Injection Advice Needed
I've been on the depo provera (birth control) shots for at least a year now, maybe two.. After my injection the area of my butt that the needle goes into is tender for about ten minutes (as with most injections I gather) and then it's fine. However, I had my latest injection on Thursday and the area of my butt where I had it is still quite tender - I find it uncomfortable to lean on or lie on that side of my bum.
I am not sure if she's bruised me or something (I can't see any visible bruising) or if this sometimes happens with depo? Or.. my other thought was that with my new job I've been doing a lot of walking up and down stairs which is firming up my butt muscles a bit - would this cause the extra pain with the injection? I just wondered if anyone had any added opinions before I call the nurse and make a fool of myself to find out this is completely fine. |

This is something that happens with Depo- she probably just got you in an easily-bruisable muscle.
Off that topic, I would get off Depo. There are many problems I encountered with it in my two years on it. (After a year plus some months, I am still getting sporatic periods.) Also, after two years, you can supposedly become sterile. |

I've been on depo for the past 3 years, I get the shot in my arm, which is only sore for a few days.... The only thing I don't like about it is the weight gain I guess..
But do you have soreness in your leggs.. I don't know if it the depo causing it, but if I put in pressure on my leggs it hurts and brusies real bad like I got poor circulation or something.. Not sure.. But I never have had a period while on depo either... |

There are so many blood vessels, muscles and nerves in that area that it's hard to NOT be sore after an injection in your ass. I used to be on Depo (HATED it), and I don't think there was ever a time that I WASN'T sore after being injected. When they gave me my first Rho-Gamm shot during my pregnancy, they hit my sciatic. I could barely walk, and the pain lasted for over a week. That's the risk you run when you stick a needle in your bum
If you don't like the injection, there are many other alternatives to depo. If you're only on the shot because you're one of those people that can't remember to take a pill every day (like me), then you could consider the Patch (Ortho Evra), or an IUD. I was on the patch for a long time and I loved it! The only reason I'm not on it now is because I'm still breastfeeding, and the hormones aren't good for my son. And it doesn't affect your fertility - I got pregnant the first month I was off of the patch. With the shot, it could be a year or more before you could conceive. I've known many other women that were on depo, and none of them have ANYTHING good to say about it. I'm with la petite moi on this one - I'd get off that wretched shot if I were you. |

Depo sucks. A lot. So far, so good on the IUD - there's a whole thread on that one.
As for the patch - don't do it. Recently, there's been lots of incidences of blood clots while on the patch, and those can be deadly. If you're doing hormones, I'd advise either the pill, or Nuva Ring.

i went on depo, after about 2years my Obgyn, had me taken off it.. My health department didnt feel the need to tell me that it can cause multiple side-effects. Bone loss, heart problems(which by the way for two years i experienced really bad chest tighting, fast heart beat, and breath taking pain), but no anymore.. not since i discontinued. heres the one that bothers me the most, it can cause you to go sterile, so i would really look into before you put your bodies at risk...
