4:59 when i was 15 and on the high school track team. i was also on cross-country and was able to run the three mile in 18 minutes. not the greatest, but what the hell.

i'm 27 now, have smoked for many years, and am highly out of shape after having had a desk job for a long time.

sure it was a treadmill. but I did it frequently enough that it was actually quite accurate. Also I should note out that the weightroom at my highschool was top notch. Those Treadmills were in great shape.

I hit about 5:50 ish for a mile, but that hurts. I'm a little out of shape at the moment and if I go for it I can do it in about 6:10. Never timed it on an outdoor run, but I would imagine that would be quicker as I don't have to wait for the treadmil to get up to the correct speed.

I'm about to start training for a triathalon next year, would have done it this year but I tore my ankle ligaments so I'm hoping to knock my fastest time down to the mid 5 minutes if not faster.

Just remember that a treadmill mile is not an accurate representation of your mile-running ability. On a treadmill, one only needs to move his leg forward, the belt pushes your leg back for you. Therefore, there is no "pushing" of your weight, which is where half the work is.

4:05 is my best if I recall correctly. 10K mile pace in peak shape was 5:05 per. These days my pace is much slower as my run is usually preceded by a swim and a bicycle ride.

I did a mile just under 6:00, maybe 5 and a quarter, and that was maybe 3rd or 4th best in the grade. I was in soccer then. You guys with sub 5:00s are freaky! =p

Only ever did one as fast as possible (at the gym). I weighed a bit (200+ lb), managed the 1500 in about 6 minutes - it was on a treadmill, and it wouldn't go any faster. Managed to keep up a conversation all the way through as well.

Never tried since. Should get back into it.

As for my workout. I do 2 miles in 28 minutes 30 seconds. I am trying to beat my time everytime i run. This is very good for me so far. Setting goals to go farther faster is a good thing :>

I haven't time myself running a mile since about 6th grade or so... That was 7 years ago. If I remember correctly my time was a little below 8 minutes. I wonder how fast I could run one now... Hmm.

I'm running 8:30 miles or so right now. I'm training for the Army, so I'm trying to get my miles down to about 6 or so. Shouldn't be too hard....

Well, used to be a nationally ranked track and cross country runner. In 7th grade I ran a 4:54 mile, high school I got it down to a 4:16, by the end of college I ran a 3:52 1500 and a 4:09 miler, but steeplechase is where it was at!!!

That is a good post...

...for the philosophy forum.

For me, my record is 5:30. I'm probably around 6:30 right now, but I'm training hard currently (just joined the Army ROTC so have to get in shape. I'm not in bad shape, but not nearly where I want to be).

I think it was a 11-12 minute mile in high school.

I'm doing 1.5mi in 11min right now. Definitely want to improve on that.
