How to network my apple with my PC?
I recently purchased an Apple Powerbook G4 with built in Airport Extreme wireless. Along with this, I bought a Netgear wireless router.
So far, I have my broadband hooked up to the wireless router, which is hooked up to my PC. My powebook is also connected to the internet via the wireless router. My question is: How do I get a network going between my powerbook and my pc? I'd like to be able to use my printer (which is hooked up to the PC) to print from the powerbook. I've tried running network wizard, but no matter what I try it always says an error has occured (and can't find another computer). Details: The PC is running Windows XP Pro and the powerbook is running the latest OS X.

First you need to make sure that permissions are set on both computers.
1) On the PC make sure you have either a shared drive or folder. All you need to do is right click on the drive or folder and choose "sharing and security" and click on "share this folder on the network" or similar for the hard drive. 2) On the mac go to the System Preferences and choose "Sharing". Under services select "personal File Sharing" and "Windows Sharing"...you might to select a few more for remote login and/or ftp. By selecting the line you want to select the bottom of the screen will you indications on how to connect from a windows machine. From the desktop scroll down the go menu to "Connect to server..." and select it. Try the browse button to see if it automaticaly finds your PC. If ti does you need to select it and probably enter the login and password of your PC (or an acount that has been created for remote login from it). It will then ask you to chose the shared folder (ther one from the pc) and that will mount in the finder and on the desktop. 3) back on the pc you can right click on "My network places" to "search for computers" and use the ip address of the mac. You will probably have access only to the "Public Folder" on the mac unless you share folders on it. Select a folder and do a "get info" from the file menu and select the "Ownership and permissions" to give proper rights. Much of this relies on permissions from either side. good luck

Also make sure the printer is compatible to print with the Powerbook. Now i know this sounds wierd but even if the mac has drivers for the printer that doesnt mean it can print wirelessly using the PC. What printer would it happen to be? I had a canon photo printer and it would not work because of a driver issue.

I had no problems with step 1. I did the first part of step 2, but when it came time to "connect to server..." I found my PC on the list, but when I tried to connect to it, a window popped up and asked for my login/pw. I gave the correct information, but it says "The alias "SPRITEBOX" could not be opened because the original name was not found."
I can, however, transfer files from my PC to my mac and from the mac to the PC using the PC. I still can't print from the mac. Edit: The printer is a Lexmark X5270

I used a program called PC Maclan. They offer a demo on their website. It's let me mount all my PC drives on my mac, and did most of the work for me. It has a program for printing, but I have not been successful getting it to work yet

As I said earlier, it has to do with permissions. You may try to enter your login and password for and from your PC when you try to connect. You shoudn't need Maclan to connect and since you allready see the network, half the job is allready done.
The printer is available through your network so again, getting your mac to connect to the PC should nearly solve that problem. Make sure you share your pc printer by right clicking and giving access to it or your mac won't be able to see it. To see your printer from your mac go to the system prefs, and choose Print & Fax to open up the panel. Go to set up printers and press add.from the top drop down menu choose Windows printer and wait for your PC to be recognised (again, you need to make sure you can connect your mac to pc before this will work). You will need to enter the login and password again and it should bring up your printer after for you to selct. You may have to give it the Model and company but mine appeared right away.
