Yahoo! password recovery
you could say i'm one of those paranoid people who give as little information as they can when signing up for stuff on the internet. if you look at my profile, you can see this as well.
and as a chinese, born to first generation chinese immigrants, who are very superstitious, i'm very cautious about handing out my real date of birth and place of birth. we were taught this so that no one can make a voodoo doll of us. i don't know, don't ask how. with that said, i have a file and some mail i need to get from my yahoo! account which i have lost the password to. the very first time i ever change my password and i go and forget it. well, i tried to 'forgot password' link, and it asks for a birthdate. i don't remember what i put. i was going to mail yahoo!, but they wouldn't be able to verify any of the information as none of it is correct -- random information about me at the time of my signing up. so is there any way i can recover this lost password without the help of hypnotizing my self and retracing my every thought and footstep to about 1.5 weeks ago. come to think of it, i should check mail more often, maybe then i'll remember it. is there any way? thanks in advance

The long and the short answer are both no unfortuantly.
Yahoo is locked down in ways MS only dreams about and i've got a pretty good idea as the response from yahoo if you pass your story on to them. The most likley scenario is they'll assume your trying to look in your girlfreind/wife/manservent 's email and trust me, they get so many of those emails that the few legit emails lost in that flood of BS are going to get a beyond skeptical eye. Just take it as a loss and learn. Superstition is good, but never take it to far.

thanks. and i like how you handled that. you trusted me and gave me an honest answer while giving your doubt to the legitimacy of my story a twist by warning me what yahoo! would say. well done and courteous too might i add. thanks again, for the efforts, and for giving me the benefit of the doubt.

slant eyes, like arch 13 I don't think there any possibility of cooperation from Yahoo. I have been a Yahoo user for years, and have had the same thing happen...no luck in recovering. But look at it this way, if it were easy, then someone could get your information...
Heres what I do to avoid the problem in the future. First I have one good, valid email address, with all the correct information about me on the profile. I never, repeat, never use that address for anything except storing information. I never mail from it, or search with it' the only mail it gets is from me, or the ocassional thing from Yahoo, which can't be prevented as far as I know. I'm like you on giving out personal information, but sometimes you just gotta do it. Then for my email, searches, links, etc, I use another address that has none of my actual information. Wrong age, address, intrests, birthday, secret clue...the whole bit. I store that info on the real one that I don't use, and can always go back and find anything about the 2nd one that I need. Even at that, I don't show the password for the 2nd, or 3rd one...just a clue that I can't possibly fail to understand should I need to retrive it. |

Lately I've gotten into the habit of writing all of my passwords down on a slip of paper I keep in my wallet. My walet NEVER leaves my person for more than a few minutes while I'm in the shower, and I don't make it well known that I keep my passwords in there. Usually I can remember them, but if I ever need it, its there.
