21 : What a fun and exciting whirlwind ride! It didn't hurt to have Jim Sturgess as the leading man along with a terrific soundtrack. I'm taking a point off for editing, although I'm not sure if it was a in-theater projector issue or bad editing. It still makes me wanna go to Vegas and count cards, so I'm giving it a 9.

I'm going to walk down to the corner cantina and drink a cerveza, or ten, and see if really loud salsa music will help me forget what I just saw.

When I get back maybe I'll have a number for the rating.

Ok, so slept on it.

I'd give it a 7/10 with a warning not to watch it if you looking to pick up your spirits.

The Punisher - 8/10

Ignore the fact that this is supposed to be based on a comic book character.
Once you take that out of the equation I think this is an awesome movie. Enjoyable from start to finish. And holy crap is Thomas Jane huge in this movie.

RetroGunslinger 03-30-2008 03:45 PM

I went on a movie binge this weekend, so:

Waxwork - 7/10

I'm a horror buff, so this was a serious pleasure to watch. Not only is it one big homage to all of the horror greats, but they even threw in a little Marquis de Sade to make my literary side tingle. Definitely one of the better B-movies from the '80s. Unfortunately, it's trumped by...

Waxwork II: Lost in Time - 8/10

Basically takes the original and pumps it with more humor and a bigger budget, with a fun cameo by Bruce Campbell and some great performances by the villains, the main villain being the guy who played Karl in Die Hard. Big points for references to Nosferatu (which features a young Drew Barrymore), Dawn of the Dead, and Alien.

Barry Lyndon - 9/10

A lesser known Kubrick gem. This baby is a three hour epic with some beautiful performances, cinematography, and costuming. It chronicles the rise of a young man through the classes of Britain during the reign of George II, and I really can't recommend it enough. Coming from an ADHD-riddled mind, it's really something that it didn't lose my attention. I love this film, and you should too.

Enchanted 10/10 I don't think I have laughed this hard at a movie in a long time. The concept of this movie was fantastic and watching how they worked all the old fairy tale's into this "fairy tale meets reality" was a real joy

Grancey 04-06-2008 10:03 PM

21 I give it an 8 because it was so much fun

This was a great film and a lot of fun. I know that I do not have the stamina and ability to count cards at this pace, but the idea is fascinating. Red could not stop obsessing over the fact that Jill had one blue eye and one brown eye. I never even noticed.....

Hain 04-06-2008 11:40 PM

Unearthed (2007) - You can try to keep your sanity with the help of your robot friends with this one. Bad. Just bad. 2/10.

I'm so glad someone else did notice. It was so subtle somehow.

Where The Buffalo Roam - 8/10

Loosely (sometimes VERY loosely) base on the life and times of Hunter S. Thompson.

Some of Bill Murray's finest stuff.

There Will Be Blood 11/10

My son saw the previews for There Will Be Blood and decided he wanted to see it. He actually let me go with him!
He's 19 and hasn't deigned to let me tag along with him for a couple of years now. He is quite the movie critic and he loved it.

We both agreed that we had never seen a movie quite like this before.

We also agreed that Daniel Day Lewis' performance was nothing short of awe inspiring. The up and comer, Paul Dano, was also excellent in this movie.

Shauk 04-07-2008 01:11 PM

yeah "Into the Wild" was a good movie. but yeah, I had the displeasure of watching that movie sitting next to my ex girlfriend, talk about an uneasy message between the 2 of us...

imouseone 04-07-2008 07:49 PM

Vantage Point: 7.5/10 - I always liked movies with different stories that come together. The ending was pretty weak. Everything else was enjoyable.

allaboutmusic 04-08-2008 09:55 AM

The Holiday. 8/10

Harmless rom-com. Loved those.

Cynthetiq 04-08-2008 09:58 AM

Flightplan - 6/10

it was interesting visually for some reason. the devices were a bit weak, as were the plot points, but it was still an interesting movie.

Jove 04-08-2008 11:16 AM

Lost Highway: 5/10

This movie is rather confusing because one character morphs in to another character without an explanation then things get a little weird. The lead female character changes hair colors and has sex with the morphed characters and then there is the odd old dude with wild expression on his face who shows up at random times saying random words. I guess the high light of the movie is to see Patricia Arquette naked when she was in good shape.

Hain 04-08-2008 02:32 PM

One of the 8 films to die for? Please!

Absolutely horrible... just horrible! I was embarressed I even spent the time to rent one of these movies. I don't even think Mike Nelson could have made this one funny.

blahblah454 04-08-2008 04:19 PM

10,000 BC - 1/10

Easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life, I think Will said it best with "zzzzz/10"

Halx 04-08-2008 05:35 PM

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - 9.5/10
Really fuckin good. It was so twisted and convoluted that I purposefully stopped trying to figure it out and just enjoyed it for its cinematic value. I couldn't give it a perfect 10 because .. really.. there is such thing as too much Robert Downey Jr. It's easier to handle when bad shit keeps happening to him.

Walk Hard 9/10

One of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. I actually had to leave the room because I couldn't stop laughing at one of the scenes.

Man of the Year with Robin Williams in it.

Great kick ass movie. Funny, poignant, what he says is politically great.... I wish we truly could have someone like that run for president.

10/10 All Hail Tom Dobbs.........

Into the wild - 10/10....... Wow... just wow... I can't remember the last time I felt that much emotion watching a movie...

Thanks for the insight into that one guys

Hain 04-11-2008 05:17 AM

I have been reading the opinions of others on this movie and I digress.

Sweeney Todd (2007) - 3/10 - I was disappointed at this movie. I was excited like most but it just didn't sit right with me. The movie was predictable and the ending did not feel right. The only part I really laughed at was Mrs. Lovett's dream by the sea, that part tickled me. This was definitely not my favorite Burton flick. I am going to shower to get that off and watch some Batman, Beetlejuice, and Big Fish.

Hain 04-12-2008 01:03 PM

The Deaths of Ian Stone (2007) - At first I was convinced I was watching They, you know, that movie Wes Craven shouldn't have presented. Still, keeping an open mind I found myself fascinated with these alternate worlds, and the character, Ian Stone dying to find himself in the new life. Where They left me with questions I wanted answers to, the story of Ian Stone's deaths had answers to questions I thought were more interesting left unanswered, a conundrum, I know, I can't have it both ways but that is what I thought. I give The Deaths of Ian Stone a 5 of 10. I will watch it again to see what I missed this time around.

This Is Spinal Tap

This is not my first viewing, nor even my fifth. An excellent film parodying the excesses and tribulations of the music industry. Also unbelievably quotable.

"We've got armadillos in our trousers. It's really quite frightening."

9/10

Datalyss 04-12-2008 03:55 PM

RoboCop errrrly this morn on Encore Action.

4/5.

Church 04-12-2008 08:52 PM

Street Kings - 6.5/10

I had high hopes for this one and although it was alright and had some good parts, it just had something wrong with it. I don't know if its the kill everything to make it all right or just the cheesy one liners that seemed kind of awkward, but it just left a bad taste at some points during the movie.

Halx 04-12-2008 09:36 PM

Eastern Promises - 8/10
Was going great, but things wrapped up too quickly and oddly. I could have easily lasted another hour.

lol, I'm not sure which parts you're referring to but if its the Spoiler: parts where he's trying the drugs each time, then I agree lol

Grancey 04-12-2008 10:11 PM

Vantage Point 5/10

This was a so-so flick. I like films made this way, but I really got tired of the audience groaning at the repetition. I love Fox on Lost, but I could not accept his character in this film. He was not believable.

jewels 04-13-2008 04:22 AM

Martian Child - 7

So you know that John Cusack can do no wrong in my book. Add one adorable child and a flawed but saccharin sweet story that would have sucked if my man John didn't manage to carry the film.

P.S. Teen rating: It was okay. The boy was adorable :)

Tully Mars 04-13-2008 06:32 AM

Lions for lambs

I don't know if it's that I find Tom Cruise creepy these days or that I felt like Redford was on a soapbox, not a fan of being preached to, but I wasn't all that thrilled with this movie. Streep was, as always, fantastic.

I'll give it a 6/10. But firmly believe I'll watch it again as I think my opinion may change.

On a side note I went to this movie with a Mexican lady, she picked the film. I found out afterwards that she'd seen it before. I think she was interested in seeing/hearing my take on it. The war, among other US activities around the world, are not real popular down here. She seemed pleasantly surprised to hear I think the Iraq war was and is the biggest bone headed move in US history. Her opinion was that Iraq and Afghanistan were one in the same. We debated a bit and I told her I didn't see it that way at all. I'm sure I didn't sway her opinion. She firmly believes the US should stop trying to be the worlds police and stop telling other countries what and how to do things.

The 'New' Rambo..

Well, After seeing the previous films, I didn't know what to expect.. it's some years on now, A big doller sign just sprung to mind when I heard it was announced..shortly after seeing the last rocky movie.

The film it self I'd give a generous 6/10, Yeah it's got lots of people getting shot and loosing various limbs, but rambos never say die attitude gets a bit dull and most of the killing is done by his mercenary pals.

Overall, It's enjoyable if you wanna see shit get blown up, but it does leave alot to be desired!

mixedmedia 04-13-2008 10:58 AM

Not a very good run of movies lately...

The Painted Veil 6/10
eh.

The Kite Runner 6/10
eh. (but, I liked the book)

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer 7.5/10
The young man who starred as the perfumier was very believable. The set-up to the story was very engaging and aesthetically interesting, but ultimately the plot kind of withered and died about halfway through.

re-watched recently:
Mommie Dearest 5/10 (and that's only for Faye Dunaway's performance and her sexy shoes)
I picked this up for $5 at the Wal-Mart last week while buying a kite for the Boo. I was amused to see a little animated clip - can't remember the name of it now - something about significant moments in gay history in which it explained how flannel shirts and mullets became popular amongst lesbians, lol. I guess they know what the typical audience for this movie is these days - Faye as Joan Crawford is monumentally drag-able, that's for sure.
But all that aside, this movie really sucks, you know? It had been years and years since I'd seen it but...really, really not good. The Boo happened to walk in during the infamous 'wire hanger' scene, stood there for about 10 seconds and said 'she's nuts' and then walked back out. That was my favorite part of the movie.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford. 7/10

The last time I checked, doesn't an assassination involve one person unaware of their death?

When the assassination does take place, it appears Jesse James knew he was going to die, but didn't really stop Robert Ford from his actions. The overall story was decent and the narration was pretty good, but it seems in the end Jesse James was rather depressed and ready to die.

In The Bedroom-5/10

Basic story line is that a college kid falls in love with an unhappily married woman who is thinking of getting a divorce from abusive husband who then does something rather unfortunate to the college kid and then the entire 2 hours is spent watching the parents of college kid handle the outcome. This film could have been better, but it remained slow and uninteresting.

allaboutmusic 04-13-2008 02:38 PM

Save The Last Dance - 7/10

Entertaining teen movie with some good themes.

jewels 04-13-2008 04:25 PM

The Eye (Gin Kwai) - 6.5/10

I was curious about the American version but knew I'd like the original foreign version better. The Chinese version was more of a psychological thriller. Although the story's been done before, this version's main character was well created and acted. Silly ghost effects, but otherwise a good suspense build.

MexicanOnABike 04-13-2008 04:35 PM

The Ruins

Good overall for the movie but some acting was pretty average and the storyline could have been better. I wont go in details but it's about a couple of american kids(18-25) and 1 german dude going to visit some undiscovered ruins in the mayan jungle. when they get there, shit happens. It's horror, what did you expect?!

I give it a weak 7 out of 10.

Don't forget to check the link in my signature to know how I review my movies.

That movie is suppose to take place mainly at Coba, about 30 inland from Tulum. Did you catch the credits and see where it was filmed? Australia. It's not due out down here until the end of May, but people are already none to happy about it. Don't think it's going to be packing them in south of the border.

The Mist 8-10 ,usual Stephen King.
The kite runner ,was awesome 10-10 ,made me sit and take a look at myself.
