My roommate rented Legally Blonde 2 tonight, and for some reason I watched it with him (yes, him). I really wish I could say at least one good thing about this movie beside the fact that Reese Witherspoon is hot. Unfortunately, the entire time I was watching it, I was wishing I had a brick handy to bang my head into. I think this movie gave me cancer.

Just saw Matrix: Revolutions last night. There are a lot of really bad reviews out there for it. I wasn't disappointed in the story at all but I was minorly diappointed in how the story was told. I think they gave us too much too fast. The special effects are much better than The Matrix or Matrix: Reloaded. I enjoyed the fact that even though the movie wraps everything up quite well, it doesn't make all the answers abundantly clear.
3.5 out of 5 -1.5 for some rushed-along sappy scenes. I put the trilogy in order from best to worst The Matrix Matrix: Reloaded Matrix: Revolutions I guess its to be expected, sequels usually subsequently get worse. As a whole I am pretty pleased with the entire trilogy, and the Animatrix too. |
Hmmm, I haven't posted in this thread for a while. Anyway, I was watching The Iron Giant on Cartoon Network today. I actually really enjoy this movie. It's got a lot of heart.
For those of you who might not be familiar with it, it's an animated family film about a boy who becomes friends with a rather large robot. The movie takes place in 1958 and when the government begins an investigation leading to the Giant, our hero, Hogarth, takes it upon himself to save him. Just because this is a family film doesn't mean you have to be a child to enjoy it. In fact, I think adults will like it just as much, if not more so, than children. There isn't any childish humor or stupid gags. There is just a cast of characters you can possibly relate to, and share in their adventure. Not many who have seen the movie can find anything really bad to say about it, but it still seems a little underrated. ****/**** |
Master and Commander
8/10 A war movie set on a boat during the Napoleon wars. Great actors and breathtaking scenes. |
A Bronx Tale.
Written and directed by robert De Niro. Good, not brilliant but very good. Also you get to watch De Niro act as a peacefu bus driver, and do it well. Obviously old Robert went and made this movie direct from Scorsese 101 though, the Goodfellas parallels never end. |
Kill Bill.
Absolutely fucking brilliant. |
Wrong Turn - 2/5
Gory, but stupid. Ya ya ya. |
Wet Hot American Summer
soooo funny... the 80's shorts were a little frightening, but where else are you gunna hear David Hyde Pierce say "fuck my cock!" must see |
Mystic River
Excellent performance by Sean Penn and Tim Robbins only might of dragged on a bit too long. 4/5 |
Love Actually : Really good movie, went there thinking chick flick came out wanting to see it again
go see it with your gf/wife/bf/husband 9/10 |
Reservoir Dogs
Gory and hilarious. I seem to have an affinity to Tarantino's movies... 10/10 |
lord of the rings : two towers extended edition
8 / 10 best of the trilogies. Lucas should take some notes. |
Theaters: Love Actually - I adored this movie. It was so damn good. I'm most likely going to see it again. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. Love love love. Go see it!
Rental: Down With Love - Not great, not horrible. If you go into it knowing that it'll be a bit campy and fun you won't be too disappointed. Seriously people, go see Love Actually |
Octopussy, for like the 10th time. It was on TV last night on TNNs Bond Marathon thing. I would give it 4/5 stars-but not because it is a good movie. It is Bond, which automatically knocks it up a few stars. There are all kind of holes in it, but it succeeds in being a good adventure. Besides, I have all kinds of memories of growing up watching Bond movies :D Not a really good movie, but hell, its James Bond.

O' Brother Where Art Thou? (5th+ time I've seen it)
6 of 5 stars ;) |
The Hulk.
3/5 There is no story really. Well there is, but they dont really go to it alot. They just stick with the Hulk and him tearing everything apart. The effect were like, the best and the worst at point. At points the animation got really cheesy, and in other point the Hulk you coulda swore looked real. And, i dont know, maybe use a hotter chick, heh. |
Memento Special Edition with the easter egg to watch it chronologically (check out http://www.eeggs.com for more easter eggs for just about every movie)....
Some things work better all muxed ip, some other things shine chronologically. Still one damn fine move. I can't say what would have made it perfect, and I can't bring myself to call anything perfect, so 9/10 will have to do for this version. On a related note, my girlfriend used to run a theater. They got Memento in for a one week run. Three months later, they finally stopped showing it. |
Master and Commander
7/10 - Good movie but I was hoping for more battle scenes and action. |
X2 -
4 out of 5 stars... No need for exposition this time around... so the movie just blazes forth... a very good film. |
the longest nite (patrick yau) : HK Triad movie, brilliantly stylish, great performances by Tony Leung & Wan Lau Ching. only available on r3 dvd, bad quality but the movie shines trough.
best variation on the 'lady from shanghai' mirror-scene ever. 4 out of 5 |
Terminator 3 DVD
What the hell happend? The first 2 were good. Other than a couple scenes being noteworthy merely for their special effects this movie sucked, sucked, sucked. Leave it alone already. I almost started thinking Arnold pushed for this because the Matrix gave machine vs human theme another small boost. I dont know; this just sucked on to many levels to go into. .1567 out of 5 |
finding nemo:
the movie finally reached european shores, nice movie, stunning visuals. pixar rulez !! 4 out of 5 |
I also just watched Finding Nemo and give it 4 out of 5. The more I see about Pixars staffing techniques and there offices, makes me just want to work for them. If you have not seen this one yet, its a very good, well done movie. The CGI is amazing.

Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell (category: anime/sci-fi/drama) [rating: 8/10]
The one thing that really caught my attention about this 90s era Japanese anime (after seeing it the second time) is that this movie has an incredible soundtrack (and sounds especially good on the new sound system my mom has). It really adds to the appeal of the movie as a whole, and I believe the music is what sets it apart from some other cyborg animes. Also, it has intriguing themes that could be deemed as philosophical in nature, and asks questions about the true nature of what is means to be human. I watched it dubbed, but I'd like to see it again in the original language. Ghost in the Shell is a treat. |

Excellent topic!
For me, it'd have to be Bruce Almighty... my girlfriend and I rented it last night... on VHS! :P Basically Jim Carrey's character gets God's powers for a week while God himself (played excellently by Morgan Freeman) goes on "vacation". Much hilarity ensues. :) I'd have to give it a 4 outta 5. The ending got a bit dark for my tastes. Overall though, I laughed out loud a lot. :) |

Last night I put in Almost Famous. It was getting late, so I didn't have time to watch the extended version. Even still it remains one of my favorite movies. It's got almost everything you could want in a movie. It's got a great story, great music, and it's hilarious.

Bad Santa. This movie was great if you like dark comedies. A perfect fucking holiday movie to go watch with your family :p.
4 out of 5 stars |
The Missing
Infinately better than I thought it was going to be. Tommy Lee Jones but in his same monotone dead pan expression, but Kate Blanchett stole the movie. Her 8 year old daughter was a hard ass too. It ran a bit long but it kept my attention the entire time. Lord of the Rings couldnt even do that. 4 out 5 |

The Last Samurai (category: action/drama) [rating: 9/10]
I've already written what I thought about this film before the server seemingly crashed and lost what I wrote. Here's the quick scoop. Great movie; imagery, music, acting. As with most movies that cover broad topics, this film seemed too short and too long simultaneously. Overall, though, I loved it and wanted to cry several times because of its intensity. |
I stayed in tonight and decided to give Requiem for a Dream another watch. I've seen it several times, so it's not quite as shocking to me anymore, but it's still a great film. It's nice to see filmmakers who view their work as art. I love the visuals, the music, and the pace of the movie. Also, I'd like to go on record as saying that the Academy made a HUGE mistake for not giving the Oscar to Ellen Burstyn. She is phenomenal in this movie.

I haven't visited this thread yet so I'll give you the last few movies I've watched.
The Hulk - I grew up watching The Hulk on TV with his crappy green body paint or whatever they used and loved it. This movie was a little overdone Hulk was too big and looked too cartoonish (is that a word?) I give it 6 outta 10 Bad Santa - Great movie, I am a big fan of Billy Bob anyway and he plays a great drunk santa. 8.5 outta 10 Pirates of the Caribbean - I really was surprised by this movie I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. 8 outta 10 |
I just finished watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I have to watch it at least once a year. It never stops being hilarious.

In the over-priced movie theators -- Kill Bill -- 4/5
I loved Kill Bill, I loved every gory second of it. Swords, sexy chick kicking ass in a knock-off Bruce Lee outfit, Lucy Lu, blood, anime, and the Rza producing the Ost, I love all of those things. At home -- Fight Club -- 5/5 I could devote a whole page for the reasons I love this movie, Chuck Palanuick (I think I spelled that one wrong) is my favorite author. The movie pulled most of the important ideas from the book and still was true to the book (I think the book ending was better than the movie ending). You are not your fucking khakis. |
Speedway Junky - 5.5/10
Jesse Bradford Daryll Hannah Jonathan Taylor Thomas Johnny(Bradford) Is a runaway trying to get to North Carolina to be a Racecar driver. He goes to Vegas hoping to win enough to get there but ends up broke and falls in with a crowd of hustlers, druggies and thieves. The story lacks heart. The relationship between straight boy and gay boy seems to be the focus of the movie, but it's bogged down by everything else that the relationship doesn't develop, at least it doesn't seem to until the end. It's a good story told not so good. Be forgiving when you watch it and you'll like it. |
DVD - Pirates of teh carribbean? 4/5 - Johnny Depp is dreamy. Kty.
Theatre - Stuck On You? 3/5 - Pretty damn funny, and a decent story as well.. just kinda, weird. .. Cher sucks. |
"A Mighty Wind" - 7 out of 10
Guest, McKean and Shearer are never going to best Spinal Tap. A Mighty Wind is more charming than farcical, pushing the squeaky clean aspects of the folk music scene rather than mock it's lyrics. Still, Fred Willard is a riot, and Eugene Levy is fantastic. I even DIDN'T hate Catherine O'Hara (and usually I do). Like "Best in Show", the movie falls a little short, if only because the cliches and trappings of the folk music world (or dog show world) aren't as plentiful (or as recognized as those of heavy metal. On a side note, I think they left the best song on the cutting room floor. If you get a chance to see the DVD, look at the deleted scenes and dial up "Corn Wine". Absolutely Brilliant song. Is there a full version mp3 of this song floating around anywhere? |
