Viewsonic and HP have some of the crispest looking LCD screens I've seen around. My main gripe was the way the brightness/contrast adjusted. the LCD always seemed to be overly bright, even with it adjusted way down.

Thank you!! I'm glad me and my brother aren't crazy. My uncle got a new Dell with a 15" LCD and we could not get it dark enough for our lives. It still looks fucked up despite our efforts of messing with the contrast/brightness. Why are they so light/bright?

I heard you can get dead pixels on LCD's?

Yeah, and even places as reputable as NewEgg won't take back LCDs unless they have 9 or more dead pixels. Having 8 dead pixels scattered around the screen would annoy the shit outta me.
I'm using a 17" CRT that I've had for a long time. I love it, and it was only $170 about 3-4 years ago. I'll buy a LCD when they're cheap, dependable, have really good refresh rates, and if someone figures out how to fix the brightness problem.
