Im really pumped about the Dawn of the Dead remake!
It comes out the 19th and it looks like it is going to be cool. The first trilogy by Romero was cool, but cram packed with cheese, especially the original Dawn, but this looks far nastier and scarier. I mean, damn, the undead don't shuffle anymore. Now they run you down and eat you alive! How cool is that?

I just hope they don't try to turn it into an action movie. The orignals were almost perfect as is, they just needed a bit better acting and any remake would have been unthinkable. If I have to watch Ving Rhames go Rambo on a bunch of zombies ala House of the Dead, I think I will burn the theatre to the ground. But I can't help but go see a new zombie movie, remake or not. It's a sickness

The first one was pretty good. Not as good as Night of the Living Dead, but not a bad zombie flick.
This one looks like a studio exec over at Universal saw 28 Days Later make some money and decided they needed to put out a zombie movie. Why try something original when they can simply do a remake. This one will suck.

It looked good to me. 'Course, I'm a zombie film lover and I'm easy. For those interested, I saw an ad on tv that they were going to show the first ten minutes of "Dawn of the Dead" at 7 o'clock Central Time Zone on the USA Network, either tonight, or on tomorrow night.

I just picked up the original. It was re-issued on DVD last week. It is one of my all time favorite zombie movies. I will definitely see the new one.
BTW, did anyone watch The Night of the Comet the other night. I forget what channel it was on. Talk about cheezy movies, it was a great spoof on zombie flicks.

AT first I didn't think I was going to see it. But then I got to thinking about it. I liked the original Dawn of the Dead, I like zombies, so why NOT see this movie? I will probably pay for a matinee as NONE of my friends whatsoever have any interest in it.
On a side note here, does anyone else like the slow moving zombies as opposed to the fast ones wh oare more aggressive? I definetely prefer the slow, stupid zombies.

The original is the best zombie film ever made. It is too bad that they are totally destroying it by not having the same characters (no Flyboy? /boggle), having sprinting zombies (wtf?), and worst of all Romero supposedly hated it . Yes I will see it, but I can bet it will not be a good remake of its predecessor.

I've seen both breeds, and I think slow witted, shuffling zombies are much more menacing than the Quick & Undead. The former is an oppressive force that slowly wears down the survivor's resolve, the latter is simply a mob. Plus, the zombies I've seen in previews don't look sufficiently rotten enough to please me.
I'm interested in the new movie, but I don't plan on it stealing the original's place in my heart. I may go see it after I get some word-of-mouth.

Something I learned about the film, in film class is that a lot of people see the mall scene as a sort of social commentary. Stating how we are all zombies in a corprate world. Makes sense to me. I think that part of the movie will be totally lost. Personally, i'll only see it if i hear really good things about it.

I'll see it, maybe in theatre or maybe when the DVD comes out. But the earlier comment about 28 Days Later seems right on target.
My bet is that its better then Resident Evil but worse than 28 Days Later. Of course this means it's no where in the league of the original Dawn...

Well...I caught the sneak preview last night, and I've got to admit, I was wrong. It was a pretty good zombie flick. It took place in a mall, and had a black police officer, but that was about the only resemblance to the original.
There were a couple of interesting new characters introduced and the editing, cinematography and special effects were well used and visually very good.. This movie borrowed several elements from 28 Days Later. Not just the fast zombies. The slow zombies of the original would have improved this movie. They worked in 28 Days but not so much in this movie. Now that I think about it a bit more, the zombies in this film were really kind of pathetic compared to the originals. They lacked the "personality" of the slow zombies. Although there was a scene early on where the fast zomies did add a bit of humor to a scene. There were a couple of disappointing lapses in common sense. Good use of humor throughout. Fans of the original should look for Tom Savini's cameo. Left the movie very satisfied. It has a good "creep" factor in that we all were very jumpy when we left the theater, and it led to the inevitable "what would you do" discussions. Walking alone to my car at midnight, down an unlit suburban neighborhood street, scared the bejeezus out of me. Well, that and when I got home at 12:30 the lights were on in my home and the doors were unlocked. My wife seldom leaves the lights on and never, NEVER leaves the doors unlocked. She was sleeping on the couch. I was a little nervous about waking her because there was that dark part of my subconscious that new if I touched her, her dark eyes would pop open revealing nothing but cloudy white, she would hiss as she lunged at me with an open, bloody mouth. I left her sleeping on the couch, locked the doors and left all the lights on when I went to bed.

OK I saw the original Dawn last night for the first time. I have to say...I'm a fan of horror but...it was just terrible. From the music to the makeup...I mean ok cheesy horror movies are one thing, but ones that are making fun of themselves are just a waste of time.
For some reason I still have high hopes for the remake: tonight! |

Roger Ebert gave it three stars out of four! It sounds like a pretty damn good movie. If I were a fan, I'd definitely be seeing it.

So, I saw it. Solid. The strange flash of sex in the middle is kind of dumb, and a lot of the humor falls flat, unfortunately. The characters are pretty hard to care about, and there isn't that much mounting tension. It's run and gun and gore. Certainly a different film than the original, meant to appeal to a different group. Stick around through the credits, obviously. If anyone could tell me what happens in the last three or four flashes during the credits - I had to leave at that point, unfortunately, after Spoiler: the camera drops to the dock I could hear a few more scenes but didn't see them.

I really enjoyed the film. Sprinting Zombies were fucking nutz. The whole movie was well put toghether. It was a FUN movie for a remake. Action , gore, gun, some great corney humour.
The ending was pretty sweet to. The credits were badass. How many movies have shit happen at the credits? Not many. I really wanted to see the baby fly out and bite that fucker on the neck. :> Anyways go and enjoy the movie for what it is. Gore, Action. But it will never compare to cult classics. Edit: Calling out Celeberties and gunning em down was brilliant. Burt Renyolds looked more like Bruce Cambell thou :> Ash all the way! Few great Chainsaw scenes that were sweet. Standard UB code. Bracket Spoiler bracket, Bracket forward slash Spoiler Bracket. Bracket = [. In other words

Does anyone else see this movie as an unacknowledged sequel to "The Passion"?
Holy smokes! I thought "Enemy at the Gates" had a lot of popping heads. This movie was badass. It reminded me of how it felt to play resident evil for the very first time. The hopelessness, the creepiness, the goriness. All there. |

I saw it last night, and I will admit I am not an authority on zombie movies, but I thought this was entertaining all around and worth seeing. For the most part, it was scary when it was supposed to be, funny when it wanted to be, and cool when it tried to be. And bonus points for using Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around"

While I like the direction they went with the zombies, it definitely needed some intestine eating to catch up to my favorite, Day of the Dead. but as a remake of Dawn, I thought it did pretty well, especially (minor SPOILER):
. . . . . . . . . . the video footage during the credits was a nice touch. I was worrying that they were going to end this one on an up note, thank god they came to their senses. And having Sex Machine as the local sheriff was a stroke of genious, no matter how limited his cameo was. I think its been said before, but wasn't he one of the gang members in the original? |
