LCD or CRT ?
Mondak's thread inspired me to ask this.
I have a 4 year old+ 17'' CRT and it hasnt let me down yet. It does almost everything I ask it to and I have no complaints with it. So, what type of monitor do you use?

I have a CRT, but not for long.
Seriously, my wife's 15inch LCD kicks my ass. It is totally bright and nice. I really like it and can't wait to get rid of this POS 19inch

Shit' I'll gladly take a 19" for a ride, my 17" has a nice fat fuzzy spot in the middle of it, and its a visual irritant if there ever was one.

I had a 17" emachines CRT for 5 years..... I just got a new 21" Sony Flat-tube Trinitron for my birthday.
I personally would rather have more screen space with a CRT than spend the same amount of money on a smaller LCD.

My main monitor is an lcd. (which i don't have here atm)
We have 3 CRT monitors in the computer room, an lcd that hangs out beside the couch, and all the rest are laptops. I prefer lcd 100x to a CRT monitor, I just find them alot easier to look at.

21" CRT. I want a big screen. If I paid the same $500 for a LCD, that'd be what, 17"? And I still notice an ammount of flickering that annoys me on LCDs... at least on the ones I can afford. I just don't see any performance advantage to an LCD, when there is I will get one. But until then, I don't really care how much space my monitor takes up, so I'm sticking with CRT, even for new purchases.

The college has LCD screens and sometimes, especially during the longer classes, I'll get a headache that sticks around for the rest of the day. I don't know if it's the monitor or the actual class. I guess I'll have to do some independent research when school starts back up
I have had a big ass CRT for about 3 years and I think it's fine. I sit in front of it for hours at a time and it hasn't failed me yet.

I stuck with my CRT. I've got designer friends who swear the colors are "truer". Whatever. I'm cheap so I'll stick with my 17" CRT until the LCD prices come down more.

I have a gaming computer connected to a SONY 36" HDTV monitor, which is different than a standard HDTV, and it is fine for that. Graphics are <strike>gorgus</strike> very nice, it is not great at text though.
I have a 19" Samsung digital for the (191t+) other computer and it was beautiful. Well, for a few hours. I need to rma it already. The lcd was <strike>gorgeause</strike>, gorgeous, when it worked and I had no regret buying it. It did everything fine for me on that computer, (photo, video) while it lasted. The lcd replaced my 21" Trinitron and the size was the major selling point for me. It was pricey, but performed excellently, albeit for a short while and gave me a lot of desktop space back to throw stuff on. |

Just got me a 21" Samsung LCD (213T) - I LOVE IT!
It runs native on 1600x1200, text/icons felt small for only a couple of hours. It is simply an amazing experience! To rotate it 90 degrees and look at documents, pdf's and my photos full screen is wetting my pants.

LCD all the way, if I had the cash I would be giving my 900nf to my bro and buying another 19" LCD. The ease of moving them around is just amazing, I go to a few LANs in a year so its always nice to be able to throw your computer and monitor into the same strap and lug them around in one hand. Also the shear wow effect they have on the crowd I game with is enough for me (Living in Nova Scotia Canada, many people dont have access to things like a LCD monitor hehe )

I have a NEC flat display CRT. I will probably stick with the CRT since the LCD's blur too much during FPS games. If they would get rid of the blur and make the prices a bit lower I might switch. Until then I will Stick with the CRTs.

LCD at school--I love it.
Dual CRTs at home. I also love them--they are nice Sony Trinitrons. I would like to replace them with LCDs for the sexiness factor, but dont have the money. I also have a few laptops. Im on my main one right now 14" monitor--nothing big, but it works just fine.

Ya gotta go with an LCD (even though it's alot more $). I picked one up at Costco for under $400 (17" Princeton). It kicks ass! Sharp picture (especially for games). Well worth it. Get one.

I have a 19in perfect flat CRT (viewsonic).
LCD don't 'shadow' nearly as much as they used to, but its still fairly noticable at times. Viewsonic and HP have some of the crispest looking LCD screens I've seen around. My main gripe was the way the brightness/contrast adjusted. the LCD always seemed to be overly bright, even with it adjusted way down. I also need my 1600x1200 res, and even some of the larger LCD's have a max of 1280

I'm using a 17" CRT that I've had for a long time. I love it, and it was only $170 about 3-4 years ago. I'll buy a LCD when they're cheap, dependable, have really good refresh rates, and if someone figures out how to fix the brightness problem. -Lasereth
