Drove out to Sanibel and Captiva Islands this evening with my youngest daughter, Amy. Part of the Everglades are on fire, near by, and I thought there might be enough haze in the skies to "color" things up at sunset.

While the sun was still up in the sky.

Not a lot of color, tonite, but the Summer rains haven't started, yet, so there's still hope. :)

The picture is a bit burnt, but notice the swimmers if you can see them. The water is bathtub warm, now. :)

Took this photo looking away from the sunset and down the beach to give you an idea why "they" say that Sanibel - Captiva is the Shelling Capital of the world.

If you look up to the sky, you can see the smoke from the fire in the Everglades.

Home runs

These are home runs man. The second is awesome. I love them.

Just found this one and thought I'd add it to the already gorgeous collection. Since we don't have any oceans around for a couple hundred miles, best thing I came up with was some trees while camping.

Great shot. Be careful standing in the middle of the street when it is dark, tho. ;-)

It looked like a fair nite for a sunset, tonite, but I waited too long to get down to the beach and the parking was non existent, so instead of writing off the evening, I decided to take a chance on the back side of Estero Island, which is called Mantanzas Pass.

i really liked the stork one, made me laugh

Redgirl 06-15-2004 06:17 PM

OK, now that is a scary lookin' boat! Of course I'm a land-locked Midwesterner, so all huge boats kind of just startle me.

Friday night I went out to Lake Hefner in OKC and got the closest thing to a 'tropic' sunset I've seen yet. We just don't have the kind of cloud cover or something. Our sunsets NEVER look like Tropicdivers. :(

Thanks. I wish I could see your photos, but they are r'exed, for me, this morning. Went to the URL and couldn't pull them up in PhotoBucket, either.

I grew up in Oklahoma (Mangum, Weatherford, OKC and Norman). I used to ride my motorcycle around Hefner?? (was the lake on the northwest side of the City) nearly every evening after work. I don't remember the sunsets there, tho.

Redgirl 06-16-2004 06:02 AM

Yeah, sorry about the rexedness- photobucket's server crashed or something so all my pics I uploaded last night aren't showing up. They said it should be up soon. :(

Yes, Lake Hefner is on the NW side of OKC and it has great bike paths, jogging trails, now it has a dog park, and of course a road around it you can drive on. I live very close to it so I take a lot of pics there.

I guess you weren't too fond of OK since you sound like you never come back! If I had a vista like yours down in FL then I probably wouldn't come back here either.

The more I think about it, it may have been Overholser (I am sure this is horribly misspelled, I might add).

I think your photos are great (now, that I can see 'em).

I lived in Oklahoma from the time I was 9 until I was 26 and that's enough, IMHO. I hated the cold, but was fascinated by the many tornadoes that I got to see while living there. Always kept working my way south... Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin and then Florida. Haven't been back to Oklahoma in *many* years, but I do have many good friends that still live in OKC, Norman, Edmond and Mangum, that I would love to see, again.

Tonite wasn't much in the sunset department, but since I got 'em, I figured I'd share.

OK, Tropic- do you take a bad picture, like, EVER? That is stunning as usual. Wish I was there, bet that water is warm.

Sure I do. Loads of them. I just try not to share them. I took 178, yesterday, and have deleted over half of them for one reason or another, mostly because they sucked. ;-)

And yes, the water is bathtub warm, now.

Oh, I beg to differ about THAT comment. I live near the water and when the 'glades are burning there is haze in the air and together, they help to create beautiful sunsets and sunrises. I just point and shoot. I've decided my 5700 isn't the camera I had hoped it would be and hopefully can save up my pennies and get a real camera and then I'll have some fun.

I just enjoy taking sunsets and sunrises. I've noticed it's getting harder for me to wake up early enough to catch sunrises, tho. ;-)

I don't know if this photo works or not.

Shpoop 06-20-2004 07:27 AM

if u meant worked as in i can see it, it did

if u meant worked as in works as a picture, i think it is one of the best pictures in the thread. the sillhouette of the fishers, the one carrying the fish, and the sun reflecting off of the waves, all complimented by a gentle yellow background that doesnt take away from it...its amazing

tropicdiver: truley amazing photos, where are the paradize you are living in?

Thanks, but it really isn't me. I live where I consider it to be a slice of Heaven (okay, perhaps Hell, durning the hot and humid Summer months and when sweating hurricanes) and I have a so-so camera and I point it in the direction of whatever makes me smile. It is hard to beat the sunrises and sunsets we have here, although I have seen many photos, here, that do equal and at times surpass the beauty I try to share down here in my neck of the woods.

Here's a place I refer to as Tarpon Flats. The water is very skinny, here. It is between mainland Fort Myers and Sanibel Island (on the causeway that crosses the barrier islands).
