Any good sunrise photos out there?
I live in a city in southwest Florida (Cape Coral) that has more canals in it than Venice, Italy. We have some of the most incredible sunrises one can imagine. :-)
How about you? http://www.tropicdiver.com/thesunrise.jpg |
holf f'n s that is beauityful. thats it, i'm moving to flordia!
|
Wow! Great shot. Sunrise is always a beautiful time of day for saturated colors. You caught them perfectly. Nice.
I'll be in Fort Myers again the first week of November. I always make it a habit while I'm there to be on the beach at least for sunset. Love to be out for sunrise, but too many sunset Coronas usually prevent it! :D |
I have nothing that can beat that where I live. But if I ever get up early enough, I'll get one. Great picture btw.
|
very nice picture
|
I've nothing to compare with your sunrise pic. I'm still trying to figure out the subtleties of low light photo taking. I really like the way the textures in the clouds show up at sunrise, though.

My best Sunset so far, I need to take much more though because this was before I knew about not running the horizon through the middle.
|
How much mega pixels do y'all have? I am shooting with a Nikon 5700 with 5.0 MP's. The biggest thing I've found with low lite is turning off the auto focus (I set mine on Infinity and that shuts down the auto focus) and then if you aren't using a tripod, hold the camera as steady as possible to keep from losing a sharp focus, which is really tough to do at 1/4 of a second.
PJ, drop me a line when you come to Ft. Myers (I'll be in Key West in mid November). You can get some great sunset shots on Ft. Myers Beach, too, like the one below. The sky looked like it was on fire. http://www.tropicdiver.com/perfectsunsetpier.jpg |

The best thing I did to learn my camera was to take a very long plane flight and READ THE MANUAL instead of looking out the window, but from time to time, I couldn't help myself, and I looked out the window, too. ;-)
http://www.tropicdiver.com/washingtonstate.jpg Seriously, the Nikon 5700 manual is very thick and I just sat and forced myself to read the whole thing with my camera out during a 5 hour flight from Florida to Seattle. It helped LOADS. |
Whoah, tropicdiver, that's an amazing shot. I don't suppose you would be willing to link to a full size version, would you?
|
Wow, great shot td. I'll tell ya, one of the best I've ever seen from the window of a plane. Nikon obviously makes some good gear, but you have got the eye to use it!
|
Not only one of the best airborne shots of Mt. Rainier I've seen in a long time, but a great job of resizing it for the web. I've noticed that it's really hard to get a good rescale of a pic with the kinds of sharp angles like there are in the airplane wing. You did a good job of keeping the jaggies out. Do you have a particular photoshop process that you can share?
|
Hey, thanks guys. I just put the camera on infinity and pointed and pushed the button. Hope you'll settle for a 1600 X 1000 photo (I have a 100MB limit by my ISP and I'm close to it). I'll take down the link in a couple days.
http://www.tropicdiver.com/bigrainier.jpg No special Photo Shop tricks. Actually, I have both Photo Shop 7.0 and Paint Shop Pro 7.0 and I mostly use my PSP, as it loads quicker and I've been using it for so long it is kinda' second nature to me. The only thing I usually do with my photos is crop, re-size and the unsharp mask. |
those sunrises are some beautiful photos!
|
There is a mile wide river that separates Fort Myers and Cape Coral. It is called the Caloosahatchee. I took this photo standing on the pier at the Cape Coral Yacht Basin at sunset.

Sorry, but I had to do it.

Tonite was a good nite for sunsets in southwest Florida. People who say Key West is the place to go to see incredible sunsets, have obviously never hung out around Ft. Myers Beach or Sanibel / Captiva Island. This evening we were having our typical late afternoon storms and I was in the mood to drive down to the beach and see what kind of sunset was happening. Tonite was a keeper! :-)
My apologies to you dialup folks in advance. ;-) http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset2.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset3.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset4.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset5.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset6.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset7.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset8.jpg http://www.tropicdiver.com/fmbsunset9.jpg |

Hey TD. Been out on the island a few times and I'm coming back the first week of November. You're right about those sunsets, they have to be seen to be believed. Here's one from the first time I visited. (couldn't find the bird the second time around)
|
PJ, I think I've seen the same Great Heron you shot in that great photo of yours, but only during the day. ;-)

Damn, i wanna take to Cape Coral..
I live in denmark, there we doesn't have such beautiful sunsets... :( Wish it was me that lived there.. In my mind, im already planning a trip with my girlfriend - i have had one though :( |
We have a bit of a problem where I live, There are lots of tall buildings around, so I can't get a good picture of a sunset/sunrise. Any tips?

Climb the building. How do I put up my pics the easiest? There is some pretty strong work in that set!!!

I took these last month in northern Ontario, Canada, with a 10 year old digital camera who's battery was almost dead as the sun set. Got about 4 seconds to snap each photo before the camera shut itself off each time.

That last picture = win.
|
Great shots
|
wow... amazing shots
simply amazing |
Some really great shots here. I don't have any good sun rise shots. Way too early for me.
|
The last couple of evenings, we've been getting hammered by some really serious afternoon Summer thunderstorms. I decided to head out to the Cape Coral Yacht Basin Pier and see if there was going to be much of a sunset with the clouds all about. It was nothing to really get excited about, but being out in the tropical warmth with a gentle rain falling was rather nice this evening. :-)

<BR> You know it is just hard to beat a good sunrise or sunset. Can you imagine hoping in a boat and going fishing at sunrise and that was your job? This lucky SOB in the photo does it... |

Just amazing Tropic.
I hear the sands of the Sahara desert are part of the cause of those beautiful sunsets. Heres a sunset I took about a year ago. Could use for photoshopping to lighten up the mountain area a bit. |
Wow. I really the lighting here was that stunning. Mornings here are usually quite bland. Really great photos, tropicdiver. The color is amazing!
