Kinsey

Liam Neeson does an excellent job portraying one of the most important educators in American history, in my opinion. One could argue that society was heading towards a sexual revolution whether Kinsey came onto the stage or not, but one could not argue that once he did, America and the world could never be the same.

Kinseys research was groundbreaking. He truly was a pioneer. This film opened my eyes to a lot of things. I understand that the drama was accentuated for the purposes of film, but nonetheless I felt that the film was very well put together by Condon of Gods and Monsters fame.

The only part I didn't like was John Lithgow's character, as Kinseys father. Especially the scene where Kinsey interviews his father. It felt forced and unnecessary. Otherwise I think this film is great, and I think it's an important film.

Run Lola Run

Who hasn't seen, or at least heard of this film? Very few I suspect. Known for it's orginality and boombastic electronica soundtrack, this film takes you on a journey, or on three separate journeys of Lola's attempt to find 100,000 marks to save her boyfriend from immenent death. Each journey is different. The movie is fast paced, delightfully odd, and interesting to watch.

I suppose if I had seen this movie when it came out I would have higher praise for it. I've heard more about it than almost any other indie movie, and so I knew most of what was going to happen before I had seen it. Nonetheless I can recognise that it's a unique film and original ideas are extremely hard to come by these days...

Throne of Blood

Kurosawa's version of MacBeth. Really very good, although the very end goes on a little long. Lady MacBeth is still the driving force, but she's a lot less prominent of a character all the same, which is odd. Definitely worth watching.

Lord of War

Fantastic. A somewhat true view of the life of an arms dealer right after the end of the cold war. It was actually loosely based on 2 people. Great performance by Nicholas Cage in my opinion.

Talk To Her

I guess Almodovar is a popular film director, and I guess his films are considered very artistic and thought provoking... I guess...

Well, I'm not a film student, although I love watching foreign films, but I didn't find that this film in particular struck any kind of chord with me. I didn't feel sympathetic towards any of the characters, I wasn't swept up by the dialogue or the flow of the plot. I felt weirded out by the flashback of the miniature man who crawls inside the womans vagina (although I got that that is what the guy wanted to do symbolically and physically).
I don't know. Maybe I'm getting older. Maybe I don't have the same eye for exotic, risk taking films anymore. I just didn't buy what this film was selling.

Not full 10 points because I wish it was longer! Oh, this movie has everything, pretty pretty costumes, beautiful sets, lovely music, incredible story and of course Tilda Swinton - le sigh... :love: Also, I can (could) dance the dance they did on the ice banquet. So there.

Kill Bill Vol 2

I've discovered that I like Tarantino films. I've seen this film several times and it is becoming a comfort movie for me. I started watching Jackie Brown the other night, I recorded it so I'll watch it later on. I like how Tarantino films flow and I like the storytelling style. Very entertaining.

Michael Caine was the only person worth watching in the movie. Nicholas Cage is incredibly annoying in this movie and if he yelled "dildo" one more time, I thought I was going to scream.

Mystery, Alaska 6/10

Seen it before. Cute movie, not particularly original, but enjoyable.

I saw a little of A History of Violence, and a little of Munich. I recommend that everyone watch Munich. It starts off at the 1972 Olympic games during the hostage crisis. It's based on a true story. The first half gets a 9/10. Got to dl the other half.

A History of Violence is great too. The story gets better as it gets more violent :thumbsup::thumbsup:

hustle and flow 8.5 out of 10. just got the feeling that terrance howard could have done even more if the script was better. as good as it was.

Watched Waiting for Guffman for the umpteenth time this weekend. Technically it was the last movie I've watched. I give it a 10/10. In my opinion it's even better than Spinal Tap.

I watched Waiting last night. 1/10 I found myself waiting for it to be over. Then I started skipping scenes and fast forwarding. Finally I just turned it off. Don't waste your time. I had friends tell me it was awful and I should have listened.

Jersey Girl - 6/10.

Yes, its a chick flick, but it has Liv Tyler in, and shes foxy (plus i've just got in from training and i needed something easy on the brain). The number of times i wanted to bitch slap ben affleck, i lost count somewhere around the diner scene. Needless to say, Liv made things better, but cheesy bits reigned true, especially at the end.
Ah well, t'was an entertaining romp none-the-less.

I have Jersey Girl on DVD and have watched it a half dozen times. It is without a doubt one of my favorite chick flicks. It comes just short of Where the Heart Is.

Final Destination 3:

It's a typical dead teenager movie, and probably the purest form of the genre ever devised. The formula is strictly followed: A young person has a vision of a disaster, averts the disaster, saving a group of people who are then killed off one by one unless someone intervenes to save them.

The pure part of it comes in the villain. Death is the villain. There's nobody stalking them, they just die in these strange Rube Goldbergesque elaborate deathtraps.

The first, and most intricate, is easily the best as four different innocuous actions add up to a very elaborate death trap. I could feel myself grinning as I followed the series of steps that lead to a couple of very gruesome deaths for a couple of innocent girls, both played by soft porn stars so that they could have elaborate, lingering closeups of the their silicone breasts on several occasions.

It's definitely a strictly "disengage brain" movie, but a lot of fun if you like this sort of thing. Which I do. The mechanics of the better deathtraps appeals to my meticulous nature.

I Am David, heart wrenching, funny, great movie.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, funny with likable characters.

In the Olympic spirit, The Cutting Edge was aired. A quaint romantic comedy from 1992 film about a hockey player turned figure skater's journal to the National Championships. It's nothing to write home about because it is just that spectacular or was it destined to win any awards other than being a nice, feel-good movie with a few classic lines to make you smile.

Unleashed starring Jet Li and Bob Hoskins.... what a terrific movie. It is easily my favourite movie now. Its a little film noir with intense action and drama....such a unique plot too, its really something fresh and not regurgitated martial arts stories. Easily a 10/10. I plan on buying it :) Plus, I completely fell in love with Jet Li in this movie, he was just so adorable! ^_^

As we are all in the restaurant business, we all saw people we've known and some, even ourselves in it. I honestly believe one needs to have been in the industry to get it or care. And yes, to a point, that IS how it is working in them. *smiles*
Amusing film with a narrow appeal.

Really bizarre Thai movie about the legend of Nang Nak. Very common legend in almost any culture about men who go off to war and their wives left behind. But very, very strange. I'm still not sure if I liked it. Heck, I'm not even sure what the title was (the only thing they didn't subtitle). :lol: The scenery was great as was the background music, but it did get a bit annoying after awhile. I'm ashamed to say that their teeth freaked me out and half the time I was paying more attention to the color of their teeth (was it black? was it red? was it brown?) than the story because it was so familiar and I knew what would happen.

5/10... I think.

Fat Pizza.

Hilarious, totally uncouth, pointless and full of ever-so-interesting... um... characters. This was definitely the pick-me-up, laugh-so-hard-the-water-came-out-my-nose idiocy that I needed. David Cockerfield killed me. :lol:

8/10 for this unashamedly non-PC movie.

I usually enjoy Samuel L. Jackson films, but Freedomland has jumped right up to this year's "so far" least favorite for me.

Oliver Twist (The 2005 remake directed by Roman Polanski)-7/10. I thought it was a depressing movie and I felt bad for Oliver throughout the entire story.

Rent-6.5/10 . The movie was okay. The story is outdated and I thought the songs were cheesy. Not a big fan of this musical.

Domino-8/10. I watched this movie with extremely low expectations thanks to all the reviews I have read, but if I thought it was a decent film. I was expecting that kind of camera movement/style from Tony Scott. I mean, if you didn't like Man on Fire because of the style, then you might not like this film. Although, both stories are unrelated, they have the same camera style.

Feardotcom- 1/10. A movie that attempted to be a horror film didn't exactly bring a few scares to the viewer (which was me). The entire story was shit and it didn’t go anywhere.

Maria Full of Grace.

First of all, when the title is grammatically incorrect, it bugs me. Probably would do very well on Lifetime instead of HBO. Story was gritty for awhile, then more predictable and transparent towards the end. The main actress was exceptional, given the material, so I will bump it up to a 7/10.

The Hidden Blade.

A solid effort from Yoji Yamada, not quite as good as The Twilight Samurai, but I very much enjoy his subdued tales of late Tokugawa Japan.

Felicity Huffman was amazing. This film succeeded way beyond my expectations. I am in awe............

Alfie 5/10

A very good film, Jude Law can be great at times, but the ending SUCKED. I was expecting him to learn his lesson and settle down with someone, it was actually quite fun trying to guess whether it would be one of the women or someone else. Then, they cut it all off, and the film goes from being a good romp watchable again for the funny moments, to a pile of crapsack.
They want to make Alfie 2, i need some damned closure!

Animal Mother was this movie's only saving grace. The captain was horribly miscast - obviously Harrison was otherwise occupied.

The Cave 3/10
Not much of a thriller at all. It had the token characters in these type of movies (including the hottie Piper Perabo), but the problem that I faced was that once they had equipped themselves to go searching in the underground caves by donning wetsuits, a couple of the characters blended together; especially with the dark lighting of the area. I wasn't expecting much, and I didn't get much in return: Have no worries if you want to pass by this one.

Transporter 2 4/10

Crap. The first one was weak, but I let it go based on the fight scenes; this one has a moronic plot, warmed over fights, and Kate Nuata will not have to worry about making a second movie after that performance. Now I understand why Jason Statham's in Dungeon Siege. He was so promising in the Guy Ritchie films, too.
