What the hell
Today when I came home from work I said hi to someone who was walking out, he was black, and he said back to me "You only said hi because i'm black" WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT I say hi to most people I pass, his statement made NO SENSE to me. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

i think a lot of repressed minorities often feel that the world is personally against them, or something. when it's not always the case.

I'd say "No, I said hi because you work here"
But then he'd probably just go with "So if I wasn't working here, you'd just ignore me because I'm black!?" And then I'd get arrested for supposed "hate crimes" and be somebody's buttslut for 14 months...

He could have just been messing with your head on purpose. I've seen that.
Also, if he was actually serious, consider how screwed up he is. He's just told you, "The only reasons a white person would ever be nice to me was because they had guilt about the wrongs done to my people." Like, he couldn't conceive of the idea that you might like _him_ for himself alone? He sort of accused you not of seeing him as a person, but as a black person. But by doing so with no real knowledge of your own thoughts, he treated dehumanized _you._ He didn't see you, he saw a white person. He tries that again, tell him the problem is his. |

Has anybody really heard about some REAL racism lately? I mean the kind where a shopkeeper refuses to sell to any ethnic race? I know I haven't in a looong time. All of this is such bs, people are goanna make distinctions in color and race no matter what, it's just how we act on them that makes it important.

As long as the government, and various organizations, are doing their best to make sure the racial barrier stands strong and reaches far, some people will continue to be this way. The more you enforce racial equality, when its not meant to be enforced anymore, the more apparent racial division becomes.
Sorry about your experience. Its not unique, nor is it the last. I personally just ignore comments like that.

Yeah when he said that I just shrugged and walked to my apartment, the WHAT THE part was in my head. I'm pretty calm all the time, i've NEVER been in a fight except in a controlled situation (taken martial arts) When ever someone tries to pick one i just let whatever they say fly right by me. I don't know if this guy was looking for a fight but i wasn't about to give him one.

If you saw the look on his face you would know he wasn't. I've seen him several times he always looks angry. To me he portrays a Hater.

What really gets me is when minorities act rudely in public, moreso than white people, and then use racism as an excuse if anyone says anything to them. At my college, our entire cafeteria is quiet. The "black in-group" will walk in and start throwing food and yelling/screaming obscenities at people and laugh and point at white people as they walk by. If you don't want to be singled out in racism, then don't give a reason to be. And overall, do NOT use your skin color to your advantage, or as an excuse. If everyone could simply get along and accept the fact that we're all the same then this shit wouldn't happen. That's not going to happen as long as the fucking rednecks and downtown urbans keep up the fight against each other. -Lasereth

Really, the best thing you could have done is just walk away. Sometiems people do some pretty strange things. If it contineus to bother you I would sugest maybe confronting the guy and sitting him down and expressing how much what he said kinda "irked" you...

You know, if he tries to pull that shit again, ask him if he'd rather you were mean to him. Ask him if he doesn't appreciate friendliness. Ask him why he should care if he's getting something good out of the deal. (It sucks to get things for the wrong reasons, yes, but every once in a while if it's something this piddly we just need to be reminded that it wasn't like a punch in the nose or anything.)

It's simpler than this idiot - and that's a racially-neutral term, mind you! - hating based upon race. Obviously this guy has tremendous insecurities and possibly feelings of inferiority, and uses the "race" card as a crutch or as a blame device.
Avoid the moron (another neutral term), it's not worth dealing with these whiny types....and I don't care WHAT race they are, because: An asshole looks the same no matter whose it is! These whiny types just happen to have a REALLY BIG ASSHOLE that takes up their entire body.... |

I would continue saying "hi" to people. If you say it to him again and he says the same thing then maybe say "no, I'm sorry, you are mistaken. I say hi to people all the time regardless of race. I am not racist and I do not appreciate being insulted - especially in response to a friendly greeting". Then just walk away.
