Urgent urination

Okay ladies of the tfp! Once again I need your experience and assistance.

Recently I have been plagued with the uncontrollable need to pee. Like today, used the bathroom before we went out, strolled Wally-world for a bit, then went to bevmo. Not during any of this time did I feel even the slightest need to pee. However, the moment I stepped out of the truck it hit me like a freight train. By the time I walked from my truck to the curb I couldn't control it anymore and to my dismay I wet my pants. Now I was doing my best to hold it in, to no avail. I had to walk quickly back to my truck and wait for im2smrt4u to finish getting his stuff.

This has happened a couple times in the past couple of weeks. It was occuring about a month back and kinda settled down. But maybe that's because I cut down on my liquid intake. I don't know.

I don't know if I have a bladder infection or not. Its not uncomfortable when I do urinate nor is it uncomfortable when the urge arises, its just the normal tingly feeling only more urgent. I am planning on making an appointment with my gyno for a follow up apt about my bc, but I was hoping for some ideas or advice before that since the apt probably wont be able to be for another couple of weeks.

Any other needed info...just ask.

BTW I do not feel that the number of times I urinate has increased, just the urgency.

In case it is a UTI, you need to get into the doctor more quickly that in 2 weeks. That stuff can kill you if it goes untreated for too long and gets up in your endocrine system. I would call the clinic back and tell them you're afraid you have a UTI, and could you please get in sooner? (Have you ever had one before, btw?)

Ditto what abaya said. Rule out UTI first.

You might want to figure out exactly when it started, if you're fluid intake has changed or needs to increase, etc.

Usually a UTI would involve pain, but if you drink a lot of water it can make it seem less obvious.

The urgency to me sounds just like when I had one, and it was almost uncontrollable. It got to the point where I'd feel the urge right after having gone for a pee, and nothing would come out, but it was still there. That's when it started to get reeeally painful.

I'd definitely go to see my obgyn, it is easily treated. Go before it starts to hurt!

Get thee to a doctor ASAP!

I had a UTI like that for a couple of days, but I attributed it to exercising and drinking a ton of water (summertime). Unfortunately, the third or fourth day let me know that it was definitely a UTI - pain and blood specks in my urine. I barely made it to urgent care without wetting my pants.

I was thinking it might be UTI but like I said it was doing this awhile back and stopped for about a month. I feel no pain at all, but just to be on the safe side I'll try to make and apt with the school clinic. I just hate going there because they never know what they are talking about.

Extra info: It seems only to occur when I stand up after sitting for awhile, and not often. It happened once on Monday and once on Saturday night after the car ride from my parents house to here, about 50 miles. And I realized that the urgency issue has been going on probably since about March, but I have only had the two major accidents. At first I attributed it to the fact that I have always had a bladder control issue since I was little.

I think I'm gonna call my gyno, tell him the symptoms and see if he recommends that I go to the student health center. I just worry about going there because if they think they know whats going on with you they won't listen to what you have to say, and they have misdiagnosed me before.

It sounds like you might have a subclinical UTI, hovering between going away and coming on full-blown. I agree with the other ladies, go ahead and get checked ASAP just in case.

Yea I have an apt on Thursday morning with my gyno...of course right before we head to Vegas for our "romantic weekend". Gosh I hope its not a UTI I hate antibiotics! They give me yeast infections and make bc ineffective

Thanks everyone! Cross your fingers for me that its not anything too serious. Thankfully my gyno is awesome.

Considering it's summer (and you are already getting checked for a UTI) ... sometimes when it's hot my body will retain alot of fluids that I drink during the day. As soon as the weather cools later in the day, it lets go of the fluids, and the urges to go are sudden. But only on hot days. Just a thought.

if there's no pain involved, i'd probably think the next most likely thing it could be is stress incontinence. sounds like it doesn't happen unless youve been sitting for a long time and then all of a sudden stand up.. this might be helpful

Personal Experience: I had a UTI , it was pretty bad, I was peeing blood. Doctor got me taking nitrofurantoin antibiotics and the blood went away but what stayed was my urgency to pee. It's say a sign of UTI is that you feel like peeing but little came out when you go. I thought it went away because when i feel the urgentcy to go pee, I actually do pee, so I just just ignore it until I cant stand it anymore because its just not normal to me (about a month period) yet, there's nothing wrong, no pain or anything just my urgency to go pee. I went back to the doctors and found out I have rebound UTI. Once you have UTI , its easy to contract it again.

Well I went into the gyno before we headed to Vegas. He didn't think it was a UTI but had me give some urine to make sure nothing "funny" is going on. Guess I'll find out soon. Though since last Sunday I have not had any problems...who knows.

Update:

I called the doctors office and asked about the results from my urine sample. The nurse said that they would only call if something abnormal showed up and since no one had called then everything was fine. I've been making sure that I go as soon as I feel anything, I have not had any real problems lately. The urge is still stronger than I'm used to but it seems to be calming down. Who knows...sometimes I hate my body lol.

On the initial office visit, you described the symptoms. Did he/she say they were going to rule out UTI first? Was there any discussion of what else might cause those symptoms?

You're entitled to some sort of diagnosis, I would think, even if he's more comfortable sending you to another specialist.

I used to let things go, rationalizing that I felt a little better and it was too much hassle. But I found out the hard way that it's not very heroic. You know your body best. Pain and discomfort are the way it communicates to you.

Call the doc, please. Ask him what's next so that you can get this diagnosed and taken care of.

He did ask me some different things, like if I had any pain, any discomfort while urinating and the such.

The problem is with my insurance I can only self refer myself to the gyno once a year for my pap, which was in Jan. The only reason I was going back was because he wanted to make sure I was doing ok on the new birth control. I was supposed to go back to see him at the beginning of June but I had to get a referral from my primary physician whom I have never actually seen. I did not receive this approval until the 30th of July. The gyno is one of like three in the area so he is always swamped with ladies who are pregnant as well as women getting paps.

I can't go to the student health center because they would just tell me I had a weak bladder. I did pick up literature on urgent urination. It said that the first course of action would be to do exercises, aka Kiegles. After that the options are more extreme like surgery to artificially strengthen the muscles.

Like I said I have not had any more incidents with the need being so bad that I have nearly wet myself. I am going to try to make an apt with a doctor at my primary doctors office if it does continue to be a problem.

I would highly encourage you to be very aggressive about getting this taken care of. It's very easy to incur permanent damage if things like this aren't taken care of immediately. You don't want to say, "Yeah, it started in college, and ever since then I've had this embarrassing problem..." So many things are easily (or more easily) cured with early treatment, but sometimes you have to make a pest of yourself and insist on timely medical care, even from those who are supposed to give it to you without the extra effort.

Myself, I would make this the highest priority and get it taken care of ASAP. Call your doctor's office. Don't let them brush you off with a "weak bladder" diagnosis. Call your ins. company. Miss work or classes (to a point, I know that's not easy) or whatever. Man, if I nearly peed my pants because of this, there's really no reason to do anything else but make this go away NOW.
