Just got back from Sin City. Damn. 6/5. Absolutely breathtaking film.
I guessed wrong about which scene Tarantino directed, though. Although that scene WAS brilliant. I have to go pick up the graphic novels now--I get the sense that the richness of the comic series' world was only really hinted at in the film. |
i saw sin city also -9/10

Sex and Lucia, el sexo y Lucia
A movie without much of a plot, coupled with hot sex. Turns out I can sit through anything if a beautiful girl is naked. 7/10, without the strip tease, 3/10 |
Kung Fu Hustle
10/10 It was so much more fun than I ever imagined it could be. Steven Chow is hilarious. The predictable parts of the plot worked very well within the larger context of the movie. |
Just watched Saved! last night, I'll give it a 7.5/10, I enjoyed it, lol. Funny movie to me, and I never thought that Mandy Moore could be such a bitch, lol.

9.5/10 Ocean's Twelve
For that type of movie it couldn't be better. It didn't radically alter my outlook on life and humanity but it was vastly entertaining and one of those rare movies worth watching several times. I highly recommend it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0349903/ |
The Amityville Horror 8/10
Not a bad movie, spooked me a little in about 1 or 2 parts, other than that it was a good movie, I want to see the original film to see what its like. |
The last Samurai 9/10
well i didnt want to watch it first but when it was recommended by a lot of people i decided to watch it and it wasnt as "bad" as i thought ;) |
Blade Trinity - 2/10. God, this movie sucked. It was an honest waste of camera film and time. The only redeeming quality of this piece of trash film was Ryan Reynolds in the movie. I really liked his character, he was really funny. But overall, this movie was garbage.

Requiem for a Dream: 9/10
Absolutely loved requiem. the music was perfect, the acting was second to none, and the impact of the event in the movie was tremendous. Ichi the Killer: 3/10 Bored the entire time. the special effects had their high points, along with their low-points. the plot was too simple, but then got kinda convoluted at the end. the character of Ichi was not at all what i expected, and actually annoyed the shit out of me. i've read that it's one of the most disturbing movies ever, but i was not impressed. requiem disturbed me more than ichi, and had a great story accompanied by acting. A Clockwork Orange: N/A i was tired as hell so i ended up falling asleep about 40 minutes into it. i don't know if i can force myself to watch the rest, though. i was waiting for something entertaining or thought-provoking to occur during the first 40 minutes, but, alas, nothing. |
Suspect Zero: 2/10
This movie was boring. There were a couple of high points in it, but not high enough to name. I really like Ben Kingsley as an actor, which is why I rented this movie. He does a good job in it, but the overall picture sucks. |
Hidalgo: 8/10
exciting, classic Hollywood formula. |
Irréversible
9.5/10 Glengarry Glen Ross 9.5/10 eXistenZ 6.5/10 |
The Mask of Zorro
5/10 - they should have made it more romantic, more erotic, and less humorous. |
The Chronicles of Riddick was on HBO tonight...
I didn't see it in the theatre, as I don't go out to the movies too much... Overall I'd give it a 6/10. The only redeeming quality this movie had was the fact that it was pretty. The storyline was so-so and the dialogue....ughh. Not to mention, one of the most ridiculous endings ever filmed. I wonder how in the world they got Judi Dench to be in this movie....I'm guessing...blackmail. |
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 9/10
The jaw-dropping scene of Earth Mark II being built deserves that rating alone. |
^ ditto here.
|
last week:
Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy 10/10 - awesomely funny movie this week: Kingdom of Heaven 9/10 - A few minor qualms, but otherwise a good period movie. |
National Treasure 9/10
Awesome movie. I've always been a fan of Indiana Jones kinda movie (Even though, this wasn't) The fact that there's puzzles and problems to solve all over the movies makes you stay interested to see where the puzzle would lead you to. |
The Ring 2
5/10 It's had the typical scary girl jumping out of the dark which was terrifying. I find the movie creepy, the whole evil child thing is weird. Some parts were total chichés, actually most were. A few parts were pretty good. And now that Samara is locked in the well I can sleep soundly. ;) |
I just got back from Kingdom of Heaven. I'd say 7/10. The filming was good, the acting was fairly good (even Orlando Bloom did a decent job) and the guy who played Saladin did a fantastic job, but it was a little slow and unbelievable in places and kind of made me disgusted even more than I already am at religious fanatics.

Saw House of Wax today... my cel phone went off (I know, I know, it never goes off, but today i forgot to turn it down). About twenty mintes into the movie, all you can hear is "Hell I like you, you can come over to my house and fuck my sister." From Full Metal Jecket. The thing looped twoce before I could find my phone and shut it off... it was funny. Anyway, back to the movie. I was kinda impressed. It had a good, in depth plot. That is a rarity for horror flicks. Plus, the way Paris Hilton gets killed is hilarious.
edit: forgot to rate it. about a 7/10 |
Kung fu Hustle - 8/10 - The action sequences are amazing; the plot was much more substantial than I had assumed, for being an action flick. Some of the scenes were so exaggerated, [which is what the director intended, IMO] it kept the film from having too serious of a tone, which I enjoyed.

The Cooler
7.5/10 |
The Interpreter - 7/10
Could've used more action and a better ending. The movie felt a bit drawn out at times. |
Finally saw Napoleon Dynamite 6/10 Maybe I need to see it twice to really get it...
|
Shawn of the Dead - 8.5 / 10
I just watched this movie on Friday night and it was exactly what I was expecting. A very funny zombie movie. It's not a spoof, it's just a zombie movie that turned out to be downright hilarious at times. It was exactly what I was in the mood to watch. Good flick indeed. |
sin city was fucking awesome!!! for some, it might be too weird but i loved the insane violence and the black and white with a bit of colour. i highly recommend it if you like comic books(graphic novels) or the style of QT. it's the same idea as pulpfiction... 3 or 4 little stories into one big one and they all make sense in the end.
ps: if you thought there was too much violence in kill bill, do not watch this!! i rate is 95% it's good enough that i will buy the DVD. |
Kicking and Screaming was a really funny Will Ferrell movie, especially for one that was given a PG rating. However, I'd assume that many of the jokes would go over the heads of most kids. There was probably enough going on with the team (especially the little Chinese kid) that would probably keep the kids happy. But it was basically all Will Ferrell, which was why I went for it. Excellent for a Will Ferrell movie, dunno how it would stack up as a kid's movie.

Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monster All-Out Attack (2001) - it's been YEARS since i saw a godzilla movie (wouldn't say that i'm a godzilla expert, or even a big fan), but this was playing at a local theater as a midnight movie and with a name like "Giant Monster All-Out Attack", how could i resist? plus, i got to reading some reviews around, and this was getting decent ones. and for good reason, too. this movie was a lot of fun and it makes me think that i should check out more godzilla movies. i'd give it a solid 7/10.

Sin City
i loved how the director gave it a cartoon comic book feel, he pulls it off flawless. great action and story line. 9/10 |
The last movie I watched would be A Beautiful Mind.
Absolutely phenomenal movie, I cry at the end every single damn time. Russel Crowe at his best (with Gladiator coming up a close 2nd) 5/5 without a doubt. |
Saw "Kingdom of Heaven" this weekend. It was a long, long, slow movie - nicely filmed. Orlando was fun to look at and acted welll enough, but he still has a long long way to go to be a "Leading Man". Way too much fighting, although the use of so many medieval weapons was a bit interesting. Hardly saw Liam Neesom - who really is a Leading Man!! This film lacked the spark ( any spark) needed to impress the audience. It's a 2 & 1/2 hour History Lesson that shows how futile religious wars really are. The director/writer made the Muslims seem way more fun & charismatic than the stodgy boring crusaders, which felt a bit too PC for me. Not that Muslims can't be a whole helluva a LOT good time party guys :) - Wish I had saved my $8.75 dollars....and rented Gladiator and some other films instead!

THe LIfe Aquatic with Steve Zissua: abusolutely brilliant. A wonderfully quirky comedy from Wes Anderson. Love the way the melds real life with abstractionism. Funny and intelligent. Thought William Dofoes' part is small, he steals the show. 9/10.

Dogville, 6/10
Not what i was expecting. A one-of-a-kind movie experience. A beautiful stranger (Nicole Kidman) enters the small, close-knit rural town of Dogville under mysterious circumstances. No one knows for sure why she's there or where she comes from. The movie focuses on the relationships that develop between Kidman and the various citizens of Dogville. Quite a movie...somewhat controversial for my taste at the moment. |
The Downfall: Hitler and the End of the Third Reich 9/10
Very well made, very believable, and at the same time chilling and frightening. So much casual violence, people shooting themselves in the head... Seeing Hitler flip between kind old uncle and raving loonie was scary too. |
Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith 10/10
1 word: Great |
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
9/10 Brings a whole new meaning to the OT. |
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
9/10 Very suspenseful. Great political thriller. I wouldn't have thought Angela Lansbury could be so evil. |
"The upside of anger' - 7/10. Very funny movie; but still a chick flick. VERY funny!
