Firefox will no longer save most login/passwords
Nor does even clicking the "remember" me button on my login pages (this applies to all websites btw, not just TFP). Really weird...Had a firefox update a month or two ago and now they no longer work. At first I didn't care much, just typed stuff in manually, now I'm getting really tired of it. Also keep in mind some websites *do* work, but only a few. Also, I've tried clearing my password saved list in Firefox, redoing those settings, etc. Nada. Any ideas?

Quit Firefox, go to your profile folder, and trash the files key3.db and signons.sqlite. Firefox will create new ones on restart. It is possible you have some corruption in one of those files. Obviously, you'll have to recreate all of your passwords after doing this.
Another possibility is that you have set your Privacy options to clear passwords on exit. If you need more instructions that what I just wrote, let me know.

You could try: KeePass Password Safe
Its supports autofill in your browser, it has more secure encryption, and it has a mobile app. |

Umm... weird. Try reading Profile folder - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base to locate your profile folder, I'm thinking that you still missed it somehow. (It's in different places depending on your OS.)

Hah, so one day later*... Found those files, thanks Red. It did reset it, but it didn't fix my problem. The websites that weren't autofilling still aren't working. Maybe it's the specific websites and not firefox (hotmail is one, does that tend to have problems?)
*Since it reset everything, tfp autofill went bye bye too and I realized I had my account tied to an old email I don't have anymore so I couldn't retrieve my password. Thanks Cyn for fixing it. |

Hotmail tries to prevent the saving of passwords. I found Save Yahoo & Hotmail Passwords in Firefox which gives a workaround.

Thanks.
Maybe I'm just being dense, but I'm confused on how to use it. Am I right in thinking I have to open both my email and that page* then go to that page and click on of that link turn off the thing? Im doing that but its not working on yahoo or hotmail. I must be missing a step. * http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarkle...ember_password edit: yay figured it out and it works! Woot! (I hadn't dragged the ap to my toolbar) Thank you! Last edited by Zeraph; 10-23-2009 at 12:42 PM.. |

Actually scratch that. Yahoo is now working with autofill but damn hotmail eludes me.
Do you know anything about frmget to post my stuff with?(from same page) It says there are security issues with it. I know its only email but still.. edit, looks like frmget is a wash anyway, hotmail just wont work with it. says i have wrong pass/login even tho its right. Well, the only other thing I can see out there is a possible cookie issue; shut down Firefox, take cookies.sqlite out of your profile folder (but note that you will loose all current cookies), and restart Firefox.

Is there a reason you haven't tried KeePass yet? It's very secure.
Does hotmail login go through windows live ID for you? Also, try going to Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Clear Recent History -> Details Select everything except browsing history. Last edited by tcp; 10-23-2009 at 01:58 PM.. |

I haven't tried it b/c I've had firefox work for me in the recent past and wanted to get that back up since that's what I already know. Now tho I'll probably try that as I'm having problems with yahoo again for some reason. |

ietab?
im stuck on this too. been thinking about it, and one solution is to use ietab (lets you run IE in Firefox tab) and configure it to switch to IE when you go to the hotmail site. as the password gets stored in IE rather than firefox (i think) the problem should go away (i guess)
thing is, i cant get it to work! IE tab switches to IE, but no password. dont really see why... edit: scratch that - it works! just never click logout of hotmail and it gets you straight in. ie tab is really useful if you configure it to automatically switch when you go to windows update, skydrive, or any other site that'll just be 'better' in IE Last edited by turrican; 11-03-2009 at 02:26 PM.. |

I've had this issue too for a couple of months. It is possible that the updates that have come through have something to do with this. I should think that putting sites that require passworded log-ons into your exceptions/allow should be enough, but it isn't. So I spend the extra 12 seconds logging into everything...so far my life on the whole has not been adversely affected.

Just a thought... is it possible you've set firefox to automatic private browsing at some point? If you do, it starts up in private browsing, but doesn't tell you that it is. In that mode, it won't save passwords or auto-fills. You can check by looking under tools... if "Stop Private Browsing" is greyed out, you're in private browsing mode.
