well it is kinda dodgy since that network doesn't have a lot of security(I heard) and because it is the largest so that is mainly what the RIAA is targeting atm.
some alts. are eDonkey/eMule Direct Connect Bitorrent (just use Google to download them)

depends on what you are looking for, but i heard that if you are looking for copywrited music and movies there are a couple of places you can get the files you need..
like Best Buy, HMV, Circuit City, WalMart, Tower Records, Virgin Megastore.. well.. you see where im going with this I hear they are much faster than Kazaa and you dont have to worry about mislabeled files or anything like that.. Good Luck! |

I've never had good luck with Direct Connect, but I've successfully used eDonkey.
Of course when they kill off all the P2P sharers, you can always go back to the old school where it all started,..... IRC. Hehe...

"You could always buy your CDs, or use iTunes etc, and stop stealing..."
You can use p2p programs for things other then downloading copyrighted music. Also, if I'm understanding the latest news - it's not stealing if he's in Canada.

The point here is that is it not yours if you downloaded a copy. And it is NOT yours to make a digital copy to share. That is illegal. What is the problem people have with this concept? Sharing MP3's that are ripped from CDs is illegal. It is theft. It is stealing. Now if you can accept that and have no ethical qualms about being a thief, then go ahead. But don't get all prissy and defensive when it is pointed out. This kind of childish behaviour annoys me. Soon someone will start squealing how "if CDs were cheaper then we wouldn't have to download MP3s.." or some such nonesense. Hell, I can't afford a BMW, but I'm not going to go out and steal one. Just because you don't like a law does not mean you are above it. If you are a thief at least admit it. Mr Mephisto Last edited by Mephisto2; 08-26-2003 at 07:31 PM.. |

When i was a teen we used to make copies of a bands tapes and give them to a friend to listen to. sometimes there would be even 3 or 4 bands to a single tape. at least half of the bands that i currently listen to i started liking by listening to a free tape. then i went a bought the groups, tapes, records, i went to concerts bought tshirst, posters, videos etc... i must have spent over 500$ just on metallica alone. all because someone gave me a tape with some songs from kill em all. it's called building a fan base. they should thank all the file sharers. the ones they should really be going after are the pirates who continue to charge 15 for a CD.

I agree with Mesphisto to a certain extent but sharing MP3's can be a good thing, produces publicity, however when this opportunity falls into the wrong hands ie those who have no intention of spending money beyong their internet connection and blank CD's it becomes a terrible thing.
I've downloaded quite a few MP3's and Movies in my time but most of these illegal downloads have built my collection of more than 1000 CD's and more than 300 DVD's and a little less than 100 VHS tapes, and I have spent god knows how many thousands of dollars on merchandise. I'm a great example of fil-sharing gone right. A growing majority of people however abuse this priviledge. The chances are no-one will read my post so I'll take this time to say something no-one will read BIGIDA BOOGADA BEE BEE BOM LOMNODON!! There, I'm done. |

I think the RIAA should fuck themselves. They are the rich trying to get richer by going after college students. I mean the real issue that caused this mess isn't pirating at all. It's the fact that CD prices never went down (and still haven't). It costs about $.40 to make a cd yourself (given you have internet access and file swapping software). The RIAA expects you to pay $15.00 that's and insane difference. Well here's what I don't get.......Why is it not illegal to have a 2 deck tape player/recorder? I mean hell I made hundreds of copies of tapes and cds back in the 80s. I don't remember anyone getting arrested for copying an old motley crue tape.Another thing a lot of people don't realize is that musicains make a lot more money from tours than they do albums. Basically these lawsuits are to insure that the rich RIAA execitives can get that summer home or the second Bently. They fixed the prices of CDs and created this mess. I think that they made their bed and now they should sleep in it. I mean shit isn't the very nature of VCRs and TiVo to copy copyrighted material. No one is sellng this stuff....it's free. And yea , I also use Usenet .
