new tv???!!!??
I currently have a 32ince sanyo flatscreen tv. I paid about 450.00 for it about 8 months ago. I bought this tv at walmart, and sanyo said that since they no longer carry the tv i bought there walmart will have to give me store credit. The 32 inch has a 1 year warranty, and it has started flickering on the sideswhile watching tv.
So Here i am with $450.00 to put out for a new tv. Now a different walmart near me has a 42inch plasma tv on sale for 1200 or 1299 i forget. i live with my cousin and i own the dryer i plan on selling it to him for 150.00 what i paid when we got them so that brings me up to 600.00 now i have an old computer ...haha old( its a 2.8ghz celeron with 1 gig of ram, that has been collecting dust. i figiure i can get 300 - 450 for it. but for the sake of it lets say 300 so now the total comes up to 900.00 no i also have a truck that needs some work, but i can probably sell it for 250.00 ( i was offered 200 a few weeks ago) the only thing the truck would be used for is during the winter to get to and from work...... but then again i could just take the long way home when it snows... or figure it out when it becomes winter time. so this brings me up to 1150.00 .... a friend owes me 350-500 dollars for carinsurance which i paid while they were unemployed. the car they drive has my name on the title so they have to pay me the 500 bucks (350 if i am feeling nice when they decide to pay me) the money is really water under the bridge and i dont really care if i get paid back... but this would be great. so if i put the 350.00 twards the tv i would have a grand total of $1500.00 the real questin is is plasma as good as i think it is? and am i a fool for thinking about this so much? if i would purchase this i dont really lose anything of value, and i dont go into debt

you only gave people half an hour to post before complaining they weren't posting?
Sheesh ![]() OK, here's my opinion. Don't buy the plasma. Plasma sucks. It's not as sharp as CRT, and the screens die too easily. My further opinion is you should take it back to walmart and demand your money back. They sold you a defective product. That doesn't mean they get to lock your money down in their bank forever. That means they give you your money back. Then take that money over to Best Buy and get a Toshiba or Mitsubishi HDTV CRT tv. |

well because this is a warrenty issue i cant get a refund, and i am lucky that i dont have to send it back to the manufacturer.
so because of this my choices are limited. i actually was watching the tv there for quite a while and i was amazed. i should look into the warrenty and such. i was thinking about a projection tv but they suck if you are not right infront of it. plus i think i can hook my pc up to this... not sure tho

Agree with shakran about Walmart service, and plasma displays. The next year or two will show mucho improvement in technology and price.
Honestly, my first thought was that Summer is almost here. Even if I only have "best laid plans," of exercising or camping or rafting or hiking... a new TV encourages my failure, and I'm paying for the privilege. -former TV junkie

A good plasma tv will cost much more than $1300, more like $2500 and up. Also learn your lesson don't buy a discount brand tv when you want a quality name-brand tv. Sanyo, GE, Daewoo, Honda are all discount-brand tv's (yes I know honda doesn't make TV's but they make a hell of alot of stuff so it's only a matter of time). The old addage "You get what you pay for applies to everything including TV's." Now go my son and spend your money wisely, OR give it to me and I shall spend it wisely.

As we've mentioned, you should demand your money back. Not instore credit. Make a hell of a lot of noise about it. Call the attorney general. They sold you a defective product. They can't offer you an exchange. They have nothing you want. So their solution of instore credit is unacceptable.
If you don't want to fight that battle for whatever reason, then go spend the 450 on something else from walmart, and go spend your other money on a good tv. |

If you mean rear projection TV, their pic quality is lousy.
If you mean front projection TV, their pic quality can be good, but even a 2,000 lumen one will be too dim during the day if you have windows that admit light. Either put it in a windowless den or expect to also be investing in light cancelling window treatments. Also keep in mind you need some sort of screen for it - either an actual projection screen or special paint on the wall. For plain old every day use, the old style CRT is still the best, hands down. |

please don't take this the wrong way but I think the fact that you don't have the cash available to buy such an expensive device, and would only be able to afford it by selling your possessions, indicates that there's a better use for that money. save it and amass some type of largesse, so that you can move out of your cousin's house and purchase some property on your own.
from the technical standpoint (I'm somewhat of a nerd), plasma tv's are very expensive and not all that impressive. they're a rich man's toy. I suggest replacing your tv with that of a reputable brand name (sony, samsung) in a price range you can readily afford. that is, if you need a tv at all. on the walmart front, i refuse to even visit a walmart. not only are the actual products less than par, so are their business practices. buy a similar tv or an lcd. forget the plasmas
they're right about the tv tho, it can only be so clear. no real advantage. plus the more expensive the tv, ie hdtv, you'd have to pay more to get hd feed. i got a sony 27" for xmas and am really happy with it. only cost 400 bucks too

Yeah plasma's are a joke, I guess the failure rate of when they test them in the factory is extremely high. My roomate bought a HD ready sony projection tv (not sure of the exact model) and the picture quality is good. Also remember you don't need the biggest freaking tv ever made either. My roomate did that with a big screen it sucks since you have to sit back so far.

I know you're locked in with the store credit from Wal-mart (maybe you can save it for other stuff). But is there anywhere else you can buy from besides Wal-Mart? In my past experience they really don’t carry high quality end electronics. Over all they just settle with the cheapest supplier. For them it’s all about the bottom line. Have you tried a retail store like Best Buy?

I think we can stop giving advice at this point.
Pattycakes is determined to by the TV, and he's determined to buy it from Walmart despite the fact that their stuff generally sucks. So sure, go ahead and get the plasma. It's what you really want, and you wouldn't be happy without it, even if you had something of higher quality, because it wouldn't be a plasma. |

lol been busy... didnt get to reply.
I am locked ino store credit but i plan on buying witht he store credit 4 100 ( or lower not in to doing math right now ) store credit gift cards then selling them on ebay for 90 or so including shipping i did however decide that i was going to try to build my own hdtv projector. I dont know anyone who has tried it, and i am willing to take the time to find out if it really works. NO i am NOT talking about a lens and a tv. I will be construcing it out of wood, and be using a 33,000 luminem lamp. It consists of so uv galss and such and a xga flatscreen monitor. i might be able tpo use a lens to focus it on the wall... i am not quite sure yet, havent done tooooo much reading. I have done alot but not enough. right now i am setteling for a nice old 27inch tv. and its a step down, but its "okay" for 4 player xbox. now if i get this projector to work like it is supposed to in theorywe will each have a 32 inch or so screen. You were right about their electronics selection, being sucky i also plan on letting everyone know how my project went, and keeping them upto date. as soon as i get done with my garden tractor(lawnmower) overhauling (25 or so year old wheelhorse) i am going to hop right on this one. not that the wheel horse has to do with electronics..... oh i am so tired

Buy your new TV at TWEETER (Formerly HOME ENTERTAINMENT). They have the best ones
and will work longer. CompUSA is another good store that will stand behind your purchase. Best TV I ever had is the MITSUBISI 26 " I have now. Stay away from JVC and SHARP. Buy a good SURGE PROTECTOR when you buy the TV. It will save your TV from getting ZAPPED by a surge in the line . I had a $700. TV that was not protected and it was destroyed by a surge about a year after I had the TV. Last edited by RonRyan85; 06-22-2005 at 06:51 PM.. |

if you're planning on get a larger television, go with the lcd projection models. i favor the picture over nearly every plasma/lcd flat display and you'll get a much bigger screen for your dollar.
