He could have just been messing with your head on purpose. I've seen that.
Also, if he was actually serious, consider how screwed up he is. He's just told you, "The only reasons a white person would ever be nice to me was because they had guilt about the wrongs done to my people." Like, he couldn't conceive of the idea that you might like _him_ for himself alone?
He sort of accused you not of seeing him as a person, but as a black person. But by doing so with no real knowledge of your own thoughts, he treated dehumanized _you._ He didn't see you, he saw a white person.
He tries that again, tell him the problem is his.
