Rare Car Sightings

So, I was driving on the 405 yesterday, and I came upon a car that I had neer seen before.. I got closer to look at the emblem..

Maybach!

I trailed it for several miles.. it had no other markings. I looked it up just now.. it's a Maybach 57. The model right below the famed executive Maybach 62.

On a side note, not-so-rare car sighting, I also drove by Cedric The Entertainer while we were in a traffic jam. He was driving a G35 Sedan.

onetime2 03-29-2004 12:10 PM

When I was in Italy several years ago I saw a Ferrari F40. Sweet looking ride for sure.http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~an...es/big/f40.jpg

Peryn 03-29-2004 12:21 PM

Seen a couple ferraris. Nice, but not all that impressive just to see on the road.

Not the best car, but looks pretty sweet. The other day me and my brother chased around a DeTomaso Pantera. Definately a sexy beast.

Except it didn't have hte wing, and the engine/air cleaner stuck up and took up almost the entire rear window.

this may sound crazy, but i had a neighbor who lived just a few houses down from me that had TWO of those. both were a bright yellow. i often heard him start them up, but never take them out on the road. and then one day, they were both just gone, and he had a brand new Stang Cobra and a BMW Z3.

soccerchamp76 03-29-2004 03:21 PM

Let's see.....rare car sightings....
Old Rolls-Royce...
New Bentley...

no sports cars except for a few Vipers

TopRamen66 03-29-2004 03:37 PM

Way to many to count, but I drove an Diablo VT the other day. That was pretty cool.

Halx 03-29-2004 03:40 PM

My mom's cousin drives his Bentley to work, and I drive past his house on the way to work, so I see it every so often. I also saw 2 Dodge Vipers on Saturday, though they'd classify as semi-rare.

Mephisto2 03-29-2004 03:43 PM

I got a lift home from the Kitchen nightclub in the back of Bono's Bristol Blenheim 3 once. Long story... Does that count? They're pretty expensive, hand-built luxury cars from the UK. Around US$220,000 for current model I think.

If not, then a few Lambourghini Countachs and more Ferraris than you can shake a stick at. And of course, the usual Aussie classic grunt cars (the old style Ford V8 GTO's, Torannas etc).

Finally, my XR-6 Turbo is not exactly rare, but it's a big powerful car that not many people seem to have here in Sydney.

Didn't Bart Simpson once steal Hitler's car? Heh...

Mr Mephisto

jay-g 03-29-2004 03:43 PM

I dont know about super rare, but i saw a red m5 BMW. It was looking good...

billege 03-29-2004 03:54 PM

Vipers only qualify as sem-rare if you live in Cali and actually SEE Maybachs on the road. In the midwest, things are different.

Saw a new Viper yesterday, first new one I've seen on the road. Damn H2s are everywhere though.

Mephisto2 03-29-2004 04:09 PM

Have you checked out the Maybach site? Those things are insane...

Mr Mephisto

thanks for heads-up Hal!

GT3_GOD 03-29-2004 04:35 PM

Here in the UK, rarest I have seen has to be one of these:

http://www.plus4.freeserve.co.uk/macf1/mac001.jpg

McLaren F1 LM Edition, sounded as good as it looked! :)

Bigwahzoo 03-29-2004 04:50 PM

Since I live by Ford World HQ I see quite a few rare cars on the road. Recently I have been seeing the new Ford GT. It looks awesome but surprisingly small.

Peryn 03-29-2004 04:52 PM

Yeah, at least in southern california, you hardly even look twice if you see a viper. Head down to an autocross event and you see a half dozen or so of them sometimes, Porsches out the wazoo, NSXs ( usually 2 down there), and the odd ferrari, and i think once there was a lambo.

As for luxory cars, many rolls-royce are to be seen, bentleys are rarer, but still on occasion you can catch one.

nash 03-29-2004 05:20 PM

One day I saw two Buick Grand Nationals in a row! Yay for me!

bodypainter 03-29-2004 06:24 PM

Whoever put that wing and body kit on the Pantera should be slapped...

Peryn 03-29-2004 06:34 PM

Then you ought to ask the DeTomaso designers to come on down for a slapping. It is my understanding that the GT5 came stock with those.

"The GT5 model was introduced in 1980, and it featured much-revised "ground effects" bodywork, including a deep front air dam with integral driving lights, rocker panel extensions, flared wheel arches and a deck lid-mounted "delta" wing spoiler. The GT5 was augmented in 1985 with the introduction of the GT5-S. The GT5-S represented the first significant body redesign of the Pantera since its introduction, which included new, wider flared front and rear fenders, side air intake grilles and a further revised front fascia." - from PanteraClub.com

soccerchamp76 03-29-2004 07:15 PM

When I went down to Destin for spring break I probably saw approximately 20-30 H2s or more. They were everywhere. Although I did see 1 H1 down there and then an H1 back up in St. Louie a few days ago.

brandon11983 03-29-2004 08:42 PM

Granted I've only been in Chicago for a few days, but I've seen an Escalade stretched into tomorrow, some //AMG Benz's, Porsche 911's, a beautiful M5, and enough H2's to last me a lifetime.

WarWagon 03-29-2004 08:51 PM

Ferrari 275 GTB 4.

merkerguitars 03-29-2004 09:31 PM

Around my area this is what i have seen.

Ferrari Testarossa

Buick GNX

1000hp supercharged viper.....big functional wing and blue with white racing stripes....what a beautiful car.

Usually around prom time I limo Hummers and Escalades

Also saw a delorean in a parking lot once.

TheClarkster 03-30-2004 12:20 AM

A rather new viper pulled up to Pizza Hut a couple nights back.
Down my street is a 56 or 57 chevy something, very nice looking and I imagine rather rare.

Stare At The Sun 03-30-2004 12:52 AM

Not too rare, but in one day, i saw 8 Mazda RX-8's....

amazing cars.

Other than that, a shelby and some lambo's.

wrongfullyaccuzd 03-30-2004 01:24 AM

On a nice day you can drive to DC and see people out cruising in their cars: Ferraris, SL 55s, M5s, 911 Turbos, Maseratis, etc. I went to a club downtown last year and two friends were hanging out in the parking lot with their twin NSX's, one red and one yellow. Saw another NSX a couple weeks ago near Tyson's Corner, for those familiar with NoVA. My last Ferrari was about a month ago, a 575M. A friend of mine whose dad is a cardiologist just last summer sold his Testarossa so he could buy an SL55 AMG. The friend himself had a Camaro SS 30th Anniversary Edition and a Trans Am 30th Anniversary Edition. A Lotus Esprit lives down the street from my house. There was a Viper RT/10 on campus last week.
You can see pretty much any kind of sports car around here, but you don't see the rare luxury cars like Rolls or Bentley. But sports cars, yes. The abundance is thanks to the Ferrari/Maserati dealership and the Porsche dealership at Tyson's, which got one of the first new 911 Turbos.
Hal, your TL was everywhere here as soon as it hit the U.S. How common are they where you are?

onetime2 03-30-2004 04:36 AM

Perhaps the funniest Ferrari sighting I saw was a Ferrari 355 parked on the lawn in front of a hardware store with a "For Sale" sign on it. Only in the Hamptons....

Kurant 03-30-2004 06:27 AM

TL's are common even in Alaska, it's a mainstream car. Going to be pretty common everywhere, nice nontheless..

We don't have alot of rare cars around up here, but about a month ago the Bentley Continental GT's were up here for cold weather testing. Which happens pretty often.

Coolest car I've seen up here, would probably be a 660HP Lingenfelter Vette, and yes, it's the real deal. The rarest car, I've seen a TVR 440 R. Most amazing car I've ever seen.

agball 03-30-2004 07:15 AM

I have not seen this one yet and probably never will, due to the fact that Maserati is only making 12 of them in 2004.

http://www.maserati-indy.co.uk/mc12-0001a.jpg

wrongfullyaccuzd 03-30-2004 07:31 AM

Hey Kurant, you probably see a lot of cool cars up there...haha...yeah.

silent_jay 03-30-2004 08:51 AM

Lambo Muria SV

http://www.seriouswheels.com/1971-La...i-Miura-SV.htm

in a town of 15,000 where people think Grand Prix's and Cavaliers are sports cars this was a nice change, what a great looking car.

Scorps 03-30-2004 08:56 AM

Well I have seen very few living in a small town, but I have done an oil change on a 96 Viper and got to drive it, ya for me!

82 Porsche 911

99 Plymouth Prowler(ugly cars)

and there is tons of old muscles cars around this town...some I have never seen before!

pocon1 03-30-2004 11:09 AM

A person in my parent's neighborhood has an ultima gtr. It has a roughly 450 hp 350 v8. The car looked great. Autocrosses are fun places to see different cars. for instance, an old dodge omni glhs turbo with about 330 hp that was used for the one lap of america years ago. Also a couple of super sevens modeled off the old lotus. A lotus europe(the handling on that car is incredible). My wife's uncle went from a porsche 911 to a dodge viper for two years to an audi tt when they just came out, to a bmw m5. His workshop had an old wood framed mg that he was going to restore for the retired executive of Aetna.

Halx 03-30-2004 11:18 AM

Damn that Alaska pipeline. The 04 TL is still pretty rare around where I live despite it being a rather upscale area, but I remember seeing a few of them when I went to Long Beach. I know of only one within a mile of me, so I'm still happy.

There are 2 NSX owners that live in my neighborhood... at a side glance, I always mistake them for corvettes for some reason.

Can see the similarity there, Corvette almost looks like a facelift NSX :)

God I hated that about the small town in Maryland where I grew up. You couldn't spit without hitting a Grand Am or a Cavalier. And everyone thought they were the most badass cars to ever exist. A brand new Grand Am was regarded as a status symbol, much like a Lexus would be in civilized areas.

There are a lot of neat cars here in Florida. I see Vettes all the time, the occasional Viper, a lot of old restored convertibles, the occasional Ferrari, etc.

The ultimate, though, was when I worked in Northern Virgnia near Tysons Corner. That place was just nuts. I commonly saw Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Porsches, Ferraris, etc. BMWs and Benzes were as common as Fords and Toyotas elsewhere.

viper11885 03-30-2004 03:58 PM

This is the only time that I have seen one of these on the road:

I actually saw a crappy Ferrari 308 this morning on the way to school. As far as rare because they're new, I saw a Chevy SSR and the new BMW 545 yesterday, that beemer looks awesome, and the SSR looked a little bigger than I was expecting.

Cynthetiq 03-30-2004 10:14 PM

I just saw a yellow NSX and a Ferrari Modena.

heck, that's one thing I miss about LA and Las Vegas is the incredible cars I'd see all the time.

castex 03-31-2004 02:38 AM

There's no such thing, Ilow, as a crappy 308.

clonmult 03-31-2004 03:48 AM

castex - ditto, the 308 is gorgeous.

The older Ferraris are sexy in a way the new ones can't even begin to be (currently ones don't have the curves that a sexy italian car needs).

I'd love to have one of the Italian market-only 208s - its similar to the 308/328, but with a 2 liter V8 turbo (300+ brake, designed to fit into some tax bracket).

rareties I've seen here in the south of England :

New Bentley GT coupe (awesome - looks like a solid slab of metal)
Various lambos
New SL500 (very nice ride)
Plenty of RX8s - nice, but the RX7 is still one of the best looking cars out of Japan (looks much better than the NSX IMHO).

And a few Suzuki Capuccinos (cute, but way too small).

but the corvette design was around longer.

Ilow 03-31-2004 08:25 AM

Well, although I agree that the older Ferraris are more artisticly styled overall, the 308 series always seemed so common and un-exotic to me, sort of the Lamborghini Jalpa of the Ferrari line. I know it is still a Ferrari and all that and of course I wouldn't mind taking a turn through some twisties with it it's just that If I can think about affording one (you can easily get one for $20-30k) how exotic can they be? I also know that they got better as they went along, the GTB was pretty nice and the 328's were even nicer, it's just that their contemporary stablemates the 512BB and the Testarossa were so much more exotic (IMHO). Don't get me started on the Mondial btw, that thing's just ugly. I'm glad so many out there appreciate the classics, but if I'm going to dream, I'm going to dream BIG.

Well, the NSX started in 1991 i believe. And its design and shape pretty much haven't changed. The c5 corvette however didn't start until (i think) 1997. Now hte C4 was around before the NSX, but personally, i dont think they look anywhere near as similar as the nsx/c5 do. Could be Acura just elaborated on hte c4 on their own car before chevy did though....i dunno.

Munku 03-31-2004 12:32 PM

In my city, all I've seen are 1, Delorean, 1 Ferarri, 3 Vipers, Countless Corvettes.

bigoldalphamale 03-31-2004 02:38 PM

*yawn* living in northern virginia has desensitized me to the beautiful car. i mean, i still get excited about the limited edition cobra, calloway vette, or Dinan Max 5 series, but as a true car enthusiast, i just have too much on my plate around here. my girl is friends with a hair dresser who drives a 2004 911 twin. probably bought by her lobbyist husband, but whatever. you pretty much have to be driving something valued over $200k to get a second glance around here. seeing that pantera above is great though...probably have only seen one or two of those on the road around here in the last 10 years. love them!!!!!! and those would have to qualify as my rare spots.

hilbert25 03-31-2004 09:35 PM

A guy drives an NSX to work everyday and I have to pass it everyday in the parking lot.

I'm not sure how rare, but there's a Corvette Stingray on my block.

Seen 3 Bentley's in the same parking lot (could have sworn it was a convention).

A student at my SO's college drives an A8 ($80g car still classifies as rare in my book).

Seen 2 Prowlers on the road.

Had to pass a Porche and Maserati dealer, as well as a Bentley/Rolls/Lotus dealer every day for awhile.

I passed a guy's house once that had 4 porches outside, all were of 80's vintage, and he had a crappy house, but damn did he have good cars.

God, it sucks living in San Diego, seeing people driving in cars like that all the time that don't deserve it.

Bravo! I drive a 365gt4BB - one of 380 or so made, and one of 60(ish) Rhd - the faster, lighter, prettier predecessor to the 512BB.
My dreams used to be the same as yours, apparently...Now I dream of buffalo wings and snowy mountains, for some reason:D

silent_jay 04-01-2004 07:55 AM

I loved the old Lamborghini Jalpa and old Ferrari's

Scorps 04-01-2004 08:23 AM

Well I was downtown today and saw a brand new Viper parked at a used car place.....had to have been the owners but it did have a dealer plate on it!;)

BoomTruck 04-01-2004 09:01 AM

I saw a Marmon P-57 (heavy truck) a while back. Rather elusive, as they quit making them several years ago, and they were assembeled one at a time.

Rodney 04-01-2004 11:31 AM

I live in a tourist town on the West Coast with good weather, so we have a lot of old or rare cars around here because 1) no snow or road salt, so they don't corrode, 2) we have a fair number of wealthy people and car customizers who like to have cool rides and show them off, and 3) people like to come here and show off.

Since this is a beach town and has a classic woody club, I've seen more old woody stations wagons than I can count. Some of them are pretty strange, too, not the "classic" woodies you see in pictures.

We have a guy with an old Checker in civilian colors who used to park next to me at the community college. A Checker is the classic old-time big taxicab that you see in old movies. They were made as cabs, though some were sold otherwise, and they have back seats big enough to play pingpong in. Cool, heavy old car. Stopped making them in '82.

There's a guy about two blocks from me who keeps two Rambler Metropolitans in his front yard. Those are those really tiny little cars from the '50s, really single-seaters.

There's a guy around town with a '58 or '59 Caddy who's lowered it, painted it black, and taken off almost all the chrome. It looks like the Evil Villain's car from an old superhero movie serial.

There's a guy with a '47 Chevy that he keeps parked at his business. Chevys from that era are nothing special, so nobody preserved them. This is like the only 46-50 Chevy I've ever seen on the road.

There's at least one Avanti on the road around here. Can't tell whether it's an actual Studebaker ('63, '64) or was made after the company went independent. It's the original design, though.

And I won't even mention the Stutz Bearcat, the '20s-era fire engine that somebody converted into a giant roadster, the Giant Purple Pimpmobile. It's a pretty cool town for car-watching. And about 40 miles from here, up in the hills, there's a very rich gentleman with a massive estate and his own private collection of tanks and armored vehicles, which he and his friends use for war games on the grand scale. Friends of mine have seen it, and I'd love to see it myself someday.

Mr Mephisto

Halx 04-02-2004 02:07 PM

about the DeLorean.. I think there were more because a friend of mine is going out with a guy who has one that's in really bad shape. I can't imagine people not taking care of a car that rare.. it's just not fathomable.

TheClarkster 04-02-2004 02:16 PM

"There were a total of about 9,200 DeLoreans manufactured spanning three model years and two calendar years"

Taken from a site seemingly dedicated to deloreans and their VIN numbers.

bellzboy 04-02-2004 06:39 PM

I have seen an immaculate 1904 Oldsmobile drive down my street, as well as another car from the same period (I didnt get to talk to the driver that time, so I dont know any details). Also, a Shelby AC Cobra(I assume it was a replica, but regardless, it was quite badass). The sounds that come from those side pipes are absolutely orgasmic. I cannot think of a more evil and powerful sound exists.

Also I have seen a couple vipers around here, parked next to one at Best Buy once just so i could drool over it. They are so much smaller up close than you expect.

pocon1 04-02-2004 07:03 PM

A person in Bethesda on River road used to have a German Moog, an old militaryesque vehicle. Looked more like a truck, but probably designed to function like a hummer or something like that. Saw it on a tv show once, comes with hydraulic lines for things like plow blades, etc.. They said with the snorkel, you could put into 7 feet of water. The diesel engine would not stop.

OK, I was thinking of the factory he setup in Northern Ireland. He must have had another factory in the US at some stage?

9,200 is a SHIT load more than I thought there was.

Actually, there's an annual British car day around here and on those days I see a parade of old and very likely rare British cars drive past. So I've probably seen a lot of rare cars and I just don't know it. I've seen tons of TVR's on those days but I have no idea how rare they are since they're British. They look really nice, though.

The Unimog is what you are talking about, it kicks the crap out of most things off road, and in my opinion is better than the Hummer. Here's the links I put up in another thread if you wanna check them out.

Not all that rare, but since they just came out i thought it was kinda cool. Saw my first Dodge Ram SRT-10 yesterday. Was a sweet pearlized off-white color and looked most badass. I looooooove that hood scoop. One of the best looking scoops to date imo, and even the trunk spoiler doesn't look too bad.

I cannot think of a more evil and powerful sound exists.

Also I have seen a couple vipers around here, parked next to one at Best Buy once just so i could drool over it. They are so much smaller up close than you expect.

Oh Man I have also seen a Shelby Cobra, and even from a distance those pipes sound so nice!

ALso Seen a Shelby Mustang 350 GT and a 500 GT

I think it'd be very cool to see one of those pass me on the streets. Especially one of the ones with the classic blue w/ white stripes viper paint job.

-Ever- 04-03-2004 03:06 PM

If it was a Shelby Cobra, than it was a replica for sure. The AC Cobra's are the original ($$$,$$$) and the replicas are the Shelby's that are generally sold as kit cars. (to my knowledge...)

pocon1 04-03-2004 08:27 PM

Thats right, it is the unimog. Moog is a lubrication manufacturer. Saw a viper today, and often see a porsche cayenne once or twice a week.

Sion 04-04-2004 03:31 PM

both of my rare car sightings were when I worked at a gas station way back when I was still a teenager.

saw one of these:

http://www.berlin-mietwagen.de/image...gro__grau2.jpg

not sure of the exact year, but it was definitely a Silver Cloud and was immaculate. very cool car to see up close.

also once had customer come in driving a canary yellow Cutlass convertible (around a 1970 or so, cant remember the year for certain). nothing particularly rare about that, except the it had right-hand steering. thats right, the steering wheel was on the right side of the car. was an overseas model that had been broght over by the owner (a serviceman) who couldnt bear to part with it when he returned stateside.

I restore bugattis for a living, to own a bugatti you have to have some pretty serious money. My biggest client live only a few miles south of me and i have to go down to his place once a twice a week, along with owning 20+ bugattis he also owns the usual ferraris, lambos and jags. Once we thaw out up here then we take the cars out and "excercise" them on the weekends.:D

fuzyfuzer 04-04-2004 04:50 PM

i see a delorian every day and i even got to drive it because it is my neighbors and he is pretty nice he has two of them one he keeps in the garage for spare parts

What can I say.. WOW. Does he have they Veyron yet?

TheClarkster 04-04-2004 05:48 PM

I just saw a late 50s early 60s Buick Super 88.
It was beautiful, shaved doors, flat black and sparkly red dualtone paint job, fat white wall tires, and a beautiful car all around.

Oi. I need to bring my camera with me from now on.

hilbert25 04-04-2004 06:23 PM

Just saw a shelby cobra, probably a replica, but you don't see one everyday.

Oh and I forgot, I saw a woodie limo awhile back.

No and he won't buy one. We were down at the Montery Historics this year and we watched the test driver spin the veyron on the pace lap for the bugatti grand prix. It was a fairly obvious that they didn't have the chassis sorted yet, the corner it was going through shouldn't have upset the chassis enough to get it unbalanced. In my opinon, for what its worth, a 1.3 million dollar car should be able to handle a decent corner without going doing a 360.

Esoteric 04-04-2004 06:47 PM

I saw a Rolls Royce Phantom the other day. Damn that car is nice.

R3d 04-04-2004 09:01 PM

wrongfullyaccuzd 04-05-2004 12:36 AM

That's just silly. What does he do for a living?

bundy 04-05-2004 02:20 AM

is his name Jerry Seinfeld?

i like this thread.

i wish i had had a camera when i worked at the bar.
down in the carpark there were always amazing vehicles.
from memory the regulars were a few Rolls Royces, one GT2 (i think) Porsche and a Lambo.
sexy cars.

oh! just remembered, the weirdest car experience i had there was when i stood too close to a new Maserati (i was peering in the window) and this voice told me to back away from the car... it was part of the fucking alarm system... scared the shit out of me.

edit - those Unimogs seem very like an army style of vehicle we have here, called OKAs.

qtpye4u84 04-05-2004 03:20 AM

2004 Acura RSX Type R, Is the car I want but its only in japan. When I was in high school I saw a kids dad picking him up in a DeLorean it was pretty cool.
I have seen lamberginies while driving on the freeways.
OH yea lol I saw a streatch VW bug it looked funny, and I saw a very very old pacer, It was so old that it is not very safe to drive the back seat of the car was just like a 2 seater with out a back on it and it is right up against the glass window, the back of the car it looked very dangerious.

clonmult 04-05-2004 03:30 AM

I used to live down the road from the TVR factory in Blackpool (England). There was a road about 1 minutes walk from our house where they would open the cars up for a few minutes - the sound was awesome.

Kinda wish I lived back there now - Speed 12, Cereberas, etc. etc. TVR is the ONLY totally british car company left, and they still compete in performance and looks with the worlds best.

Jeeze, childhood memories of walking to school and passing their workshops ... kinda like kids living near Maranello (but on a slightly smaller scale!).

DeLoreans - 9,000+ made. Most people automatically think of the shiny bodied V8/Back to the Future models. I think most were V6 plastic bodied models, kinda crappy in comparison. Seem them on E-bay for a few thousand.

There is a yellow Ferrari F355 targa and a white Lamborghini Countach with red interior in my town. We also have a few Vipers, one which was always in the driveway of a duplex and never garaged. It sat there for years until the guy either moved or sold it. It was definitely driven, though, and looked it.

Other than that, there is a red Ferrari 512TR, a DeLorean and a Lotus Elise (which is also always parked outside in some guy's driveway).

I think I might know who this is. Except I know he has a white BMW M5 and a Supra as well and you didn't mention them...
Do you know what he does for a living? That's quite insane!

madsenj37 04-05-2004 02:09 PM

Saw a Maybach the other day, see Ferraris all the time and a few months ago I saw a Qvale Mangusta. I liked the Mangusta.

Car Magazine did an article on him with his Enzo.. they took it through Manhatten.. if anyone reads Car mag tho..

Scorps 04-06-2004 08:26 AM

I remember last summer I saw an old Harold Harvey if thats what they are called!

I can't find a pic, but Stacy on Trucks TV used one as a project truck about 6 months ago.

TheClarkster 04-10-2004 02:14 PM

I saw one of these pass by my work today.

http://autozine.kyul.net/gallery/lam...i/Gallardo.jpg

Quite rare considering I don't think anyone in town even owns a lambo of any sort.

brandon11983 04-11-2004 07:32 PM

I saw a DeLorean on the highway today. That was cool, as I had never seen one in real life before. And the crux of my day happened on the walk back to my apartment. I was dragging my wheeled suitcase and heard a sort of throaty rumbling in the distance. I dismissed it, thinking it was one of the million wannabe ricers with fart cannons on their stock Civic's, but after a few seconds I could tell it was something else. I stoped walking so I could hear better, and what passes right by me but a brand fucking new, dealer plated, midnight blue Ferrari 360 Modena!! It had an exhaust note like nothing I've ever heard. The driver held it the meat of whatever gear he was in, so it was making a little noise.... Throaty, but not honking like a muscle car... more refined. I took off running like a mad fool, suitcase in tow, to hear it accelerate away from the intersection. Driver takes off and gets after it a little, and kept it in the meat of 2nd gear to give it that sweet sweet exhaust rumble.

joshibahn 04-12-2004 01:18 PM

I got to see Rasheed Wallace cruising Portland (before he left) in his Maybach, Damon Stoudamire has an Aston Martin Vanquish, one of the local car dealers has an F40, F50, Enzo, and several other high end goodies...There is a BADASS Twin Turbo Diablo that rolls around everyonce in a while, when it sunny of course, rumour has it thats it's somewhere over 1000hp...Murcielago's are starting to be more common.... those look wicked coming up in your rearview.....

tkkfan 04-12-2004 05:08 PM

I used to go racing all the time in Nevada--Silver State Classic and Pony Express. Just about every rare car u could imagine. I was driving a Shelby Cobra, well, replicar.

telekinetic 04-14-2004 02:55 AM

Saw a silver Ferrari 360 Modena today. Not that they're THAT rare, but there is a pair of NSX's at a house on my street, one of which is supercharged (their other car is an Element, silly Honda fanboys)

I'd say the rarest car I've seen is a GT2 that the owner of our Autocross race track drove to a race a few months ago. He drove that there (had less than 3 grand on the odometer) and then pulled an Evo 8 off a trailer to race. Crazy stuff....then again, he does privately own a race track. That he had built for him to play with his cars on.

onetime2 04-29-2004 10:53 AM

Saw a Ferrari Mondial and a Lamborghini Diablo within about twenty minutes of each other last weekend.

joshibahn 04-29-2004 04:39 PM

OOH, OOH!! I just saw a new 911 GT2@!!!! TODAY, ouch

telekinetic 04-29-2004 05:17 PM

Saw three Bentley GT coupes with manufacturers plates earlier this week.

W12, twin turbo, 500+hp. Mmmmmm....

DEI37 04-29-2004 05:52 PM

Saw a '57 'Vette the other day. There's a DeLorean in the area. I know of a couple of Viper's, one being a GT-S. There are two Saleen Mustangs, and one Lingenfelter Corvette. I've seen those, and rumour has it there is a Callaway 'Vette around here somewhere. BTW, the town I live in...12,000 people.
