LCD or CRT ?
Mondak's thread inspired me to ask this.
I have a 4 year old+ 17'' CRT and it hasnt let me down yet. It does almost everything I ask it to and I have no complaints with it. So, what type of monitor do you use? |
I have a CRT, but not for long.
Seriously, my wife's 15inch LCD kicks my ass. It is totally bright and nice. I really like it and can't wait to get rid of this POS 19inch |
Shit' I'll gladly take a 19" for a ride, my 17" has a nice fat fuzzy spot in the middle of it, and its a visual irritant if there ever was one.
|
LCDs are nice but... i don't have money for it, lol. i'll stick to my 17 inch crt. got some funky birds on the top left corner too =P
|
Brand new 19" CRT, 125bucks versus 700+ for an LCD 19". Deskspace be damned ill save the cash and look fabulous doing so.
|
I had a 17" emachines CRT for 5 years..... I just got a new 21" Sony Flat-tube Trinitron for my birthday.
I personally would rather have more screen space with a CRT than spend the same amount of money on a smaller LCD. |
My main monitor is an lcd. (which i don't have here atm)
We have 3 CRT monitors in the computer room, an lcd that hangs out beside the couch, and all the rest are laptops. I prefer lcd 100x to a CRT monitor, I just find them alot easier to look at. |
17" CRT right now.
I was gonna get a 19" LCD soon, but I'm just gonna get two 19" CRT's to go along with an ATI 9800 PRO. ;) |
19" Envision LCD
Piced it up at that costco's black friday deal ($399) I will never go back to a crt. |
dual 17's right now. They were free and I dont' have the cash for LCD's
|
My new 15" Emachines lcd monitor is great. Minimum deskspace and a great picture.
|
17 inch LCD and it fucking rules
|
21" CRT. I want a big screen. If I paid the same $500 for a LCD, that'd be what, 17"? And I still notice an ammount of flickering that annoys me on LCDs... at least on the ones I can afford. I just don't see any performance advantage to an LCD, when there is I will get one. But until then, I don't really care how much space my monitor takes up, so I'm sticking with CRT, even for new purchases.
|
The college has LCD screens and sometimes, especially during the longer classes, I'll get a headache that sticks around for the rest of the day. I don't know if it's the monitor or the actual class. I guess I'll have to do some independent research when school starts back up :)
I have had a big ass CRT for about 3 years and I think it's fine. I sit in front of it for hours at a time and it hasn't failed me yet. |
Ha, mine has funky birds too 'cept it's a 15 inch LCD :D (ViewSonic)
Needed it because of space demands at school.. Quote:
|
I stuck with my CRT. I've got designer friends who swear the colors are "truer". Whatever. I'm cheap so I'll stick with my 17" CRT until the LCD prices come down more.
|
Viewsonic A75f 17" has been my monitor for the last 3 years, loving it ever since.
Untill there is some real reason to upgrade it, it wont happen on its own. |
Nothing beats a good high quality tube monitor....:)
|
I have a gaming computer connected to a SONY 36" HDTV monitor, which is different than a standard HDTV, and it is fine for that. Graphics are <strike>gorgus</strike> very nice, it is not great at text though.
I have a 19" Samsung digital for the (191t+) other computer and it was beautiful. Well, for a few hours. I need to rma it already. The lcd was <strike>gorgeause</strike>, gorgeous, when it worked and I had no regret buying it. It did everything fine for me on that computer, (photo, video) while it lasted. The lcd replaced my 21" Trinitron and the size was the major selling point for me. It was pricey, but performed excellently, albeit for a short while and gave me a lot of desktop space back to throw stuff on. |
21" LCD replaced my 21 trintron, deskspace , weight and portrait mode was the kicker for me.
samsung, text isnt as crisp as my trinny, colours aren't as fab, brightness is better. but i can live with that |
Definately LCD monitors kick butt ;)
I have a 15" ViewSonic LCD Flatscreen. Very nice on the eyes. |
15" Apple Studio Display. I love it, but could've got more bang for my buck. O-well..I'm happy, if poor.
|
Just got me a 21" Samsung LCD (213T) - I LOVE IT!
It runs native on 1600x1200, text/icons felt small for only a couple of hours. It is simply an amazing experience! To rotate it 90 degrees and look at documents, pdf's and my photos full screen is wetting my pants. |
I have a 19" Samsung Syncmaster 900nf. It's a pain in the ass to lift and takes up a huge amount of space, but I love it. In a few years, I'll get an LCD and have a dual-monitor setup.
|
17" Sony LCD- Fanfuckingtastic.
|
LCD all the way, if I had the cash I would be giving my 900nf to my bro and buying another 19" LCD. The ease of moving them around is just amazing, I go to a few LANs in a year so its always nice to be able to throw your computer and monitor into the same strap and lug them around in one hand. Also the shear wow effect they have on the crowd I game with is enough for me ;) (Living in Nova Scotia Canada, many people dont have access to things like a LCD monitor hehe )
|
They had a widescreen LCD at Best Buy that had to have been a 21" diagonal, but I'm not absolutely sure ...
The machine it was on was playing the new Unreal Tournament game. Made me drool ... |
I have a NEC flat display CRT. I will probably stick with the CRT since the LCD's blur too much during FPS games. If they would get rid of the blur and make the prices a bit lower I might switch. Until then I will Stick with the CRTs.
|
running the dell 1800FP. I love this monitor, plenty of real estate, and no noticeable ghosting. Got it about a year ago for $400.
|
Also running the dell 18 inch ultrasharp. I will never go back to a CRT monitor. The picture is great and the realestate it saves is amazaing.
|
LCD at school--I love it.
Dual CRTs at home. I also love them--they are nice Sony Trinitrons. I would like to replace them with LCDs for the sexiness factor, but dont have the money. I also have a few laptops. Im on my main one right now :D 14" monitor--nothing big, but it works just fine. |
17" LCD came with my Dell for free. I love it. Although, I do know I can get a 19" CRT for a little over $100. I keep thinking of getting one for my old PC. I have been thinking about it for about 6 months now. I should do it soon.
|
Nec MultiSync LCD1760V 17" lcd here.. absolutly love it. It is even perfect or games.. pretyt much no ghosting with its 16ms refresh rate.
|
Ya gotta go with an LCD (even though it's alot more $). I picked one up at Costco for under $400 (17" Princeton). It kicks ass! Sharp picture (especially for games). Well worth it. Get one.
|
I have a 19in perfect flat CRT (viewsonic).
LCD don't 'shadow' nearly as much as they used to, but its still fairly noticable at times. Viewsonic and HP have some of the crispest looking LCD screens I've seen around. My main gripe was the way the brightness/contrast adjusted. the LCD always seemed to be overly bright, even with it adjusted way down. I also need my 1600x1200 res, and even some of the larger LCD's have a max of 1280 |
I wish I had an LCD monitor. That would be so useful for LANs.
|
I have a 19" viewsonic crt. I have never seen an lcd that I liked.
|
I have my little 17" CRT here chugging away for four years.
I heard you can get dead pixels on LCD's? |

I'm using a 17" CRT that I've had for a long time. I love it, and it was only $170 about 3-4 years ago. I'll buy a LCD when they're cheap, dependable, have really good refresh rates, and if someone figures out how to fix the brightness problem. -Lasereth |
19" CRT for home. It's my baby. Never let me down.
19" LCD (DVI, hell yeah) for college (my dorm room desk is too small for a CRT). |
