ok, ok. Does anyone want to trade toons? I have a mage on a PvE server (elune) that I just don't play anymore. I would be willing to trade for a Priest or a Warrior or Pally with comparable gear. Just throwing that out there. If anyone is interested, send a PM and we can work out the details, if this is not allowed in my thread, then mods please delete.

Hello everyone, I'm currently trying out WoW due to that 10 day free trial. I normally play Guild Wars but its kinda been wearing thin lately. So far WoW is looking pretty good.
A couple questions though A) why does my display screen look so different than the ones I see in raid vids? Is it because I haven't joined a guild or been in a party yet? B) Whats the cheapest place to buy a subscription at? I think I'd like to try out the game for more than just the intitial 10 day period they give.

Most people who raid use different GUIs for WoW, so their screen will look completely different than the average screen. I'm one of the few people who play WoW that use the default interface...I can't stand any of the UI mods. WoW is designed so that users can completely tear apart anything they want on the custom game screen and make it exactly how they want. It's rare to see two modded interfaces exactly the same.

You can safely, happily and easily get to level 60 mod-free and you can really do all of the 5 man dungeons at 60 without any mods and never really know the difference. When you start raiding, there are a few mods that are all but required for purposes of keeping track of the raid and the various events the occur during boss fights so guilds often force you to dl one or two. At least for me, once I had one or two mods, I suddenly wondered what would happen if I had 3 or 4, then 9 or 10. The blizzard interface really isn't all that bad, it's just very space-inefficient. I want to see what's going on. I want to see my environment. Getting rid of all the extra art that clutters the action bars and map and unit frames and moving them did wonders for my ability to enjoy watching the game happen around me.
It's pretty much a personal preference, though. Grats to Encore on Loatheb. Now you just have to go play with horsies! Last edited by Frosstbyte; 12-01-2006 at 02:23 PM.. |

Also another quick question (and I know this is gonna sound really noob-ish to a lot of you) As an alliance member, can I only randomly bitch-smack horde? or can I vent my rage on lower level alliance people too? and I mean just walking up to them and attacking, none of the duel stuff.

This will also sound noobish, but being that I'm fairly noob lvl, I can take the hit:
Are there any guilds out there for people who aren't already lvl 60? I'm used to playing GW, where there are always guild invites and in WoW, I rarely see any, and if I do, it's gotta be lvl 60. Any suggestions?

the guild recruitment channel has people looking for guilds in it. I logged on my mule the other day lvl 1, and someone sent me an invite to another guild so I joined, there were 3 members all under 20.

New WOW player. Was an EQ1 Veteran and played though the end game of Planes of Power before calling it quits for good. I played EQ2 and didn't really get into it. I held off on playing anything for the past couple years. My friends kept telling WOW is different and that I will really like it. So far they were not wrong. Its different but I am enjoying it.
That said. I am a newb. and there are alot of things that I am getting used to. Is it needed at lower levels I am lvl 10, to group? I haven't found this to be an issue thus far and I find that the quests that I have been doing have really helped lvl rather than just the grind of kill kill kill kill mobs over and over! I have 2 proffessions that I seem to enjoy. Skinning and Herbalism.

You can solo all the way to level 60 with any class. Or you can group at really any level. You'll need to group to do elite quests most of the time, and dungeon quests.. but regular quests can all be done solo.
Grouping and going into instances is the best way to get loot as you level. And when you log out you'll want to sit your character in an inn or inside a major city so you will get rested exp while you're offline to help you level faster.

Ah patch day. I have been having a thrilling time trying to get all my mods updated and working again. THRILLING!
On the plus side, I can pump out some serious burst damage now with three instant shots. Arcane->multi->silencing is a delicious combination, especially against pesky priests, shamans and mages. Having a second interrupt makes a huge difference when fighting casters, you can't even beleive it. |

I'm just now learning how to pvp with my hunter... I've got a long ways to go. I don't know if I can keep it up long enough to earn any of that gear.

I'm undecided on whether to roll a Blood Elf Rogue or Warlock when the expansion releases. Probably going to go with Warlock though since I've never played a pure caster class. I've played a Shaman & Warrior at 60 in PvP.

As a hunter, I specced 1 / 41 / 9 just to try out a 41 point talent.
Its not as great as I thought but I'll hold onto it until I hit 70 and then see what it will be like. I still own clothies with one or two shots, even with their new builds.. Suxx to have every frigging shot on a 5+ sec cooldown..

I'm loving my hunter in the new patch, at least in pvp. I kill mages and warlocks with ease now. Druids are tough if they are feral and rogues/warriors are easy if I can kite them. Hunters mark, scatter shot, aimed shot, silencing shot, arcane shot, multishot dead.
PvE is going to take some getting used to though. I've only been on one raid so far but I run out of mana so quick. My mana never has a chance to regen with arcane shot on a 5 second cooldown and multishots mana cost was increased 50%. Next time I'll try using rank 1 for both, rank 1 arcane shot only costs 22 mana yet still does a fair amount of damage.

I love the new mage frost talents. Wish I could say the same for my Holy/Disc Priest. Resto Druids outheal us with Tree of GG. I might want to go Shadow again, maybe I will have some viability in raids now.
