Doctor said my g/f may be pregnant....
AND SHE IS A VIRGIN!!! Has anyone else have this happen? My girlfriend started her period two days ago, and her side started hurting so she went to the doctor. They couldnt find out what was wrong, so they suggested a pregnancy test, cause they said sometimes an egg will stuck in the felopian tubes and it can hurt....well my girlfriend said no im not pregnant i dont need to take a test. And he said "well i just want u too so we can cross that out of the equation." My gf said i have never had sex its impossible for me to pregnant unless its the second coming of jesus! ( shes very relgious). Well her mom was with her and did not like the doctor and what he was saying, so they soon left. Any thoughts ( and if you suggest she cheated and got pregnant dont even respond, you dont know my gf, thats not even a possibility.)

Why did you even post if you already know she's not pregnant? Obviously if you haven't had sex, der, she isn't. The doctor wants to test your girlfriend because HE doesn't know your girlfriend, and some girls lie about these things (especially if they're in front of their mothers).

almost any time when a girl has trouble with her reproductive system the doctors will ask her to take a pregnancy test. this is simple troubleshooting. This doesn't even mean the doctor thinks she may be pregnant; your gf and her mother shouldn't get so upset over standard procedure.
How old are you and your gf? If you haven't had sex what have you done and does any of this worry you? pregnancy doesn't necessitate vaginal intercourse.

just kidding, man. The doctor is just ticking through the list of things it coud be. She should go back in and have the test.

Well... I think he has to test for for pregnancy regardless because if he prescribes her some medications and it ends up killing a fetus she is carrying (even if she told him she wasn't pregnant) his ass would be liable for one mother of a lawsuit.

Reserve your hotel room now. I hear they're going fast, what, with the census and all.
When you say virgin, do you mean completely, or no intercourse? Like the people above said, even just a drop of semen on your finger can get her pregnant. If you haven't had any sexual contact, I wouldn't get worried until you see a couple of feet pop out. |

One last Christ joke.
Got Myrrh? Having said that, your girlfriends mother is a childish drama queen. No good parent would leave a doctors office and endanger her daughters health because she isn't comfortable. Had they done the test, they could have ruled out pregnancy and moved on to the REAL problem. BTW, there are a lot of possibilities for the symptoms you laid out. It could be nothing, but it could be serious. I would place her health above any simpleton mothers pride. |

There are a few other possibilities: ovarian cyst, endometriosis, infection, etc. Without knowing what the doctor already checked for, it is hard to see what remains. If they are that unhappy with this doctor, go with the 2nd opinion.
Let us know how it turns out.

doctors often don't trust teenaged girls who claim to be virgins. there is a lot of pressure surrounding female adolescent sexuality and frankly teenage girls often do not tell the truth about their sexual history (esp if their mom is in the room) the doctor was probably just being thorough.

Pregnancy tests are quite normal, I have had a bunch of xrays done on my back in recent months, and have been given a pregancy test - -even though I swore there was no chance in hell I was pregnant. They were not going to take any chances.
The doctor's bedside manner may not have been the best, cause he should have explained that better. Momma should have been more patient. Try a different doctor and maybe mom should wait outside...

While the mere suggestion of being pregnant might sound ridiculous/insulting/infuriating to the virgin, her mom and her boyfriend, a pregnancy test is just a routine and easy procedure a doctor often orders for diagnostic purposes, just as the doc said in this case, so he could cross this one possibility out. You could dislike him for not trusting your girlfriend\'s words, but he probably meant well, so don\'t be too offended. In any case, if the pain/discomfort continues, ask your gf to seek another professional\'s opinion. Good luck!

So getting back to the orginal point... I had a severe migrane a couple months ago and my mom was convinced that I was pregnant. And every time I had been nauseated for the past 6 months, she always asked if I was pregnant. It was quite aggravating becase even if I sneezed, she asked me if I was pregnant.
And as for the visit to the Doc, pregnancy tests are pretty much standard procedure. Just go with it because they can test for all sorts of things with a little bit of blood.

while on my surgery rotation last december, the chief of surgery tells a story about a women involved in a car accident. she had a lot of abdominal pain, even though the accident didn't occur at high impact. he then shows us the x ray of the abdomen, which shows a nice healthy fetus in the womb.
moral of the story: ask any woman of reproductive age if she's pregnant, or if there's a possibility she's pregnant. if she says no, you still get the pregnancy test. most ob/gyn's will tell you that any woman that comes in is pregnant until proven otherwise. what the doctor in your girlfriend's case is what any doctor would and should do. as someone pointed out earlier, no doctor wants to be the one who orders an x ray or ct scan or other imaging modality only to see a fetus. no doctor wants to be the one to prescribe a drug treatment regimen, only to find out a fetus was harmed. it's pretty much standard procedure. tell your girlfriend, "welcome to adulthood." |

Her mother obviously has never been to a gyno on a regular basis. Mine has me take a pregnancy test every time I go for a check up. It truly is standard procedure. The mother needs to get her head on straight, take the girl back, and wait in the waiting room. Regardless of if you and she are or are not having sex, a girls sexual history is none of her mother's business.

I just had this happen to me the other day - went in for antibiotics for *not saying* and the Doc threw a fit when I wouldnt let him keep me int he ER an extra half hour to check and see if I was pregnant or not. I flat off told him I was a virgin and his eyes popped out of his head.
Virgin is a more shocking image than.....anal sex....*shruggs* ....*insert shocking image*........these days

and sammy - no she is not cheating - have a little faith in the integrity of women. Many times tests come back with a false posative and many problems with the female "plumbing" simulate pregnancy signs.

To clarify what the above people are saying:
1> The Doctor will check for pregnancy, even if the Doctor doesn't think she is pregnant. A pregnancy test is an easy procedure that can save a lot of grief down the road. 2> Doctors will not trust teenagers who claim they are virgins. While your girlfriend isn't lieing, many teenaged females will claim they are a virgin while their mother is in the room. 3> Get her ass back to the Doctor. The pregnancy test is short and easy, and after it is eliminated the Doctor can see what really is wrong. 4> Even if she didn't have vaginal intercourse ("sex"), she could be pregnant. The odds are very low.

Having your side hurt when starting your period for the month can be alot of things. For that matter, it could even be a bad case of cramps. You should never walk out on a doctor unless he/she is doing something inappropriate. If you don't like a diagnosis, like someone else said, there is always a second opinion.

I just (for some odd narcisstic reason) feel the need to echo everyone and say that, yes, it pretty much is standard procedure for doctors/hospitals to do pregnancy tests. I just had surgery and was asked MANY times if there was a possibility of me being pregnant, and even though I said no every time, I still had to bring in a urine sample the morning fo my surgery for a pregnancy test, because, as the nurse said "This hospital does not allow abortions."
So, I gather that, spontaneous or not, the hospital and/or doctor are responsible for any abortions that may take place. So, not only is the doctor checking ALL possibilities (and checking the easiest first, for your case), they're also saving their own asses.... hmmm.. that seemed rambly. Hope it made sense. |

there's a time and place for everything, and a bad joke is pretty out of place in this thread. but thanks for the heads up, from now on we'll know to take what you say with a grain of salt.
