Below is a German essay about my family. I was needing some help in proof reading it to catch grammar and spelling mistakes or to just tell me that something doesn't make any sense. Please help! Thank you!

Meine Familie ist klein, aber sie sind sehr wichtig. Meine Groβeltern sind besonderes wichtig, weil sie sehr verschieden als ich sind. Als ich jung war, sah ich meine Groβeltern nicht so oft. Für viel Jahre, wohnten meine Groβmutter und mein Groβvater auf einem Bauernhof in Missouri. Wir besuchten meine Groβeltern am Feiertage und diese Besuche waren immer interessant. Meine Groβmutter unterrichtet mich zu kochen. Als sie jung war, tötete sie Schweine und Hühner. Sie kochte diese Tiere und und zog sie ihren Kindern ein.
Mein Groβvater war sehr sehr ruhig. Er schrieb immer Kreuzworträtsel und er sah immer fern. Obwohl er ruhig war, sprach mein Groβvater über sein Leben. Er sagte, „Als ich jung war, traf ich Sally Rand. Sally Rand war eine sehr schöne Tänzerin . Manchmal tanzte sie ohne ihre Kleidung! Sally war bekannt, aber sie war meine Nachbarin. Wenn sie starb, nannten sie eine Straβe ‚Sally Rand Road’.“ Meine Groβmutter heiratet mein Groβvater in neunzehnhundertachtunddreiβig und sie waren zusammen bis meinen Groβvater starb diese Sommer.
Als mein Groβvater starb, zog meine Groβmutter auf Tulsa, Oklahoma ein. Jetzt sie wohnt mit meiner Mutter und meinem Stiefvater. Meine Groβmutter ist sehr alt, aber sie ist sehr intelligent. Sie sprecht über meinen Groβvater sehr oft und ich denke es hilft ihr. Während des Tag näht sie Tücher und Kleidung für ihre Familie und Freunde. Ihre Kunst ist sehr schön und beachtlich. Wenn ich nach Tulsa zu besuchen fahre, spreche meine Groβmutter über das Leben meines Groβvater. Ich denke, dass diese Geschichten ihr glücklicher machen. Weil meine Groβmutter so alt ist (sie ist sechtsundachtzig Jahre alt), ist sie verrückt. Wenn sie nicht näht, seht sie meine Katze an. Meine Katze geht drauβen und nach innen. Meine Groβmutter schreibt die Uhr, dass Penelope (meine Katze) drauβen und nach innen geht. Dies ist merkwürdig.
Als schluβfolgerung spielen meine Groβmutter und mein Groβvater wichtige Rolle für mich. Mein Groβvater war ein gute Mann. Er arbeitet sehr schwer, um ein gutes Leben für seine Familie zu geben. Er war sehr intelligent und er war nicht egoistisch. Diese Qualitäten sind gut und ich muss diese Qualitäten erzielen. Meine Groβeltern unterrichten mir Liebe, weil ihre Ehe sehr lang war. Sie waren loyal. Sie sind tolle Rolle Modelle für alles.

I won't give any specific advice, since this looks a lot like a homework assignment, and I know I wouldn't want my students getting this sort of help off of the internet, but some general tips.

1. Watch adjective/noun and subject/verb agreement. S/V is generally okay, but you make a few mistakes.

2. Some of your sentences are missing Indirect Objects.

3. Masculine and neuter nouns in the genitive need an -s or -es added on to the end.

4. The following words are wrong: toeten (as in "Als sie jung war, toetete sie..."), Schlussfolgerung, and Rolle Modelle. Leo.de is your friend.

5. And it's "Hilf mir", not helfe mir. You make a few similar mistakes with strong verbs throughout.

it's good, but you've fallen into a common trap that i often do by putting lots of descriptive sentances in, but not really letting them flow.
for instance when you first describe your grandmother as both very smart and old, try throwing in something like 'my grandmother is as old as she is smart', it takes a bit of dictionary work to get it worded, but examiners love it when you use english phrases in german, instead of just reeling off sentance after sentance.

It does depend on what level class you're in. I would never expect first-semester students to do much more stylistically than what you've done here, trashley, and wouldn't expect much more from second semester students. I usually tell my students not to try and do anything they don't know how to do; while I love it when they suceed, much more often they fail.

I could have that translated completely and 100% correct for ya but I think that would make your teacher somewhat suspicious so just follow the great advise/tips the others gave
