Spoiler: Gaius felt God in his hands

MexicanOnABike 04-04-2008 06:58 PM

good 1st episode!! that was cool.

Willravel 04-04-2008 07:17 PM

Best hour of TV in history. So far.

supersix2 04-04-2008 08:51 PM

I have no idea where they are going to take us next and its awesome. I think it'll be interesting to see how the religious aspects fuse into the the main story line.

Buk 04-06-2008 08:00 PM

Wow, what an awesome episode!

haaahahahahahaha

I have officially caught up to the current episode and my god I laughed out loud at this part. It was awesome.

I'm totally agreeing with a lot of the assessments of this thread. The quick and forced relationship between mr. resistance guy and kara thrace (although it's pretty much dissolved at this point, all in title, nothing in feeling)

starbuck popping in so soon after exploding all over the place is a bit of poor timing but meh whatever, I guess they gotta rush thier way to tie up loose ends in s3 for s4 since they are calling it the last season.

I forsee the show ending with cylons and humans colonizing earth together. They aready missed the chance for the genocide because of helo trying to protect his woman.

I think season 1 was the best for "drama" though, in dealing with boomer trying to cope with her being a cylon and then "BAM* 2 to the chest for the finale, nothing has quite grabbed me since then as being like "zomgzomgzomg"

Gaius Baltar.... HAH. what an awesome act he is.

I have to sympathize with his position though.

He wants to know who he is, he wants to survive, he wants women, he wants to feel god in his hands ;) and he has done a lot to help the fleet despite everything he did to the contrary, so it's just time to see where this new generation half human/cylon baby hybrid is going to go story-wise.

I don't think that explains the "Eye of Jupiter" thing at all. It seems the framework of the story is the same, but the specific player tend to change. The scriptures give an outline, but not the playbook. I still am confused by who knew the final five and built the Temple.

SecretMethod70 04-08-2008 09:38 AM

Well, I think there are two factors. The first is what I already mentioned. The second is that I'm pretty positive that new-BSG is Speculative Spoiler: moving towards incorporating aspects of the "Ship of Lights" storyline from old-BSG

Willravel 04-08-2008 10:02 AM

Oh yeah it's clearly the SOL. Considering the parallels between the old and new it makes perfect sense. The real question, though, is Spoiler: are the non-corporeal phantoms in Baltar and Six's heads Seraphs? And if so, how do their plans fit in with Starbuck insistently leading the Rag Tag Fleet to Earth? And what do the base star cylon hybrids know about the Seraphs and Earth and Starbuck's destiny (referencing the end of Razor).
Lots of questions.

kutulu 04-08-2008 10:42 AM

I'm confused about Tigh. Was he always a Cylon or was the human Tigh replaced by Cylon Tigh as some point either before or during the show?

It would seem that we're being led to believe that if you're a cylon now, you were from the beginning. I can't say for sure if that's the case, but that seems to be the short and long of it for the time being.

ubertuber 04-08-2008 11:53 AM

That's an interesting point, in that Tigh is older than he original Cylon war, right?

Willravel 04-08-2008 11:58 AM

Here's how I see it: Anders is a cylon. Anders probably played pyramid in college before he was playing in the majors. That means that he aged in the public eye (maybe 18-his mid 30s, seeing as how Michael Trucco, the actor who plays Anders is almost 38), which suggests that all of the final 5 can age.

Shauk 04-08-2008 01:01 PM

I seriously want this to end with cylons and humans living together in peace. cuz i'm such a hippy.

ubertuber 04-08-2008 01:18 PM

I'm not saying that they can't age, just that it would be a major twist if there were humanoid cylons before the first cylon war even started.

I wouldn't call that a twist so much, but lets just remember...

It has all happened before, and it will all happen again.

I'm still going with my idea that there will be some sort of co-habitation/peace between humans and cylons by the time they hit earth.

Just cuz it would make sense to project the next generation of this "story" that has happened again and again if they have aging cylons/half cylons among their midsts. It would just totally slap everyone in the face that we're our own worst enemy, always have been, always will be.

Yeah bro - my bad. We nuked 7 Billion people and tried to kill off the human race, but that is water under the bridge. You last 40k and us can all be pals.

Maybe I am a hippy too. . . .Or the opposite of that.

Shauk 04-08-2008 06:45 PM

truth be told, the cylons have had numerous opportunities to destroy the human race in entirety, but they haven't which suggests to me that they are in a position to "repent" for their flawed programming ala sharon and six, and try to integrate into the human way of life, which, in itself is admittedly flawed, but they are willing to be flawed to experience love, and parenthood.

Humans are often being portrayed as unforgiving, distrustful, and self sabotaging as a whole, and really, aren't they?

I foresee it would seem both sides have faults, and for both to reach that understanding then.

I dunno, kill off the cylons, fine, where does that leave the show? and pretend it's not a show, where does that leave the human race? where does that leave their debt to the cylons that have saved their skin numerous times? I could totally see you watching the genocide episode where the cylons caught the virus going "yay, excellent plan, kill them all!" buuuut, heh.. wow that would have made for a lame season 4 eh?

Willravel 04-08-2008 07:00 PM

Had the humans developed the ability to wipe out the cylon back during the first war, they wouldn't have hesitated, and we saw in "Hero" that the Admiralty was more than willing to break the armistice line in order to get intel on the "cylon war machine", which meant that they were still at cold war.

I still see it as a case of two things:
1) They never stopped being at war and
2) They don't know how to be human yet.

oh yeah that episode also pretty much shows that humans started the war, the 7 bajillion whatever people lost on caprica was a retaliatory attack.

that whole episode just felt out of place to me though.

Willravel 04-08-2008 07:52 PM

Not necessarily. Keep in mind that the breach of the armistice line happened a few short years before the genocide of the colonies. That suggests that the cylon had been building their armada of base ships for quite some time.

I miss Bulldog. Carl Lumbly's a badass.

I love playing devil's advocate for a fictitious "race" but yeah, they were machines in slavery, they were pretty much like escaped jews with superpowers who view humans in the light of the german "geet in the ovenz" era

yep, thats it, i broke the rules of debate on the internet, i compared something to hitler, fuck. I lose.

Lots of questions.

Speculative Spoiler: Yes, I think they're Seraphs, and I'm not totally sure that they're on the same side. Head Six would be a Seraph aligned with the new-BSG's version of Count Iblis (or perhaps Head Six is new-BSG's Count Iblis??). I don't remember enough specifics about Head Baltar to know whether or not I think he's aligned with new-BSG's Iblis, or new-BSG's Beings of Light. I do think that Head Leoben was most certainly aligned with new-BSG's Beings of Light. I'm not sure whether or not the form these head characters are taking has any particular meaning. On one hand, it's easy to say that Head Six and Head Baltar take those forms because of the connection each character has to the other. But why does Head Leoben take the form of Leoben to speak to Starbuck?

Willravel 04-08-2008 08:40 PM

Spoiler: Ibus is almost certainly non-corporeal Leoben/the cylon god. I wasn't sure anyone was going to bring the count up.
How do I know it's the count? Von, tvo, three cylons! Ah, ah, ah! http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/c...racter0134.gif

guy44 04-08-2008 08:56 PM

I dunno what's going to happen, and I've never seen the original series. All I know is, I want Baltar to eat it sooooo badly before the show ends.

So badly.

Guy44Please please please don't let this show end without Baltar's head on a stick.

BTW - Funny willravel

As far as SOL is concerned, I don't remember the whole thing, but perhaps I will check it out on Hula or whatever the thing is called. I know it has most if not all the episodes from the OG BSG.

It will be interesting to see a SOL storyline that is implemented in a way we can swallow if that is the way they are going to go with Starbuck. If you go too far with it, you might as well have Lepricons and magic dragons floating around as well. I think SOL in some form though seems most likely based on where we are and the fact that there is no way Starbuck is a Cylon dammit.

james t kirk 04-09-2008 11:53 AM

Here's how it's going to go:

Towards the end of Season IV they will find Voyager and they will play the golden record, "Hello from the children of Planet Earth"

At the end of Seson IV, they will finally find earth and it will be present day earth. The series will end there and there will be a huge uproar among the loyal fans (and that ones that have recently caught up via DVD - like me)

They will make a movie - "Battle Star Galactica - Reunion" where the rag tag fleet meets the Bush Administration. (They might wonder what the hell they've been thinking) The movie will be dedicated to the usual ideas about the fact that we earthlings are not as advanced as the colonials and dealing with the morality of laying this advanced technologoy on us (light speed), but they will figure that they have to prepare us for the cylons who mean to wipe us all out once and for all. But we lowely humans have something the colonials need - NUKES. In fact, we've got lots of them.

The movie will end with the approach of the cylon fleet.

The second movie will be about the inevitable battle for Earth. Truly the mother of all battles as we show them what we can do and they show us how.

The war will of course be won by the humans.

The third movie will be Adama and Laura on Oprah.....Six and Baltar will finally hook up and have lots of hybrid kids and move to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario where Baltar will operate a hunting lodge and Six will bake muffins for the guests.

Spoiler: If Helo and Athena are doing this recon for Earth mission, then who is watching Hera?

Spoiler: I always knew from the beginning that Cally would be the hard luck story in this series.

Willravel 04-18-2008 07:04 PM

She's likely a priority to watch over so they have nannies.
Spoiler: Tory's evil. Saw that coming a mile off. What I didn't see? The death of Cally. I'm really going to miss her character. She was really relatable.

guy44 04-18-2008 10:24 PM

Spoiler: I really liked Cally - I'm sad to see her go, although it does make for a great plotline. Her and Tyrol always seemed like the hard luck couple: regular folks, more or less, just a working man and his wife, who unfortunately found themselves caught in the middle of the craziest, more awful situations. They were definitely proxies for the audience, as it can be hard to identify with apocalyptic machine people and interstellar fighter pilots.

All I know now is, Tory must die. A really, really painful death.

Why is it that all I seem to know about this show is which characters I want dead?

mrklixx 04-21-2008 09:34 AM

Some thoughts/bitchings/ramblings on the current state of BSG

First of all, I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but this should totally be the Cylons theme song:

Ok, on a serious note, the whole "frak" thing is getting redundant to the point of idiocy. Like I've said since the beginning of the new series, since the didn't bother to retain any of the other lingo from the old series, it's like they are pre-pubescent Ross and Monica going "Tee-Hee, we're saying a dirty word that mommy and daddy don't get mad at us about". It's the same reason I don't watch Sopranos or Deadwood. It's not that I'm a prude and I think that it should be profanity (real or made up space cussing) free, but the whole point of profanity is to convey heightened emotion. So when they use it 20+ plus times an episode it just becomes an annoyance, and IMO a laziness in the writing. It's no different than saying "blueberry" 10x in every scene. And If I wanted that much cursing, I'd buy a parrot with Tourettes.

Also, I'm getting a bit fed-up with every promo for the following weeks show saying "NEXT WEEK.....ALL....WILL......BE.....REVEALED!". Because they have been running those every episode this season, and very little has actually "been revealed".:grumpy:

Ok, last bit of complaining. I think it's weird that the Cylons call the other Cylons the "final 5". I mean, they're really only the "final 5" to be revealed to the audience. So shouln't they simply be the "other 5"? Or how about just "the others"? No, wait that's already taken. ;)

Anyway on a lighter note, I just saw this, and thought it was pretty funny, and kind of prophetic:

Speculative Spoiler: If things continue the way they are going, it'll be back to the humans vs. the toasters, like the good ol' days. Or more likely the humans and the skinjobs vs. the toasters.

Lastly, I seriously hope Lucifer makes an appearance.

SecretMethod70 04-21-2008 03:17 PM

I generally don't mind the whole frak thing, but it was a bit overused in the scene with Starbuck. Thing is, I wouldn't have had a problem with it if she had actually said fuck all those times, so I think it's just my own failure to suspend disbelief. That, and the FCC's fault.

I'm sad to see Cally go - I hope I get to see Nicki Clyne in something else in the future - but I'm so happy with where they're going. Tory's interaction with Baltar was obviously pivotal in episode 2, and we're starting to see where she's heading, thanks to Baltar opening her eyes (thanks to Head Baltar guiding Baltar). Which brings me to a Speculative Spoiler: I feel quite confident now that both Head Six and Head Baltar are on the same side. Both have now directed Baltar toward servicing The One True God. Head Six has obviously mentioned him many times, and Head Baltar nudged real Baltar in the direction to connect with Tory and evangelize about The One True God to her. So the next question is: what is the ultimate goal of Head Baltar and Head Six? I don't know exactly, but I'm pretty sure they're affiliated with new-BSG's version of Count Iblis. I can't think of any other explanation.

Willravel 04-21-2008 03:28 PM

Agreed (regarding the speculation).

Eh, Lucifer is one of the less useful ideas from the old series IMO.
