Reviews and Experiences with Guns

Hey all,

I just figured we ought to have this thread to review and talk about our various experiences with guns.

Well here's mine:

I've had a good amount of experience with Beretta 92fs, and the S&W Sigma .40

I'm not sure what type of ammo i used, because i usually don't pay attention to it.

Eitherway when i first fired the Sigma i found that it was much more accurate, though the trigger was very mushy. (probably due to the glock style safety of "longer trigger travel") That type of trigger imho has it's good and bad points, the good being that you can squeeze it without any variation in pressure and thus get off a more accurate shot...the bad being..well you don't really know when it's going to finally shoot.

Still, the sigma 40 is pretty accurate...i think the best i got ~ 5" groupings (bear in mind i'm not a professional shooter) @ 25 feet (or was it yards?)

The 92fs was bought for me for my birthday...i'm a big fan of the Beretta series. It's (her? hehe i call her betsy ) safety system suits my preferences quite well. When engaged, the gun decocks itself, and the trigger is no longer works the hammer...(sorry that sounded bad). What's also cool is that the rear of the firing pin turns upwards...so there's no way for the gun to accidently discharge..(though i believe there's also other mechanics in the gun to prevent it from discharging when dropped.

There's also another spiffy thing..when a round is chambered, there is a visible line of red on the shell extractor (but i think the paint fell off...cuz now it's no longer visible... )

Now shooting the gun is uber comfortable, most likely due to the ergonomic shape of the handle (well it's comfortable in comparison to the sigma). At first when i shot the gun, i found that i was highly inaccurate...so this gun IMO needs alot more getting used to than the sigma. However once used to it..i was about to get about 3-4" in groupings...great stuff.

Oh yeah one more thing...they're both easy to field strip, but i guess most pistols are

(Tongue in cheek review follows):

M-16A2/M-4 - Great rifle. Very reliable. good accuracy (the M-4 suffers a bit), and easy to maintain. The 62 grain ball round (M855) offers a flat enough trajectory that hits are quite realistic out to about 300 meters.

M-249 - The SAW is a spiffy little bullet hose, thought the rate of fire could use to be tuned down a bit. Since you are still only firing a 5.56mm round it seems unnecessary to put 12 rounds through a person, especially when the M-240B is used on light vehicles.

M-240B (and C) - I thought there would never be a weapon good enought to replace the vaunted M60, untill I fired the 240. The boys in Belgium knew what they were doing when they produced this thoroughbred of firepower. Reliable, accurate, and just plain fun to shoot.

M-9 - This pistol does not have enough weight to be effective when thrown at the enemy, about all it is good for.

Mark 19 - Although it may look like the Volvo (boxy but good) of weapons, the Mark 19 belt fed automatic 40mm grenade launcher holds the corners better than any weapon half it's caliber. The experience will leave a smile on your face long after the craters have stopped smoking.

M-242 - The Bushmaster has its faults, to be sure. It weighs about 300 lbs, takes forever to maintain, and has to be carried around in a BFV, but other than that it is great. There is something to be said for killing targets at two kilometers before they know you've fired...

TOW-2B - Hatches? We don't need no stinking hatches....

Ruger 10/22

In my opinion the 10/22 is the most fun you can have with a firearm. At about $200 it's also about the cheapest. You can get it in many configurations including blued or stainless, fiberglass, walnut, or laminated stocks, and bull barrels. There are all sorts of accessories, and it's very accurate and reliable. You just can't beat it.

I have a Glock 17. Love her (Tonya). Accurate even out to 100 yards. Its amazing. I shoot Winchester 9mm from Walmart. 100 rounds for 12 bucks. Cant beat it.
I also own a Bushmaster AR-15 E2S 20" with break. She (Alyssa) is the love of my collection. I can hold 3" groups at 300 yards prone. Shoot South African surplus 55gr FMJ through it. I stay away from Russian stuff as I dont like steel casings in my rifle.
The latest gun I bought was my Savage FP10LE with a 6x-18x power Bushnell scope. Havent really tested the accuracy with it yet. I know I can put a round through a 1/2 inch hole at 100 yards with it. I shoot Lake City Match Grade surplus at 168gr. Its a very accurate round, what most snipers at least used to use.

Haven't had a chance to use the A2 yet. Too bad, since i've heard good things about the new rifling and the more powerful cartridge, as compared to the A1.

I know this baby as the GPMG, by FN. GREAT gun. Definitely my favorite gun of all time. And thats including 25mm cannon, 40mm grenade launchers, .50 Caliber MGs, 84mm recoiless rifles, assorted assault rifles and SAWs.

Rugged, and very very durable. Nothing like ripping a few belts off. Barrel change is easy too. And it doesn't hurt that both the vehicle mounted and grunt mounted weapons are the same thing.....

very nice weapon. Its a bitch to pull through the barrel though. And you gotta baby it a bit. I'll never forget the time we forgot to time both sections before assembling the thing. And of course this was during a live firing. So yayy to live HE rounds stuck in malfunctioning cannon.

My goodness. I'd love to put some reviews, but so many guns have passed through my hands that I wouldn't know where to start.

Last time I was at the range we had to wait for 3 hours when the track in front of us did the same thing...

OOC what platform were you on, Warrior?

I wish I was on a Warrior, or on a Bradley...

One of these.... mounted on a M113A3.

Kinda ghetto, if you ask me. No stabilization, so I can't shoot on the move. Gunner/Commander in 1 role. So you can't really concentrate. So perhaps its a good thing that I couldn't fire on the move.

Heh, it was at a static range, so no big shakes. And it was the weapons mechanic who pulled that stunt........

That's ghetto as hell! I love it! Now I see why you had trouble getting the barrel out. On the M3 the trunnion guides it right into the reciever.

Oh, well, at least the M113A3 is a good little track (better than the A2s at any rate)...

Sorry to the rest for hijacking the thread....

Its kind of a mix between the A3 and the A2. The fuel tank is still internal, as opposed to the A3's internal tanks. As you can see, we operate a lot in heavily wooded terrain. The external fittings tend to take a lot of knocks from trees and what not. So I guess thats why they've kept it internal. We do have the new engine and transmission and suspension and the other goodies though.

We're phasing the M113's out gradually though, in favor of a more modern IFV. I think the new one got into the final 5 vehicles that contended for that new Stryker brigade in the US army.

Its easy putting the barrel in, but we have this half-assed rule that we had to keep the barrels in the armory. Which is hellava far from the vehicle.

Just graduated from a college in upstate NY.

In my country, you have to do compulsory military service for 2.5 years....
so I ended up in what we call Armored Infantry, which is probably equivalent to Infantry in the US army? or Mechanized infantry...

tracks are fun.... but the maintenance sucks ass....
