Dawn of the Dead (3 and a half out of 5)

Personally i love any post-apocalyptic movies especially with zombies, and this movie stayed true enough to the earlier 'Day of the Dead' to be considered a fine example of the flesh-eating genre. Lots of thrills, spills and genuinely sick moments to keep you chuckling or shaking...

Shaun of the Dead (5 out of 5)!
A brilliant spoof on the genre and funny pretty much all the way through...

Why not watch them back to back..?

Saw The Bourne Supremecy this past weekend.

Great movie. Enjoyed it a lot more compared to the first one. The last chase scene was awesome. It was kind of crazy how Maria died so early in the film. Actually, I was quite shocked to see this.

Don't want to spoil it too much. This is a great action film and should definately at least be rented to watch.

Can't wait for the 3rd one!

Let's see the last two NETFLIX movies I've seen .........

HIDALGO = 2 out of 5 I'm not sure I was expecting too much, so it wasn't a let down. It was entertaining, but just not a lot to it. It's just alright.

KILL BILL 2 = 4 out of 5 I thought the movie, while not as good as the first, was still very well done. The first is more about the action and the second is more about the character development which fleshed out the movie and made it complete. Definitely worth seeing. Very Good.

High & Low - 8/10

A non-samurai Kurosawa film - the first one for me. A poor boy, mistaken for the son of a rich man, is kidnapped and held for ransom. Does the rich man pay the ransom of the son of his chauffeur and suffer financial ruin, or save the boy's life? Fine acting, interesting plot, played out in film-noir style. Solid performance as ever by the rampaging Toshiro Mifune.

Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell **

I'm not really to much of an anime fan but I figured I would give it a shot because it's gotten so many good reviews and I don't really like singling out certain genre types as being bad. But I really wasn't impressed, I understood the significance of everything and all but the story didn't really go to far. I give it two stars because I think they could have taken it a lot further. There was real potential in it but it just wasn't realized.

i really liked this movie. actually i think it's the best silent film i've ever seen.
the melodramatic acting was never too hyper
fritz lang's 2026 looks shockingly similar to cities of today, except for the biplanes and model t's. the special effects were great.
too bad some of the film was lost forever. i guess it just adds to the mystique.

Somehow I had seen Evil Dead 1 and Army of Darkness but not ED2. It's what I expected, a better funded version of Evil Dead. 4/5, with special kudos for making me laugh so hard I cried while Ash has his girlfriend's disembodied head latched to his hand and is smashing it against things to try and get it off.

i saw this film when it came out and then again last night.
it confirmed my general attitude toward tarantino.
i really did not like the film. i really really did not like the writing.
i would have let it go had tarantino's dialogue not been compared to "elizabethan drama" in the special features.
so it is crap that has no idea it is crap.

i gave it a high score because i actually enjoyed it and a lot of shit happened. there weren't really any slow parts but the ending was TERRIBLE. A lot of movies have bad endings though, it's just hard to put a good one together.

Seen The Grudge on Friday. It was entertaining, not terribly original but I came away pretty entertained and more than a few moments that made me and my girlfriend jump.

I always feel some movies are made better by watching it in a theater with a big crowd at home this movie wouldn't give me quite the same experience.

I agree, and understand why so much of it was just not plausable scientifically. That said it was just a cool flick to watch, very visually entertaining, even though the actors in it were more props then anything/

Ghost in the Shell 2

Its anime but it went to the theaters. Its a long movie for anime and I saw it inspite of the lack luster first ghost in the shell. But this one was advertised and looked good and it really is good. It has a nice blend of 3d and standard animation and the plot has a blade runner feel to it.

Stray Dog - 5/10

Akira Kurosawa's first US release film ('63) that didn't do anything for me. Besides the interest in seeing a 28 year old Toshiro Mifune, and his long time co-star Takashi Shimura, its a pretty thin and watery film. Skip it unless your a diehard fan or filmography student.

Commando 10/10

They don't make them like this anymore. Commando is the perfect movie, shoulda won a couple of dozen oscars too, lots of action, killing, and great one liners. It makes me some what pissed off that movies like this are no longer made, gone are the Robocops, Bloodsports, and Rambos of yesterday, replaced by pieces of crap touchy feely films. It's a good thing these movies are on DVD though. Commando is a must see, it's Arnold's best, right up there with Conan.

Hero

Beautiful choreography, incredibly stylistic, gorgeous colours....the definiation of "Eye candy". The plot is not so important, it's more of a concession to allow all the gorgeousness to unfold. See it if you just want to sit back and contemplate in the beauty....
10/10 for artistic impression
4/10 for plot

The Motorcycle Diaries
Great music, Great plot, adventure...mmkes you want to pike up your bike and go travelling. LIghter than i thought it would be given the subject material. (Although that was before he became the "CHE". ) Gael Bernal is AMAZING. the most beautiful expressive face i have seen in so long....
overall 7/10

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - 9/10

Jim Carrey is more than good in this one, and the chemistry between him and Kate Winslet is really something. Hilarious scene where the 2 are taking a bath in his mom's kitchen sink. Good supporting role for Kirsten Dunst, but Carrey & Winslet are amazing in this. Didn't know Carrey would (or could) be semi-serious onscreen with a woman. He brings his trademark sense of humor, but more mature, less obnoxious. Killer soundtrack, too.

edit: Even better the second time. Its really a powerful, emotional, lovely movie. Lots of charming details that are missed when 1) not picking up all the dialogue, 2) you get past the unlikely sci-fi premise, 3) in a cynical mood. Great offbeat romance.
