This?
No. That's on top of Mauna Kea. I don't know what to say about Waimea Bay. Definitely not the one in the Beach Boys song, and i'm not finding it on maps of the Big Island. Waimea itself wouldn't be a bad guess, but it's not where i am. Last edited by guyy; 02-08-2009 at 07:35 AM.. |

The Waipio valley is beautiful, but that's not where i am now.
It might be faster to figure out what i'm looking at and then try to guess where i could be looking from. Maybe you're already doing it, but check out my view and the view from the top of Mauna Kea. I'm not there, but the photographer and i were looking in more or less the same direction. Last edited by guyy; 02-08-2009 at 09:59 AM.. |

not there.
This small town cinema has nothing to do with solving the puzzle, but it made me wish i had stopped in Honokaa: I'm going to have to go back and catch a movie there someday. And crap! I missed this one in Hilo too: Last edited by guyy; 02-08-2009 at 11:47 AM.. |

I don't think you're here since it's in Narberth PA not Hawaii....though I'm starting to get suspicious. But if you're ever around this area, stop in to our local little movie theater in Narberth PA, a couple blocks down from my house.

nope, not waikii
-----Added 8/2/2009 at 05 : 13 : 13----- Yeah, i can see Maui. That's Haleakala and the clouds on the lee side of Maui. This place makes lots of top ten lists. It's also probably the cheapest place to stay in the area. Last edited by guyy; 02-08-2009 at 03:01 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Even if i stood on a honu, Hualalai would block my view of Haleakala. Also, we'd be off the shortest route from the summit of Mauna Kea to Puako. So no, i'm not there.
I could see it from up high, but we've established that i'm not on a Mauna Kea. Waimea and Waikii are kinda high up, but i'm not in those places. Where else am i going to have good views across the channel? Unlike this guy, i'm not in the channel nor am i being assisted by a honu in any way Last edited by guyy; 02-08-2009 at 07:42 PM.. |

No, but you're on the right road.
I was looking at a crappy map and forgot about Waikoloa Rd. Don't take it! Saddle Rd. & 19 are nicer drives. Are you sure that's the Waimea on the big island? That looks more like Waimea on Oahu. As you can guess by the picture, Waimea on the big island is pretty dry. It does get lots great rainbows: Last edited by guyy; 02-08-2009 at 08:06 PM.. |

You're right, I have been seeing a lot of rainbows during my search. But I'm still searching.
How about Kohala? I'm pleased to learn that it is thought to be the oldest volcano making up the Hawaiin Islands. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kohala_(mountain) |

No, we'd be straying off the path again if we headed up to Kohala. And as you've seen, there is only grass, cattle, and rainbows below Waimea. I'm not anywhere between the coast and Waimea. That doesn't leave much left for guessing.
Kohala is the oldest on Hawai'i, yes, but as you go Northwest in the chain, the age of the volcanoes increases. Kauai is 5 million years old, Kohala about half a million. USGS page on Hawaiian volcanoes. To sum up, this is what you guys have it narrowed down to: Last edited by guyy; 02-09-2009 at 09:43 AM.. |

Are you at the Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site?
Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic Site is a United States National Historic Site located on the northwestern coast of the island of Hawai'i. The site preserves the National Historic Landmark ruins of Pu'ukoholā Heiau ("Temple on the Hill of the Whale"). This temple was built by King Kamehameha the Great between 1790 and 1791 on the site of an older temple to gain the favor of the war god Kuka'ilimoku. In the middle of 1791, he sacrificed his chief rival Keoua at this temple, allowing him to unite all of Hawaii. A visitor center operated by the National Park Service is located at the site. An interpretive trail begins at the visitor center and leads to the ruins of Pu'ukoholā. |
