ZMA Supplement
I've returned to working out again for the past year (I'd fallen apart since college), but I've really only been going about it right since April. I've lost abbout 60 pound since last November, but seem to have hit a wall and haven't lost since May. Also, I seem to get burned out a bit quicker when working out than I had been a couple of months ago. I just took 3 weeks off and have been back to it for 2 weeks (this is week three), but someone at the club suggested I start using ZMA before going to bed at nite to help my muscles recover for the next day and to help me sleep ( I also have trouble sleeping. I get about 8 hours, but wake several times during the nite).
I've tried to find some info about ZMA online, but keep finding sites selling it and I don;t know how truthful that info is if their trying to sell the stuff. SO, after the long explanation, does anyone know what it does, and/or how it should be taken. How often? When? etc. Thanks ![]() |

First off, CONGRATS on losing 60 LBS
![]() Go to your local nutrition or vitamin store and talk to them about L-Glutamine. That is what you will be wanting to take for repair, and I am sure they will agree with me. |

Well, actually 60 lbs is a rounded number. I'm just under 6'1 and did weigh about 375. I'm donw to 318 as of yesterday when I weighed before working out. I've been around the 320 range for a couple of months and that is pretty much where I have been for 10 years (since high school). I'm naturally a very large person, I started wearing my dad's clothes when I was in the 5th grade and weighed about 250 then.
As far as my eating, I don't take in a lot of calories (considering my weight), but I think it's what I eat. I've always been very picky. I can;t eat most vegetables becuase I gag and I don't eat red meat becuase I just don;t like the taste. I eat a lot of chicken and turkey (and too much pizza and doritos). I've pretty much cut out pop (except for every once in awhile when I CRAVE a Coke) and I quit alcohol last winter. I've stepped up my workouts recently from just 4 days a week to 5 or more with the same intensity. I weight train just 2 days a week and do atleast 30 minutes cardio (stationary bike or treadmill) 3 times a week. Then, I either golf or play basketball over the weekend. I've always been active, I played 3 sports through high school and then played football and tennis in college (I can't imagine what guys thought when they walked out onto the court with me at 320 lbs. It was probably even worse when I beat them.) SO even though I'm huge I'm not really as out of shape as I look. I'm just trying to get over this hump in my weight loss, I'd love to get under 300 lbs. Thanks again on any help you can give. ![]() |

One of the strangest things about losing weight is being able to understand that eating barely anything a day is far worse then eating 6 small meals a day. What happens when you don't keep that metabolism going is that your body goes into "starvation mode" and it holds on to that precious fat for energy, and starts using important things like muscle to live off of.
You said that you enjoy pizza and doritos, well, those days need to stop ![]() If you were to limit all the carbs that you eat by restricting them to only morning and afternoon (making sure that you get no carbs for dinner untill the next morning)... that along with drinking a lot of water a day (shoot for a gallon if possible) and kicking the sodas, doritos, and other crap you are putting into your belly and getting a little cardio exercise in, I would say you will lose about 10 + lbs in the first 2 weeks. Keep it up, and you will be looking great and like a completely new person by next summer when its time to walk around without a shirt again. If you get on a plan, make sure to document all of your progress. That is very motivational in keeping at it, because it ain't easy. Best of luck to you, and post about your weight loss weekly! Okay, baby steps. I'm trying to limit my intake of the pizza and doritos type of stuff. I've been doing really good, that's how I've been able to loose much of the weight. But now that football season is here, Sundays are going to be a trial. I did pretty good this week - I didn't have any beer or pop, and I only had 1 peice of pizza. IT was tough though. It's a constant fight.

It is always a fight. I lost 100 pounds years ago and have kept most of it off, but it is a struggle and at times you'll lose that fight. But when you do just shrug it off and get back on track. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouraging words.
It will be easier for me just because of the change in my state of mind. Atleast now, whenever I eat something I think about it. Sometimes I still eat something I shouldn;t, but atleast I don;t just sit donw and start eating without giving any thouhgt to everything I'm shoving in my face. |
