Abs Diet Thread
I know a few People here are on this diet. I just started it myself, had a few questions, and I would like to see if it worked for anyone.
I just started last week with the new eating habits. I have been doing a shake in the morning (8oz 1% milk, natural peanut butter, GNC whey protien, Banana, ICE, and Flax Seed.) All the recipies in the book for shakes calls for 2 teaspoons of whey powder, but the box says a scoop. Also, it makes 2 8oz servings, What do I do with the other half, I can't exactly take it to work with me. Should I be doing the shake if I'm not working out? If I don't do the shake or, usually I have the shake at 6am around 9 I'll have eggwhites/mozz cheese/turkey on whole wheat. For a snack I'm doing almonds and/or strawberries, banana maybe some PB on a slice of whole wheat with banana.. Lunch has been consisting of a roast beef sand, tuna on whole wheat pita, or left over meat from last nights dinner. I have been trying alot of the recipies in both abs diet books and doing pretty well so far although it's only been a week and I can't expect to see results thus far. My Physical Therapist doesent want me lifting weights while I'm being treated for a minor back problem. Should I be eating this way even I'm not working out? Some days I feel like I have gained fat.. so. I'm a little confused about that part. The best thing so far is never being hungry. Overall I like the layout of this diet cause I can have a slice of vegitabe pizza and know what to eat when I'm forced to eat out.. Who else is on this program?

Abs diet? Do you mean a diet that will help one gain exposure of their abdominals? If you do, then eating that much will definately hinder your progress. The problems that people usually have with abs is getting rid of that layer of fat between their abs and their skin. Some people also think that if they work their abs enough they will just peek through that fat, this however, is wrong. As for the gaining weight part you are probably gaining more muscle-weight (if you are working out that is). As you probably know muscle-weight is heavier that fat-weight. If you are not working out, well, then I would reccomend cutting back on the eating. On days that I dont work out I usually dont eat too much either (eccept for breakfast). This advice is good if you are trying to stay fit and trim; if you are trying to gain some mass muscle weight then stay right on what you are doing. You might end up with a gut by the time you are done though, especially if you persist in abstaining from working out some days.

i think to have nice abs u really just need to get ur body fat % down to 8-10%.....
so as long as u watch what you eat and work out and a lil help of good genes u should be able to obtain ur goal.... personally i enjoy shitty food to much to get down to that % of body fat.....but i work out 3-5 times a week.......even when i worked out harder than im going now the lowest i got was 16 % body fat...... |

Don't eat like that if you can't exercise. If you want to see your abs without exercise, fats, carbs and protien will serve less of a purpose. The abs diet is specifically intended to accompany and compliment a good exercise program. If you can't exercise, don't do an exercise based diet program.
Eat an apple (/pear/orange/grapefruit/etc.) and one cup (an actual cup, not whatever amount of milk fills your particular container) of nonfat vitamin enriched milk. Drink plenty of water bewteen breakfast and lunch. For lunch have a small sandwich with nonfat meat and notfat cheese, with some fresh veggies like lettuce, spinach, tomato, and such. With that have some water. Drink plenty of water between lunch and dinner, but don't snack. If you absolutely HAVE to snack, take some walnuts and raisens. I know it sounds gross, but after maybe a day they'll be delicious. For dinner make a salad with no dressing (do not use low carb/low fat dressing, as it is more unhealthy than regular dressing) and if you want, add some chicken or fish. No crutons. Try to get as much variation in the veggies of the salad as possible. Don't starve yourself, but eat until your full and stop until your next meal. Do not splurge. The abs diet is intended for someone who has a good solid exercise program to burn off all the fats and carbs you take in. Without the exercise, that potential energy becomes fat to be stored for later use. That's why you are gaining fat. Have you ever looked at the nutrition facts on the peanutbutter container? Mine has 17g of fat per serving (1 serving = 32 grams) and 3.5g SATURATED fat. That means more than half of the peanut butter you are eating is fat, and more than 1/10 is saturated. That is ETREMLY unhealthy. The only reason you see diets contain peanutbutter is because you'll be burning iot off with strenuous exercise later, so you don't have to worry as much about it becoming fat. If you have back problems, you might consider a sitting treadmill. You always must exercise. The only excuse for not exercising is amputation or parilization. I hope I was helpful, and best luck on the diet |

Hm.. Thanks for the insight... I had a feeling there was something wrong... I'm just gonna have to start going back to the gym. Heck.. I'm paying my Physical Thrapist for something right? But Once I start working out again you think I can eat like described above?

Sure! You have to replace what you burn off exercising. If you strenusly exercise more than, say, an hour and a half a day, then you're good to go on the 'abs diet'. To be sure, are you male or female? What's your build? Do you know that a true diet is for the rest of your life? That's a good reason to pick a good diet.
