Alright, I have some emulation tools for games that I own on my PC since it saves me the burden of having an NES, Sega, N64, and PS2 all hooked up to the same TV, not to mention it makes my Gameboy games bigger and more pleasurable to play

So, here's the deal. I want to get one of those converters to use my Dualshock PS2 controller on my PC. (See: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...ducts_id=3176& ) But, the PS2 controller has 4 buttons (not counting, L and R buttons, etc) while a Sega Genesis controller has 6.

So, who has had experience 1) using one of these converters and how well do they work? and 2) using a PS2 or other 4 button (not technically, you know what I mean) controller for games made for a 6 button controller? How difficult is it?

I've got one from radio shack, and it works great. Generic HID joystick driver wors fine in linux

There used to be something called a PSJoy that worked beautifully but I'm not too sure they are

a) around anymore
b) compatible with analog sticks

I currently play N64 games and back off of a generic PS2 type USB controller. Eventually you can get used to the settings and the button configuration doesn't matter anymore.

i had a kiki-joy or something like that...it sucked bad. The latency was horrible. Now I use a blue usb adapter that has a ps2 and an n64 input on it and it works perfectly. Timing is great and it kicks ass on mame.

Ususally the emu lets you remap the buttons to any config you want. The only thing I've run into is that having the analog button "on" on the ps2 controller messes up the button mapping on some older games.

Mine is a different shade of blue but otherwise the same:

I bought one of those Radio Shack joystick adaptors as well and it works flawlessly. So good that I bought another one the next day. I can use other Playstation compatible joysticks with it as well - so I use my Namco Stick for most emulation and my dual shocks for anything that needs analog. It's flawless.

BTW - the Radioshack one is only $10

OK, so, here's a new thing that I'm debating over regarding this....

I have a PS2 and one PS2 controller. I really like the PS2 controller and I suppose I might in the future, if I ever got any 2 player games, get a second one. Although, I don't find it overly likely.

I also have an N64 with, of course, an N64 controller.

So, there is the option....do I get one of those converters with 2 PS controller ports or one of the ones with one PS controller port and one N64 controller port. I wouldn't say it's overly likely that I would play 2 player games through emulation, but it's probably more likely that I would do that than on the physical PS2.

Anyways, what do you think? I figure, perhaps, if I were to start playing 2 player games to any degree on my comp, using 2 PS controllers would be likely the best way to go since the PS2 controller rocks. But, of course, I already own an N64 controller. *shrug*

my two cents:

1) N64 games are a little weird with ps/ps2 controller
2) Unless your running the games to a TV, playing 2P in front of the pc isn't comfortable.
3) If you want to do 2P on a PC, I'd use 2 PCs <a href="http://www.kaillera.com/download.php" target="_blank">*kaillera*<a>

Hmm, thanks for the thoughts.

Unfortunately, I can't even find an N64 emulator that works, so *shrug* but I'm not sure I see why it would be any more weird than Sega games or anything else with a PS2 controller. Either way, the DualShock has no less buttons or anything than the N64 controller so I'm curious if you could elaborate exactly what's weird about it.

As for 2 player in front of a PC being uncomfortable....point taken and something I hadn't considered. Like I said, it's not something that I'll be doing too often at all really, just something to consider when making the buying decision. I do have a 19in monitor though so I figure if need be we can always sit back away from the monitor

I guess the feel's not that bad. Laziness has led me to play mario kart/golden eye a few times with the ps2 contoller. Games where the trigger plays a signifigant role seem a little strange.

Edit: I lied. I do play RidgeRacer64 with the PS2 controller....
