Hi I'm Michael, 23y/o from 50°06'44"N 08°40'55"E.

Felt in love with HouseMD after it's release 2004 and didn't miss a single episode

mixedmedia 08-18-2008 07:54 AM

Hello, Michael. Welcome. :)

Devils Rancher 08-18-2008 04:15 PM

I have no idea what's going on, here. That may be a plus. Actually, that's pretty much my normal day.

Me:
1. Father
2. Musician
3. Printer of fabulous T-shirts
4. Caver
5. There is no five.

I'm just poking around here because someone hotlinked one of my images, so I followed the URL from my stats, and it looked interesting. Don't be put off by username -- it's just an anagram of my real name.

I browsed around a while for a "why does this site exist" manifesto-type thread, but couldn't find one. Another sign of my general state of cluelessness -- can someone point me to any such thing that might be in writing? I'm genuinely curious about how/why this community exists.

Cheers,
Chris

Cynthetiq 08-18-2008 04:19 PM

Welcome.... hmmmm... that's a great question... we've been around for 6+ years and everyone knows why, but I guess we all tell each other the story.

We exist because we wanted to have a place that has a better type of forum, that is, to better oneself and challenge each other with different opinions and viewpoints. It isn't just social tolerance, but really social acceptance.

Anagrams are fun!

why caver and not spelunker?

Firstly because caver is easier to say and more immediately descriptive, and besides spelunker sounds stupid, anyway, doesn't it? The caving community as a whole stopped using spelunker to self-describe a good 20 years ago, I'd say. These days it tends to carry negative connotations -- words change.

fableboy77 08-18-2008 06:11 PM

back after a couple years away

Used to frequent the forums starting back in '03 but for some reason or another real life seemed to take over and I found that I didn't have as much time as I used to for browsing/chatting/posting etc.

Recently, I've found ways to make some more time for myself and I was very happy to find the community still alive and active!

me:
late 20s

married to a cool artsy gal (who does watercolor / acrylic and mixed media work)

I do a little bit of everything when it comes to paying the bills, though my office title is somewhat silly : "senior presentation layer developer" ... which pretty much just means that I build other people's websites for them.

World of Warcraft junkie still (sigh) - though last year I decided that playing a single account wasn't quite enough so I grabbed a few extra PCs and now run 5 accounts at a time for kicks.

so in summary - I guess I am pretty much just a lucky nerd who found a hot artist that had a thing for nerds :)

it's fun to be back!

mixedmedia 08-19-2008 02:30 AM

Hi, fableboy. Welcome back!

Mellu 08-25-2008 06:17 PM

Hi all, I'm Mellu and I used to lurk here YEARS ago. Decided it was time to check it out again and see what's been going on. Maybe this time around I'll lurk less.
I'm more or less an ex-punk who (sorta) grew up to become a married RN and owner of 2 amazing dogs.

Jetée 08-25-2008 11:16 PM

Nice to know you haven't forgot about us, Mellu. Welcome back.

Anormalguy 08-26-2008 12:12 PM

Hi to all. My name is Chris, I'm in my late 40s, have been married over 21 years, & consider myself to be pretty much a normal guy. Hopefully as I get more comfortable posting you will get to know me a little better, & vice versa.

I found this site when I used Google to search for a site where adults could openly discuss real world concerns & experiences, including ones of a sexual nature . From what I've seen so far there's a lot of candor here, & very little judging. I don't want to sound like an asskisser, but it can't be easy moderating a forum where just about any subject allowed.

I'm looking forward to spending some time with you folks.

snowy 08-26-2008 12:24 PM

Welcome! I hope you don't mind that most of us are not so normal :)

mixedmedia 08-26-2008 01:21 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm from Croatia, and I joined this forum to practice the English language by participating in discussions.

Hiya

Hiya ... a little shy ack!

Ok ok ... about me ... well recently came to find myself separated. Please don't say you are sorry ... its awesome. Really freaking awesome ... I'm free!

Also I'm recently shy LOL. Six months ago I would have burst in here and posted crazy pics of myself all over but have come to realize that person isn't me. She was just a crazy cover to make sure no one saw the real me. So now I'm shy because I'm not really sure what I like anymore and what was just me trying to make someone else happy and if anyone will like this new me.

Wow you guys probably don't care about all this.

Hi, I'm Samantha and I'll just lurk around here for a bit if you don't mind! :)

Hi, there,

I'm from Houston and just joined this forum. It looks interesting, and I will be interested in read everyone's takes on the elections tomorrow!

A bit about myself, I am a professional harpist and editor who is out of work right now. Thinking about applying for disability but who can survive that process and then survive on the pittance they dole out IF you get approved after fighting the system for a few years? So, still looking for work and playing whatever gigs I can. I also teach harp lessons and am working on a book about living with fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions.

GO OBAMA!!!

Jetée 11-07-2008 07:04 AM

Well, it seems you predicted it, cross_harps. I look forward to more of your divination.

Welcome.

I have neighbors who come down every year from Winnipeg. They winter here in Mexico and head back in late April. They said it was lightly snowing the morning they left. It's lightly raining here but it's 76F. Hopefully the rain will stop as I have clothes in the wash and need to hang them out to dry.

When visiting a new forum for the first time I usually stay away from making an introductory post. Many sites just don't get it and more often than not they lead to the typical 'noob' bashing. TFP, I salute you for retaining a side of maturity in this, the land of the internet anonymous.

Hi, I'm new here, i found this forum pretty accidently and want to excuse right now for all grammar or other mistakes i might do, since I am german and my english skills are not perfect. You could say, i understand 95% of what you are saying and i can write 80% myself, since i lack the experience in writing.
I hope, I'll enjoy this forum, I only read a few posts untill now and it seems pretty nice for me. :-)
