wow - where the heck have I been that I missed this thread?! Some INCREDIBLE shots you've got! You should try to sell some to travel agencies to use in tourism brochures for Florida :)

Thanks for everyone's kind comments and the photos that they have shared, also. Someone sip a beer for me, as I'm driving into the jaws of minimal Tropical Storm Henri this morning on my way to a convention in Tampa. Looking at the radar, it is raining more, here, than it is up there. Here's another sunrise photo. Doesn't look like I will see any for the next day or two. ;-)

Here's a sunrise from Bokeelia on north end of Pine Island. Great place to view the sunrise, but make damned sure you bring mosquito repellant. ;-)

Hey TD. Went out to Bokeelia last time I was down for dinner at that little place right across from that pier. Got a couple sunset shots. Colors were just ok. Man, you've been hitting them at the perfect time, your photos are spectacular.

Amazing photos, tropicdiver. Thanks for sharing! As SecretMethod70 suggested, I bet you could sell some of these photos if you wanted to.

Thanks, everyone. :) |
When you focus on something, everything 1/3 in fron to 2/3 behind is in focus. So instead of focusing on infinity and wasting the 2/3 that is behind infinity (impossible) just focus on something 1/3 out to infinity. Then you can maximize your depth of field.

Went to Ft. Myers beach two days, ago. Sun was setting over Sanibel Island.

I never lose fascination in how the clouds can change so many different colors over a 20 minute period.

Stunning! I'm amazed at how beautiful these pictures are! I love the ones where they sky is on fire. This makes me want to get up and enjoy the sunrises much more often.
|
being in california, I get great sunset,
and theres bioluminescent algae in the water so when waves crash they light up! |

Man, did we have a great sunrise this morning! This is looking from Cape Coral across the Caloosahatchee River to Fort Myers.

I keep thinking I've seen about every variation of a sunrise over the water, down here, but this morning was another keeper. ;)

Even the Australian Pines wanted to get into the sunrise. ;)

This one made me think of Purple Haze and excuse me, while I kiss the sky... :)

I had to reduce the size of this one to put up on this page, but hopefully, you'll get the idea of the colors...

Okay, I figure, by now, you get an idea of the kind of sunrises we get around my neck of the world. ;)

Wow, these pictures are stunning!
I really need to get off my butt and head down to the beach to catch some East Florida coast pictures. Thanks for the inspiration! |
Those are some really amazing pictures.
I've been to Sanibel a few times and it really is beautiful. |
Some info to impress your friends with next time the Sun rises or sets:
Although you've surely seen it, you might not have noticed it. During a cloudless twilight, just before sunrise or after sunset, part of the atmosphere above the horizon appears slightly off-color, slightly pink. Called the Belt of Venus, this off-color band between the dark eclipsed sky and the blue sky can be seen in nearly every direction including that opposite the Sun. Straight above, blue sky is normal sunlight reflecting off the atmosphere. In the Belt of Venus, however, the atmosphere reflects light from the setting (or rising) Sun which appears more red. The Belt of Venus can be seen from any location with a clear horizon. Taken from: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap031021.html |

I had to drive to central Florida (Sebring) this morning for business. Happened to catch sunrise at the lake, there. There wasn't a ripple on the lake. Flat as glass.

Here's another example of how calm the lake water was this morning.

Here is a different angle for you. Taken aboard the USS Enterprise back in my navy days.

Enjoy a good aircraft carrier shot of anything. Great photo. :)

Los Angeles Sunrise
Unfortunately I was in the middle of LA, so I couldn't escape the power lines, but the colors are still gorgeous.

@ tropic >> your photos are amazing, do you sell prints at all?
|
yeah, the lake at Sebring photos are my favourites so far! I would definitely have either as posters on my wall.
the USS Enterprise is very cool too, as is the LA sky with power lines .. I think having something in foreground helps set off the background. Especially if it's in near-silhouette. |

Believe me, if I knew what to do, and really thought my photos were THAT great (which they aren't, but thanks, anyway :) ), I'd love to try. Anything to get me out of the business I am in, now. ;) |

Here's a quick shot that I took last nite on my way home from working late. I had to stop by a customers and it was about 20 minutes before sunset and I was less than a mile from our local pier and as always, I had my camera with me, so....
