I saw a Silver Nissan Skyline the other day. I wish I had my camera, that car was looking good.
|
I got to see one of these up close almost every day for 2 months. Vector W-8
ftp://ftp.team.net/ktud/pictures/Vector/vectrwx3.jpg http://www.fast-autos.net/photoarchive/vector/w8.jpg I came very close to getting to drive it too. Unfortunately, another employee got first dibs since he had worked there a lot longer than I had. |
I live in Ann Arbor so its close to the auto capital of the world and i've seen a lot of sweet cars. Also the Car and Driver editorial studio is next to my house.
Here is a list and i got pics if anyone doesnt belive me. I'd say that Vector is about as rare as it gets, nice find.
|
I see viper's every few weeks, with the leading viper dealer in the country a mile away.
along with prowler's (a little more rare) found 4 viper's with keys in them one weekend. saw a ram srt-10on the road today and also saw a chevy SSR today saleen mustangs on ocassion |
I see a silver Audi RS6 on a somewhat regular basis. Its a beautiful machine with a nasty exhaust note for such a refined car.

does the new Mustage look nice in person? |
almost every italian car ever, and tons of other exotica's. I've seen lotta F40's, F50's, 3 Enzo's, McLaren F1, couple Saleen S7's, Porsche 959, etc etc so many at car shows. but by rare sightings, you mean on the road, not as much
couple lambo murcielago's that italidesign corvette concept NSX's porsche GT2's lotus elise lotta mercedes SL55's TVR Tuscan and more |
I saw a Alfa Romeo GTV from the early 70s today, nice car!
|
Quote:
edit: nevermind, looked over it again and saw the Caterham. I missed it with as little sleep as I had. |
around my area here in chicago there is a prestigous leasing place were you can rent an aston martin DB7 so i ahve seen it on the road every once in a while. sweet looking car when its crousing along
|
I saw a Old Gremlin the other day...looked mint, it was parked and looked damn nice for its age...don't know the exact year this one was made...not good with years!
|
i live in southern california in a place called huntington beach. newport is right next to me and my fathers friend is a race car driver and a collecter so ive seen nearly everything including:
ferrari 365 gtb lambo merchalanjfa... i cant spell two (count 'em two) nissan skyline r33 gtr's (one belonging to my ex-neighbor paul walker) a few limited edition bently's more ferrari's than you can shake a stick at (newport is filled with them) many porsches including a new gt3 my neighbor has 2 pantera's a billion classics from '32 roadsters to hemi-cuda's (i go to a place called Donut Derilicts saturday mornings, look it up) a few vipers (today that is) and about anything else you can think of (no mclaren yet though) and i have a 2002 corvette Z06 myself |
This is a funny story. My wife went out for lunch one day when she said she saw a really neat sports car. I asked her what kind (Vette, Viper, Porsche maybe even a Ferrari or Lambo) She said that it wasn't any of those that it began with an Mc. I asked do you mean an MG or some little roadster like her dads car (Austin Healey 3000) No it was new and looked very fast. I racked my brain (this goes back about 5 years). I asked her if maybe it was McLaren? She said that was it. I told her she had probably seen one of maybe 20 of these in the entire United States. She just shrugged and said it was nice. Yeah their OK.... women!

Oh man days you wish you had a camera in your car:D |
In Nasvhille, TN:
2 - 360 Modena's - One silver, one red Last year the Vette Anniversary was here and there was a parade with one from every model year. My favorite: 1973. See a few NSX's around H2's are all over. I see people that drive them that probably spent more for the H2 and the gas than their house. Weird. Porche Cayenne is not seen much around here, but saw one the other day. Don't see much of the 7 series BMW's either, but caught a glimpse of one the other day. On a smaller scale, a first for me was the new Scion xB. Some guy had it a killer system in it. Favorite car is that McLauren F1 above. Absolutely breathtaking. |
The McLaren F1 is my all-time favourite too.
Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean, Blackadder, etc.) has (had?) one years back. He was driving somewhere north of my sisters place, and drove into the back of an Austin Maestro (old pile of rust). It got taken into a garage near my sisters place. It was in the local press - half a million quids worth of car drives into the back of something worth less than a pack of cigarettes. A friend worked at a car tuning place many years back - they were running around a circuit here in the UK testing some suspension mods to the bosses Bentley ... and McLaren were doing some of the early production testing for the F1. It blew their minds at the time, and its still probably the all-time greatest road/race car. Nothing beats it. Period. |
I saw an H2 stretch yesterday on Michigan Ave. Booooring. About another block down I did see a mid 90's (??) Lambo go by me. Nice exhaust growl that machine has!
|

.........and Wyclef Jeans owns about 3 of them |
I was driving past the local Ferrari dealer in Rosemont PA a couple weeks ago and thought I saw something that I was not expecting to see for a long time if at all. So I went around the block, pulled into their front lot, parked and got out to look closer and lo and behold, there it was, a new Porsche Carerra GT, silver, gorgeous. This is one of my favorite cars of all time. I walked around it about ten times just oogling all the stuff I could see, the top was open/off. Nobody even came out to see what I was doing so I just said wow a lot and left. One of those times I wish I had a camera. My 9yo son was with me and asked if he can get me one for Father's Day ...so I got my fingers crossed ;)
|
Working at a high scale resort here in AZ, I see numerous amounts of nice cars. I remember living in the High Desert of CA and getting all excited when we would see any type of Mercedes. I remember, right when I moved, that an NSX had just moved into town. Anyway, so I work in a resort and I have helped with valet service every once in a while. I've seen lots of BMW's and Mercedes (including AMG models), sat in a Lambo once, tons of Ferrari’s, a BMW Z8, Corvettes, Bentleys, Vipers, Porsches, and Rolls. I wish that I had a digital camera during the last three years that I have worked here. Now I will be working with my brother at his company and driving the company cars, 2 '99 Corvette C5's and a Porsche Carrera. Woot!
|
You luckey bastard, im so jealous.
|
I live in LA, so "rare" sports cars are pretty abundant.
Rarest I've seen? A nice yellow Enzo on Coldwater and Ventura. I screamed. The other non-car enthusiasts in my car thought I was having a heart attack. About 15 Murcielagos in the past year (tried to get a black one on 22s to race me in my stock G35 so I could hear it let loose in person. Succeeded and was killed thoroughly, but i think I busted in my pants when i heard that V12 scream with my windows open.). There are a couple Maseratis here and there. Seems like i see Ferraris at least every 2 weeks or so. Porsches and BMWs are a dime a dozen, as are those AMGs, but they're still all amazing cars, so it's quite fun to drive through the Hills of Beverly just to watch them go by. However, it's the WORST when you see somebody driving a car fast enough to break the highway speed limit in 4 seconds or less traveling 5 mph under the speed limit. While I am an advocate of safe driving (most of the time), I can't help but be frustrated at putting a muzzle on beasts like that. |
Was in New York the past weekend, and right next to me a Rolls Royce Phantom 2004 rolled up. It was definetly a site to see.
BTW has anybody seen a VW Phaeton on the road, I personally have not come across any. |

In NYC I saw a Maybach just outside of the Nasdaq center.
http://www.libero.co.kr/upload/tmc_psd/maybach.jpg on 57th street the other week I saw one of these...with a GIANT dump truck right behind it. He kept about 2 car lengths behind this SMART car because he could not see it under his hood. http://www.photo.net/photo/pcd0796/s...h-car-38.3.jpg |
Saw my first Enzo on the street last week. Niiiiice.
|
|
hehehe I just saw my first Segways... Peter Gabriel and his daughter were riding them in his concert :)
|
I was absolutely astonished to see a beautiful silver Gallardo drive right in front of our apartment about 10 minutes ago. I sat there in awe, jaw on the floor, exposing partially chewed bratwurst in my mouth. It had an odd sound to it, a noticeable blowing sound, and then it finally accelerated away.
|
Lol @ that smart - they are so common over here (in the UK) now. When I first saw one, kinda thought it was cool, but quickly realised they are an overpriced adults version of a Little Tikes kiddy car.
What is nice on the smarts is how much kit you can option on them ... to the point of almost doubling the price by just adding on a nice set of wheels. I saw a Ferrari F50 several years back in a quiet little town in the north west .... I had just come out of the newsagents in this sleepy little (cheap, must say cheap, 'cos no-one in the place really had much money) town, to see an F50 come cruising down the road to stop at the lights in front of me. I missed more than just a few breaths. Now that looked seriously good in person. |

This is the rarest I see (everyday). It is a 1996 Grand Sport with Callaway body kit and engine package over the original LT4. 1 of 4 in existence. |
Quote:
My only problem with them is how they handle an accident. You have practically no crumple zones. Which scares the living crap out of me. Choskins - does that Corvette come with the Hooters girls each time you see it???? |
Took these the other day....Name this car...

Saw an '04 Viper a couple days ago, that silver color thats almost white.
I heard it before I saw it and thats what made me look for it. Then I spotted it... and promptly nutted. |
Cyn,
Good call. I'm sure you know the spot too. That's eastbound on the Howard Franklin entering Tampa. |
Well its not the rarest in this thread, however living in a country with only 4 million people, with a size smaller than all of the states of the US, in a town with aobut 150,000 people. You kinda take what you can get.
The best we can get in my town is this http://www.odt.co.nz/cgi-bin/search-...a&DB=Editorial Its driven past me twice as ive been on foot and my god, the engine has to be heard to be believed. This car tells you what its all about right from the first second it comes into earshot and it looks the part too. Definitely made my day both times :) |

Today on the freeway I saw a red Ferrari 550 Barchetta and a yellow Lambourghini Murcielago. I was so stoked to see them... truely amazing works.
|
A Barchetta? Wow, that is rare!
|
If anyone sees a Bugatti Veyron... let me know... I cant wait till those start popping up.

Not exceedingly rare but still a nice ride.
I think a shipment of 2005's must have come in because I saw two on the same day last week. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...82_07Nov04.jpg 2005 BMW 645Ci |
Saw a Murceilago in my town, which only has 15,000 people living in it, I think it might have been an out of towner. Also around town are the usual, Viper, Prowler, Vette, SVT Mustangs, NSX, oh and like an 89 Ferrari 328. None are really rare, except the Murcielago.
|
The rarest car ive seen on the road would be a Ferrari, ive never seen one in real life until then, and wow, those are loud, just idle. Come to think of it, ive actally seen a lot of rare cars, for illinois. Ive seen a Viper parked outside a gym, a Lotus on the road, an NSX, a Shelby, a lamborgihini diablo on the street, and a Supra in Chinatown.
|
I live in Nevada for a while, so I've seen lots of Ferraris and Lamborgihinis. The rarest car I've seen in the US was when I got lost on Long Island, NY and saw an imported Skyline. One of the few times I didn't have my fricken camera. I was sure it was not a 240SX conversion because the steering wheel was on the wrong side.
|
this was in the back of a workshop near my brothers shop.
http://membres.lycos.fr/mgcgt/Italiennes/Enzo.jpg |
OMG, only 399 of those are to be made in total, there goes one
/cries |
I've seen the same Acura NSX in the area twice now. It's black and looks nice, but I'm not a big fan of the car personally.
We went to Florida a few winters ago, and the Miami Beach area has tons of fine rides. We visited a dealer there and they had Lotuses and Porsches on the lot. Inside they had one of the purple Lamborghini Jotas, Vanilla Ice's white Porsche, a few Bentleys, and some Ferraris. While at Virginia Beach I saw an Aston Martin DB7, and one of the doctors at a local hospital drives a Lexus SC, which I think is really nice. Lastly, in the parking lot at work there is occasionally an orange Nissan Z, and while they aren't rare or super-expensive, they are easily one of my favorite cars right now. |
Saw an Enzo not too long ago. I see Ferraris, Mazeratis and Porsches on a daily basis, all parked at the building i work in.
|
Someone at my school, Cal State Northridge, drives a Rumble Bee Viper.
I didn't even know they made Vipers with the rumble bee tag... |
Whilst on my way to the (Newport) beach, I drove down a very small street. The kind where cars must take turns traveling down them. Anywho... I saw three Lambos on the same street, all parked at the curb infront of different houses.
|
About 1 week ago, I saw one of these:
http://www.disp0sable.org/images/la00sv1.jpg It was a Lamborghini Diablo SV, but it was more of a purple metallic color. The sound that was comming from that thing was just orgasmic. It also had a cop car following it since in my state you cannot have cars that low to the ground. :) The key important fact of this is that where I live, anything better then your average BMW is impressive. Tons of muscle cars tho. |
I don't know if it counts, but I wa at an unofficial launch of the nem BMW M5 here in Copenhagen yesterday. It doesn't gon sale before May next year. Sooooooo hot... The sound of those 10 cylinders is awesome!!!! No, really, I got wood from listening to it.
|
I always enjoy seeing the Daloreon (sp?) running around. Complete with flux capacitor!
|
OK, living in Atlanta I see a lot of exotics, so I've seen most of the cars in this thread. There's actually a Ferrari/Aston Martin/Maserati dealership not far from my house (not bragging, it's just the facts).
But <i>this</i> is pretty rare. My buddy took a picture of one at the casino in Monaco. <IMG SRC="http://www.0-100.it/desktop/pagani/pagani_zonda_c12s_01.jpg"> |
I don't live in a large city, so when I saw one of these in front of the health club I belong to, I nearly crapped. Belongs to a 'personal injury' lawyer. In black, totally gorgeous.
http://alteraxion.typepad.com/movies...ental%20GT.jpg And a few months ago I saw one of these a mile from my house and I think I've seen it a few more times. Also in black. Also gorgeous. http://maserati.thenetlab.net/NewMas.../coup2_800.jpe Also have driven my boss' M5 a few years ago and more recently his AMG E55. He has ordered a Corvette C6. He changes cars about once a year. Can't wait to drive the Vette. |
Damn pagani... i plan to own one of those some day. i don't care how.
yea in my town of wilmington nc there are a few nice things here and there. about 6 ferraris, a lambo, one guy in town has a bentley which is his daily driver(lincese tag: My wife) 360 (tag: my mistress) and i think the other is like a M5 (tag: my maid) seen a few NSX, shelby cobras, buddy has a mint 66 stingray that is nice, and cousin has a 66 GTO (not that rare just cool), some Ms and AMGs and once SL65 AMG about died at that, because who was driving but a 16 year old on her cell phone (could have killed her for that car), and my cousin and i where joking at two things we have never seen. a Ford Cobra R, and a oldsmoblie dealership (do they even exist?) |

I saw this car parked next to my dad's car last summer. No, it wasn't just the paintjob. It looked identical down to the last sticker. The only difference is that the number wasn't there. It was just a white square.
http://www.kingwoodclc.net/home/show...ru%20rally.jpg |
Thats cool, but exactly where was it parked? At a Wal-mart? Im not calling you a liar, i just doubt that that exact rally car was just drving round the streets of illinois. Or was it parked at like a rally event?
|

I guess a Lamborghini Countach isn't seen everyday, there is one in town, but I think its a kit car it does have all the right tags.
I have also seen a Acura NSX and a done up Mini(new one) Its not really rare but one with a body kit low profile rims/tires is rare in this city! There is also a old Ferrari around here just don't know what make it is! Quote:
Would have been sweet to get a pic of that car! Quote:
|
Dude, Craven I saw one of those Bentley GT coupes on the freeway last weekend and it was one of the ugliest things i had ever seen. The back end doenst match the rest of the car very well.
|
When living in San Diego. I saw a 1925 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. The cool part was that the thing had been hotrodded and was painted White pearl, Street slicks on the back and skinny tires on the front. Followed the guy to his house to find out what the hell it was. The guy had more money than he could spend. He said he hot rodded it because no one else in history had the money to or if they had the money they didn't have the balls to do it.
|
Someone in town has a new NSX, and on Saturday night I saw a DeTomaso Pantera being driven slowly and loudly, as if to say to everyone, "Hey everyone, look at me, I'm driving this car, I have a hot woman in the passenger seat, and you don't have the car or the woman."
|
Saw two lamborghini countach's driving side by side, one black one red in a residential neighborhood last week. Quite when coming at you, loud when driving away.
|
I saw a Dodge Viper once.
Probably no big deal to you guys, but I live in Sydney, and all our cars are RHD. So this guy must have forked out a fortune to have it converted from LHD and complianced etc... unless it was a 'replica', in which case it would have still cost him a pretty penny. |
http://alex.carpent.free.fr/bentley_...ntal_gt_03.jpg
I saw one of these last night... in silver... today at lunch I saw one in metallic blue.... weird. 2 in 24 hours... I wouldn't say it's drop dead gorgeous, but it is quite a stunning vehicle in person. |
I had one of those pull up next to me at a light a few months ago and suddenly i felt small....the wheels are huge for a car!
edit: Forgot to add, this was black and still had dealer plates on. |
I really like the Pantera, ya dont see many of those cars
|
Ferrari something-or-other, from last week. Not sure what model. Maybe not so rare, but...
Speaking of the Bentley Continental, I was following one the other day, a silver one with dealer plates. It seemed more fancy than sporty, looks expensive. It just seems so stupid to have a Bentley in Michigan, with the saltspray winters, and the shitty, potholed streets. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lown/Ferr2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lown/Ferr1.jpg It sounded nice and strong. And LOUD. edit: lol, I just looked at the license plate. I guess that would be what model Ferrari it is...year, too  |
In North Scottsdale you can usually see a Ferrari or a Lamborghini if you drive around. You'll see a lot more during spring training time because of the influx of millionaires. I love how those things sound. Things that are much more rare are the NSX, Bentlies, and Rolls Royce. There is a Ferrari dealership in southern Scottsdale so you can see tehm a lot there but those don't really count since they are on test drives.

Anyways, I saw a Shelby Series One a few months ago in Philly. Really funky looking car (not in a good way). |
Quite annoying I was coming back from work at around 4ish, and as soon as i get off the exit ramp I pulled up next to a 360 spyder. The annoying part wasn't the car, it was the driver who looked no older than maybe 19 or 20. I hope he is greatful for what he has cause it is one hell of an impressive car.
|
Quote:
1. It was slightly over 8,000 DeLoreans that were produced. 2. There is no such "shiny-bodied V8 Back to the Future Model". Every DeLorean made had a V6, every model had the same Stainless Steel Body, with the exception of 3 cars, which were made from GOLD. That is all |
|
A very carefully parked A-M DB7 Volante. Mmmmm! You dancing?
|
I knew when I took the photo that you would know this one. :) :)
BTW, just made my reservations for Lake Tahoe in January. They got a foot of fresh earlier this week. Shhhweeeeet. |
I once saw a Nissan Skyline. One of my favorite cars. Didn't see where the guy was from, but I almost had a wreck just staring at it.

It wasn't driving the streets but I saw the new Ford GT at the local dealer a couple days ago. Sweet!
|
I saw a Noble M12 on the freeway in Akron, OH a couple weeks ago. Most folks in the US have probably never heard of it. It's a "low end" supercar from England, available here as a kit of sorts. Very very fast.
Check out http://www.1gracing.com for more info I also saw a Gallardo and a new Elise on the same stretch of freeway. |
Saw a Ferrari 360 Modena while I was walking along 18th street last night. Beautiful car, but it doesn't shake the ground like my mom's cousin's Shelby Series 1.. no siree.
|
There are 5 or 6 unimogs in my town. Theres a used car dealer that buys them at auction and sells them for 9k. God I wish I had 9k.
|
saw the ford gt today parked in a crappy condo's parking lot was suprising seeing it next to a bunch of old cadilacs
|
lotus elise....didnt even know they we out yet
|
I don't know if it's rare in Europe, but I had never seen a Vauxhall VX220 before.. and I saw one the other day in Helsinki.
http://www.bergoiata.org/fe/voiture-...er%20VX220.jpg |
Saw a 355 Spyder on a back road in Ohio. Saw a Fairlady 350 Z (not that rare I guess) and a 50s Porsche 911 in Lexington last week.
|
i saw a Lamborghini (sp?) on my way home from work a couple weeks ago. i took pictures of it with my camera phone, but attatchments aren't allowed in this thread. :-( i didn't know what kind it was, so i had to wait until i got home and checked it out on the net. it was the Diablo VT 6.0 litre. omg it sounded so freaking sweet. i had to turn my music off and roll down my windows (even though it was like 36 degrees outside) just so i could listen to it. almost gave me a hard on. :-)
|
I saw one of the new Saleen S281's in front of an Italian restaurant last week. It was damn hot looking. Everything was "tastefully raced up" from the front air dam to the middle exit exhaust in the rear.
|
Ok is it me or is nobody else amazed by the size of the rear wheels on the Pantera?? gooood god maybe its just the pic but those things look huggeee
|
Last weekend my father-in-law took me and my SO and my momsie-in-law to the Masserati/ferarri dealership in Greensboro, NC... So I got to drool over some of those, and my god, I creamed my pants just looking at them! Martel doesn't get the high end car thing, but by god, I've been salivating over a Lamborghini Diablo ever since I was six or so... and Aston Martin has this awesome black metallic glitter paint job that is just the sexiest thing EVER.
Anyway, in my old apartment complex, a guy owned a baby blue Rolls... actually in Ashvegas I see rolls about once every month or so... Tom Cruise has a house around here somewhere... oh, and one day, on my way to work, I saw a red ferrari go zooming by, which almost made me crash cause my jaw hit the floor, I mean, A FERRARI? HERE?? |
I saw a Lotus Elise on the Lower Eastside of Manhattan.... NJ plates on the thing... much smaller than I thought...
|
I saw a black Elise downtown last weekend. There is also a navy blue one that runs around Lincoln Park too. Those babies are gorgeous to look at!
|
on the way up to Vancouver BC yesterday i saw a Shelby mustang (couldnt tell if replica or not but i was guessing so) and a ferrari something. on the way back saw the same kind of ferrari leaving seattle
|
I've seen a yellow type-r integra. I'm not really sure of that is really rare. I've also seen an rx-7 only once in my life.
|
I was driving around the other day, and I saw one of these. Not particularly cool or anything, but I believe only 10,000 were made, and I've never seen one on the road before
