I just (for some odd narcisstic reason) feel the need to echo everyone and say that, yes, it pretty much is standard procedure for doctors/hospitals to do pregnancy tests. I just had surgery and was asked MANY times if there was a possibility of me being pregnant, and even though I said no every time, I still had to bring in a urine sample the morning fo my surgery for a pregnancy test, because, as the nurse said "This hospital does not allow abortions."
So, I gather that, spontaneous or not, the hospital and/or doctor are responsible for any abortions that may take place. So, not only is the doctor checking ALL possibilities (and checking the easiest first, for your case), they're also saving their own asses....
