Frickin confusing.....

I am trying to figure out what guns I can move with me to Cali and which ones I should leave behind. My 7.62MM SKS is on the ban list for Banned Weapons, but I cannot find if my HI-POINT 9MM Sub Rifle is legal? It is not mentioned on the ban list, but it is a newer firearm. (last year). Anyone know how I might proceed? I called the local Sheriff Dept and asked, but they refered me to a site, that frankly, needs to be read by an attorney. It is all codes and laws, that doesn't make much sense to me. What happens to me if I "accidently" bring in a firearm that is illegal in this state? I even contacted the NRA, but they said they do not councel on these issues??? WTF??? Nobody can answer my questions. I really really really don't want to contact the ATF. So any help here would be great.

Just to be on the safe side. I would call the city where you are living at and contact the local police dpt. or a FFL and ask.

California has one of the strictest gun laws. Anybody here remember the Northridge (or was it North Hollywood) robbery? They were decked with full body armor and armor piercing rounds in a AK47 complete with drums.

I was in the market for a SKS and found out (through internet) that it can not be sold in California

ATF wouldn't be able to help you since they don't enforce Cali's laws.

Sorry I can't provide any answer beyond that. As Solo mentioned, your best bet would be to call a gun shop in the city you're moving to and ask them.

Blech, don't get me started on Cali gun laws. If you post the site, I'll try to decipher it for you; I'm pretty good at figuring out what the hell politicians are saying.

I'd recomend playing it safe, and not bringing any thing that hasn't been specifically approved by the state.

just keep em locked up and out of site...

unless you have a good friend or family member to keep them for you...

That's actually not a bad idea. Keep the guns in your home in a locked safe and when transporting, keep the bolt open with a cable tied around it and the ammo in a different compartment.

Isn't it ironic as hell, that I (a 20 year old) can go to the local gun shop and pick up a .50 rifle that can pierce light armor. But I can't pick up a semi-automatic SKS rifle?

It is my understanding that the State of California requires all gun owners to complete gun ownership course, otherwise shut up and hold on.

And you can NOT go to safeway and get a sixpack of beer. But armor-piercing guns...

its pretty lame...

my uncle was telling me that a while back california required everyone with AR-15s to register them with the state... saying they wouldnt use the registrations to confiscate the weapons... then a few years later they did confiscate the weapons of everyone who registered them...

The best advice I can give you is to stay away from The People's Republic of Kalifornia, but that's just me.
