I'm going to jump on the Bondwagon here and say that it was a really, super, incredible movie. It could have held up on it's own as an action movie WITHOUT the Bond name- and adding Bond to it made it even better!
And Daniel Craig... to me, he's the way Bond should be- the Bond in the books. Plus, he's quite dashing

Holy crap. This makes every other Bond movie look like a kid's movie. Screw the people who say Sean Connery is the only good Bond or the best Bond -- Craig is better. This movie is so far above and beyond the regular Bond movies that the rest aren't even comparable.
1. Daniel Craig is amazing as Bond. 2. No CGI and real action scenes = real emotion. Go see this movie. It's the best Bond movie ever made, and I've seen all but 1 of them (the last one).

I do have to say that I was pleasently surprised by this movie, because once the plot was set up, they actually stayed reasonably close to the book.
That being said, there was one part that annoyed me, not with the movie, but with the audience. Spoiler: When Bond says, "The job is done, the bitch is dead." And produced a rather vocal response from the audience. I just wanted to shout at the theater, "Read the damn book!"

Spoiler: Speaking of Felix Leiter... I am glad he is alive again. He has always been one of my favourite minor characters in the series.

Just saw it with JustJess, quadro2000, ubertuber, abaya and ktspktsp. I am totally satisfied.
Spoiler: The only thing that caught me off guard was the scenes after Le Chiffre was killed. It was almost surreal. Bond wakes up and all of a sudden his girl is in love with him (I know, I know) and the dude he pegged before suddenly gets hauled off in front of him. Why was he even there to begin with? I was thinking maybe that whole scene was a drug-induced hallucination concocted to get the password. Apparently not.

I haven't felt this way watching a Bond movie since I was a kid. Really, going back to the begining and reintroducing Bond was a great idea. Daniel Craig is fantastic as Bond - anyone giving this movie a negative review is just doing it to be bitchy.
This was a tough, no-nonsense Bond with excellent action and more characterizaton than seen in most of the previous films. It's a more mature film, that's for sure. The franchise is reborn here.

Wow. I think wow pretty much sums it up. I loved the opening scene. I loved the street-running (or whatever that stuff is called) intro to the main plot line.
About my only dislike was how much the movie dragged Spoiler: between climaxes. After Le Chiffre dies, the plot-insofar as the movie is concerned-seems pretty much wrapped up. The only reason I knew something else was supposed to happen is because the movie kept going, which meant something else had to happen, even though there was absolutely nothing in the movie prior to that point that gave me any clue as to where the plot was supposed to be taking me. I would have liked to see some better editing to tie the fallout from the poker game to Vesper's betrayal. My grilfriend and I both squirmed a bit making it through all the honeymoon scenes. What a great ride, though. Gives me a lot of faith in a series that really looked like it was dying. |

Spoiler: Oh, of course I was curious about it, but its scope clearly could not (and was not) handled by the movie's remaining half hour. Perhaps the flow is more apparent in the book which, admittedly, I have not read. We got a glimmer of a glimpse of what was at stake and at work due to her betrayal, but it certainly didn't answer any of my questions or lay any of my curiosities to rest.

I can't wait to go see this..I guess I can't call myself a true Bond fan, seeing as how I didn't know it was already out, but as some previously said, I agree that Goldeneye was one of the best.
And now that I read how amazed all of you were, I'm planning to see this as soon as possible. |

I finally went to see it last night and it was great! I didn't notice the time I was in there. All the characters were handled really well, and Craig makes an awesome Bond.
The only real quibble I had was a bit at the end when he says that line from the end of the book. In the book, it's a final, cold dismissal of what had happened before, he's over it, he doesn't care now. But in the film there's the added bit where M says "she did it for you, blah, blah, blah" and for me that really took away the coldness of his reactions. And for all those who moan and cringe about the 'honeymoon' scenes, all I can say is read the book.

I just picked it up from the neighborhood supermarket the day it came out. We watched it right away. It's definitely a movie that can stand up to repeat viewings!
And Eva Green is still a gorgeous babe.

I finally watched Casino Royale (in Blu-Ray on my 60" DLP screen) - I will have to say it kicks ass!
I agree this is on par with Sean Connery's Bond. That being said I have only one big gripe ... The only really big disappointment is that they changed Baccarat to "Texas Hold 'em." It may be a small issue to some but it smudged the sheen of elegance for me. I suppose this is an attempt to glamorize the game to boost the online gaming business, perhaps. The game of poker has been filmed more convincingly in countless other films. Casino Royale didn't add anything to that old formula - In fact the portrayal was elementary and contrived to the point of embarrassment. The use of "the tell" as a plot device is a tired one and has been done better in films like, "House of Games" and "The Cincinnati Kid" in which the game is depicted with more complexity, suspense and authenticity. It's not an entirely trivial issue because the whole plot of Casino Royale revolves around that card game. Still, it's not enough to destroy the film for this viewer - I loved everything else about the film.

Congratulations and best of luck to Marc Forster, who will be directing the as-yet unnamed Bond 22, expected to start shooting in December and to hopefully be out November 2008. Forster is best known for directing monster's Ball, Finding Neverland and Stranger Than Fiction, leading me to say, "Huh?"
Daniel Craig is, of course, already attached as Bond, as is Dame Judy Dench and Giancarlo Giannini, Mathis from Casino Royale. |

Yes, this was my first complete vieing of a James Bond film, and it rocked to the point of no return. Cinematically-Superb and Exceptional, though I can sympathize with longbough about the way the game of poker was portrayed. But other than that minor nuance, the film is extraordinary!
Now, I think the rest of my Bond viewing should go from the most recent movies in the catalogue(i.e. Brosnan Bond) until I end with the original film with Connery. I am off to absorb.....

In all fairness to Forster, Campbell hadn't really knocked one out of the park yet either, and definitely not before Goldeneye. So hopefully he can continue to expand upon this "new" style of Bond film, and his added visions won't detract from the great ideas introduced in Casino Royale. And hopefully they will keep the same DP from Royale so that the visuals remain consistent.

Forster is an interesting choice, but so was Nolan for Batman. I've hardly given up hope. I'm more interested to see in what direction the story goes. Still, I'm going to go get Stranger Than Fiction to get an idea of this guy's style.

I watched Casino Royale yesterday for the first time and I personally don't think it was the best Bond ever. In fact, I found it to be a bit slow paced. It didn't keep my attention as much as previous Bond films did either. Also, what happened to the gadgets? I'd give it a 7/10.
And before any of you purists jump my bones - no, I've never read the books. I'm comparing it to the other Bond movies, nothing more.

I only just saw CR this evening. This version of Bond is so superior to the campy Bond's of the past. (I stopped watching them when Moore took the role). I think what everyone is raving about is that it is far more realistic than any of the Bond movies. Bond is flawed, he actually kills people in cold blood, and he isn't the playboy baffoon that mocks 'M' and teases Miss Moneypenny.
I am a fan once again if the franchise continues in this more adult form.
