son born on the island..... And there is a baby about to be born to a woman in the latest group of stranded people. I'm seeing a Matrix-like constant loop of events thingy developing here..... maybe? anyone? Could Claire be the next Danielle?

Discuss.

Xell101 12-03-2004 12:58 PM

This show has got one hell of a hook, and it's well made. Just after is gets you knowing the characters and giving a rats ass about the bulk of em' they lay this mighty story curve down upon and keep the characters introduction episodes rolling as the hook gets bigger and bigger. I'm not sure I want to know waht they'll do for an interseason cliff hanger. Great googly boogly, this show is good.

Daoust 12-03-2004 01:37 PM

I love that the guy Ethan said he was from Ontario. In the screenwriters mind they're thinking "we'll make him say he's from somewhere where no body knows anything...CANADA!!!"

darens42 12-03-2004 08:57 PM

how about that psychic guy? that part creeped me out -

why do you think it is so important for her to raise the baby ALONE ?

don't forget: the message was playing for 16 years. they could've been on the island for a long time before that, had a kid, and then whatever happened came about and they had to launch the signal.

also, i'd like to note that i knew ethan was alex from the second they introduced him :p

kate is the hottest, she's got the whole package. and i prefer darker hair, so thats just me.

now here's a question for you: whats up with locke? the black/white stone symbolism thats coming out the wazzo (the dead bodies, the eyes in the dream, the board), how this island is exactly what he's always wanted, the naming convention that was obviously has purpose (locke and rousseau)? think he will turn/has turned to the dark side?

Seething 12-08-2004 07:00 PM

I had a couple of "Holy shit" moments during tonight's show. First being that they used Jack's story line at home again. He's already had an episode devoted to why he was on the plane, and it surprised me they'd give him more back story while other characters haven't had the chance.

The 2nd moment was during the "charlie part". I could think of nothing but, "Holy shit, no they aren't gonna let that happen". Of course they didn't, but I'll admit they had me convinced for a second there. It's great to see a show that's remained this entertaining, and not some show that I lose interest in because the writers gave up after an interesting premise.

mrklixx 12-08-2004 07:04 PM

Now I know why I wait for all of the cliff hanger series (24, alias, etc) to come out on DVD before I watch them! @#$%! no new episode next week!

I've given up trying to guess the direction of the show. I originally thought it was that they all died in the crash and this was some kind of purgatory, but now I'm leaning more toward a "St. Elswhere"/"This is all a dream" deal.

noodles 12-09-2004 03:01 AM

underground tunnels, possibly underground city
i get the feeling locke is somehow connected to them

Daoust 12-09-2004 04:24 AM

What a great show!
Now I need some clarification. I think they said that that show was either the seaon finale or "the last new show this year". I assume the latter is correct, right? I just couldn't imagine that last night's show was it.
I don't think it's an underground city. It might be a hiding place or an old plane wreck.
Either way, it's a wicked show.

Averett 12-09-2004 05:13 AM

Yeah, just the last show for this year.

The Charlie thing.... God, that was SO well done. When they showed him hanging from the tree I gasped. I knew he wasn't going to die, but the whole time I'm sitting there saying "NoNoNoNo they can't do this, he can't die, COME ON CHARLIE!" They had me, damnit. When Kate came over and told Jack it was over, well let the waterworks begin.

This is such a fucking good show.

The interaction between Hurley and Walt was so cute. More Hurley! More Walt!

gump 12-09-2004 07:35 AM

While watching last night's episode, my wife turned to me and said, "This is getting too scary." I smiled and nodded, but the truth was that I had been scared shitless for about half an hour before that. This show IS getting scary...

When Locke threw the flashlight, I though he was setting that guy up so that he could hit him over the head and then go join "them." The writers do a great job of making you think Locke is evil and then showing you that he's still good (and viserversa).

Fremen 12-09-2004 03:49 PM

Fantastic episode!

The interaction between Walt and Hurley while playing Backgammon was kinda curious.
I get the feeling Walt has some kind of powers or extraordinary good luck going for him.
(except perhaps when it comes to planes) ;)

I wonder if that's what the writers were going for?

aurigus 12-10-2004 05:42 AM

I can't believe I am gossiping about a show... :)

I finally watched it last night. My main question is, why does Ethan or the "others" want a pregnant lady?

noodles 12-10-2004 08:42 AM

thats just one of many more
hopefully that will get answered sooner or later
so keep watching and maybe you'll find out, we don't know either.

darens42 12-10-2004 10:51 PM

i kinda felt that charlie was gonna pull through after having seen jack lose the patient & all the fighting he did to try to revive her to no avail... I just knew he would keep going after kate told him to stop.

to me it seemed like they set up the show to focus on hurley's past but then gave me the twist when they went back to jack

this show could last 5 seasons just telling the past stories & all the related twists ( I wanna know more about kate)

i haven't given much thought to walt - i will have to incorporate him into the bigger picture... if locke can have extraordinary things happen to him - then why not anyone else?

what are your thoughts on charlie not able to remember anything... except that '...thats what THEY want..."

Itachi 12-13-2004 04:40 PM

I wonder what that metal object that Locke and the other guy were digging up. Is it a part of a underground base or a space craft. But yea I want to know more about hurley too.

P.S. They had to make us wait for two weeks, damn bastard.

gump 01-04-2005 07:26 AM

new episode tomorrow night who's going to watch? i read this off excite about it...

Why is that? America usually show an episode (of any given serie) every week right?

Yea, but it's typical for shows to go on hiatus for a couple weeks around the holidays. Plus they show repeats every once in a while. So we see a whole season (20+ episodes) from September-ish to May-ish.

yeah I figured it was because of the seasons but I thought I'd ask anyway to hear if the delay was caused by something else. Your network stations have never delayed some of the episodes (of any given show) on purpose in order to gain more audience, raise the suspence etc have they?

I'm pretty sure they plan the season out with ideas like that in mind. They probably try to figure out the best scheme of showing new episodes vs. showing repeats is. But under most circumstances, a show that's at least moderately popular won't be shuffled around at a moment's notice, if that's what you mean.

Is it too soon to talk about tonight's episode? I'll try to be somewhat vague :). Well, I was kinda disappointed. Not much happened, really. Kate's back-story was fun, although what I was hoping to be the big revelation turned out to be the big let down, I felt. I guess they'll fully explain what that trinket is later on. But I wanted to know more after sitting through the whole episode... oh well, at least the promo for next week looked exciting.

Fremen 01-05-2005 10:05 PM

I'll just comment on this for now...Evangeline Lilly can kick some ass!
I could certainly buy her as an action star if she wanted to go that route.

Averett 01-06-2005 08:04 AM

As far as I'm concerned, we can talk about anything after the show is over on the East coast. People in other areas should realize that we've watched it and might talk about it. Just like the times when I've recorded it, I have to stay away from the thread until I watch it ;)

I liked last nights show. The Kate story was pretty predictible. As soon as she was in the bank, I knew there would be a robbery and she would be in on it. Didn't know she was gonna shot folks though... And she said "The man I killed." So she at least killed one man, possibly all 3 involved with the robbery. The trinket is interesting, I'm sure we'll learn more about that.

The dead folks underwater.... creepy!

Love connection between Siaid and Shannon?

Locke bashing Boone upside the head? Awesome!

I love this show..

I took it that the airplane was a previous man's uh.. toy?... and that Kate just used the other three guys to get in and get it. They better explain that thing further. I was really disappointed that they sort of just dismissed what happened in the last new episode and pursued another thread. I guess I shouldn't be suprised though based on past episodes. :)

I really didn't like the little plane toy, I just don't get the value in it.

zensheep 01-06-2005 11:04 AM

I was also a little dissapointed in last nights episode, given that after making us wait two weeks they didn't mention anything from the last episode :p Other than that I enjoyed it. I also saw possible beginnings of some relationships between a couple of the major characters. Maybe Kate has some kind of a bad-boy syndrome and thats whats fueling her interactions with Sawyer

Radioguy mentioned Kate swimming in the pond... A highlight for SURE!

I also wished they had tied up the loose ends from the last new show of 04 but looking at the previews it appears more is uncovered including the Locke busting up Boone, and I guess Sayid gets a like-on for the female Boone. T'is a wicked show. T'is.

Averett 01-10-2005 10:04 AM

Brilliant move to not tie up loose ends. We're still talking about the stuff from 2 episodes ago, aren't we? ;)

Actually, the safety deposit box that Kate got the airplane from was 815. The same as the flight number of the crashed plane.

Dun dun DUN!!!

I didn't notice it either ;) I read the recaps on www.televisionwithoutpity.com, the recaper pointed it out.

I wish I were that observant!

noodles 01-11-2005 10:04 PM

i noticed it too. the writers are smart, they do a good job of carefully crafting this script.

i'm sure there's a reason for the loose end, as there seems to always be a loose end somewhere in an episode. indeed, it seemed to fray the loose end even more when locke and boone obviously found something last ep but told none and are sneaking around doing crap.

L.A. Kief 01-12-2005 03:54 PM

I hope when they release this on DVD, they mention all the subtle little clues and what nots

Averett 01-12-2005 06:04 PM

Okay.

So that pissed me off.

The whole thing with Boone. I kept thinking it had to have been a dream. But why? I hate Locke. He's fuckin looney toons.

Boone and Shannon just step-siblings? yawn, big shocker there.

I love Hurley. He's awesome.

Next week? The polar bear again?

I give this episode a solid D. Grr.

Lockjaw 01-12-2005 06:16 PM

I thought it was great but certainly WTF material.

I'm going to have a stroke trying to figure out where this show is going. Did Locke enduce the halucination or did the beasty do it? I mean is it like a karma beast of some kind that makes you see only what you think you are going to see?
I keep wanting to think Locke is good but man too much crazy crap is surrounding him.
Knowing just the right thing to help people get over their hang ups. Giving what's his face a borked compass. The plane door he won't show to anybody.

And then that old black lady is starting to adopt a mystic hoodoo kind of vibe as well with the episode last week.

What the hell is going on here?!!!

ergdork 01-12-2005 07:52 PM

I can't figure out what is going to happen with this show - there are so many big questions hanging out there - how the hell can the show be in any way resolved in a reasonable way at the end of the season.

Usually shows leave a single big cliff hanger, frustrating as it is, but not the 100 this show seems to be setting up for. I mean consider the number of unfinished stories out there. But at the same time it seems like any serious resolution would pretty much require the show to take a whole new direction!

Any one know anything/have any suspicions?

Daoust 01-13-2005 06:19 AM

I had a bit of WTF-itis at the end of last night's episode also. Feeling a bit ripped off about the hallucination scene, but since the beginning of Lost I've accepted that I'm going to have to suspend my disbelief to really like this show. Did anyone else feel kind of weird watching Boone and his half sister going at it? Even though they're just actors it was like 'this feels a little creepy'. I'm not sure how smart this Boone fellow is.

OPEN THE DAMN HATCH ALREADY!
FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF FREAKY ANIMAL IT IS, KILL IT, AND STOP THAT WHOLE STUPID PLOTLINE ALREADY!

KATE, SHANNON AND THE ORIENTAL CHICK - GET NAKED ALREADY !

Averett 01-13-2005 06:21 AM

And FIND CLAIRE! For fuck sake, did they just drop that storyline all together?

Man that episode really got my knickers in a knot.

japhyryder 01-13-2005 07:37 AM

What if Locke has somehow gotten control of the beast, or it is an extention of his consiousness (sp), he almost seemed meditating while Boone and his step-sister (no blood, remember in the police station flashback) were being attacked.

Why haven't they tried digging around the hatch. Maybe there is another with a handle on it.

Got a weird feeling LOST and Alias’ storylines are possibly connected thru the Rumbaldi thing because Rumbaldi had created a mind altering drug and that may be connected to LOST and the island, etc. and that on Alias last night when she was having the party, the song that was playing in the background was Driveshafts, You All Everybody” which is Charlie’s (on LOST) band name and song. Strange!!!

mrklixx 01-13-2005 08:02 AM

I'm seriously beginning to suspect a whole "St. Elsewhere-this is all somebody's dream/coma/autistic/fantasy sequence" vibe.

Or it could be some grand experiment of "lets just put a bunch of crap together that doesn't make any sense, and see how long people watch it"

As for the Alias/Lost connection, Terry O'Quinn was FBI asst director Kendall, who had become part of "Department of Special Research". Hmmmmmmmm

Curiouser and curiouser.

japhyryder 01-13-2005 01:01 PM

I never remembered seeing what happened to him at the end of the season, that would make sense for him to have all of the skills he has

Dingo2879 01-13-2005 01:23 PM

I still can't get over how evil Shannon is... Pretending to be in abusive relationships to lure out her stepbrother save her by paying off the boyfriend... And when she get's screwed over, she used his love for her by sleeping with him so he would put her back on the bankroll... Pure Evil.

japhyryder 01-13-2005 01:32 PM

Yeah Shannon, now that is my type of gal. YEAH.... what a slut

Somebody else (I think it was Grancey) noticed a correlation between Sawyer's childhood letter and a similar letter on yet another ABC show, Desperate Housewives.

Is ABC striving toward some sort of Learning Community environment?

Lockjaw 01-14-2005 08:05 AM

Hmmm continuity amongst three shows? I don't think they could ever pull that off. It'd be interesting but I'm not betting on that. I think all the little ties might be little Easter Eggs but that's about it.

If it the note I'm thinking about, they got that semi resolved on D.H. the husband found out who wrote it.

japhyryder 01-14-2005 09:13 AM

Did anyone notice Sawyer in the Australian Police station?

Yup ;) That'll be interesting when it comes up again.

JStrider 01-14-2005 01:19 PM

i saw sawyer in the police station...

i really like locke after his episode... i mean he was just a bad ass adventurer type guy...
but now he's starting to be less likeable...

and Lockjaw I dont think the compas was borked... something on the island is making a powerfull magnetic field thats throwing off the direction the needle is facing....

Moskie 01-14-2005 04:42 PM

I had this past week's episode recorded and I just finished watching it. But it stopped recording the very end of the last segment.. I saw Boone and Locke talking about how his sister was ok and it was all a hallucination. Was anything important revealed, besides the fact that it was a halluciation? And was that the last scene of the episode?

But I agree that this episode wasn't all that great. Having Boone and Shannon be step-siblings / lovers is extremely contrived. I hate it when TV shows do things like that.... making a big revelation like that, only there's no indications from previous episodes that the writers had this planned. They just did it on a whim to make things dramatic. Oh well, such is TV :)

My guess is that the actress that plays Claire isn't available for the time being... I think they'll get to it once she can come back. At least I hope so.

Yea, I get the same exact impression. Which makes me fear that they're either going to constantly tease us until the *series* finale, or resolve these issues in a way that doesn't really change anything. Either way... meh.

Latch 01-14-2005 11:47 PM

This show is brilliant. I leaves a million questions open, while answering enough to keep most of us happy and wanting more.

I don't think there's any real correlation between shows (maybe 'in' jokes, but I doubt it's going to be a plot twist).

I'm not sure about the creature.. but it's good that Locke helped Boone get over his sister.

I gave this episode an A, besides asking a lot of new questions, there were a few moments where I was saying "holy shit".

This is my favourite show on right now.
