Cut out the starch from your diet i.potatoes, white rice ,pasta, white bread etc.,as well as refined sugars ,as far as you plateauing ,you need to change it up at the gym, one's body gets used to doing the same thing over and over ,so change is essential.

I went into turbo mode. My work has a gym so me and a coworker work out twice a day for 20 minutes (as much as we can without sweating). Plus I also go to my membership gym 3 times a week so I'm going 13 times a week. During work I do bicep curls and a lot of upper body workouts plus squats.
So far, in the past 4 months I've went from being able to do 0 pushups to 20. I've never in my life been able to do even a quarter of a pushup (even in high school) and now I can do 20 with perfect form. I went from 15 pounds on the bicep curls to 30 pounds and now the 15 pound weight feels like a banana ha ha ha ha. It's amazing what you can do with yourself if you try hard. A year ago I was 275 pounds with a fatal BMI and now I am proud of my body (even though the Geneti-Gut remains). Screw fast food, eating out, and victim-minded commercials to get people to "indulge themselves" in 2500 calorie meals. It's so pathetic how eating right is cheap if you know what you're doing but people don't want to see it. I can't imagine my life still being like it was last year...I was so bad off. Being that fat and out of shape makes life miserable. I beg anyone who is in that position to start (and KEEP AT IT) making a lifestyle change. Yes it sucks (I went the first 4 months without losing any weight, even though I went from 5000+ calories per day to 1000 a day) but once your body gets over the starvation mode and you start working out it gets awesome. |

That is great to hear. I have lost about 60 lbs myself over the past 10 months. I lost sight for a few months during that time and i am pissed at myself because i could be that much closer to my goal. Been back to the gym now for about 6 weeks now and back on track. Still have about 35 more pounds to lose. Eating healthy and staying away form crap like HFCS and Trans fats can take you only so far. Need to work out and feel good about it.
The best way i have found as a motivator to go to the gym 4 times a week is to talk to and make friends with the women there. Keeps you going back. Really does feel great to lose all that weight. |

One thing to note (may have been mentioned, but I only skim read), is that focussing exercises on the area you want to lose fat in, to my knowledge does not increase fat loss in that area.
Fat loss is relevant to your whole body and is not area-specific. |

In general, though I would not recommend that sort of "spot focusing". I am of the camp that believes alternating a few of your strength training sessions with intensive cardio would be the best way of working off fat in problem areas. Additionally, I also want to suggest you take a day or two off a week without going to the gym. That's solely for strength training and toning purposes, but you muscles need some time off to recover and tone. I'm sure you know that muscle building is essentially the tearing of muscles and the resulting scarring causes muscle growth. Without Giving the muscles time to scar and "heal" before going back and doing it all over again, you are not getting the full benefits from your work outs.

It's quite possible you've hit a plateau, it happens all the time. I'm at mine right now, or I was before I got sick and did a bunch of other things that forced me to cut back on workouts.
Make sure you're changing your routine and your exercises. Also change up your food but make sure it's healthy. You can do all the sit ups you want but you're not going to lose your gut until you're eating healthy and your total body fat drops. And the gut will usually be the last to go. Try eating 5-6 meals a day. Small meals, make sure you're still staying within your caloric needs. I'd shoot for 2,000 HEALTHY calories and give it more than a couple weeks. Make sure you're keeping up on your cardio also, how intense is your cardio and how often do you do it? Do you know what your heart rate is at? The best way to measure your cardio workout is by heart rate. And the best way to have a great effect is by using HIIT (google it).
