Update: Well, I am still deciding on whether I can afford to do this. Some recent events have me thinking this with double the caution. When I am sure I can afford this, rest assured that I will tell you about the build.

I don't know if you've built this beast or not. I'm working on one myself. parts should be here for it on Wednesday. Anyway, my major comments are on the CPU and the MOBO.
CPU: go for the e8400 its 15-20 bucks saved that you could be spending on a GPU. they only difference is the Ghz, which since they have the same L2 cache, you'll never notice the difference. Mobo: I bought a gigabyte UD3R. People love the board, it has alot of great overclocking features, if thats your thing, and its right around the same price. it's not SLI ready, but honestly, if you did in that case, it would run way too hot (without water cooling). I havn't heard much about foxxconn, and they dont have any great reputation that i can see. GPU: Go hard or go home. Just playing. The more i read about cards, the bigger and badder i want. right now, there are great deals on the Geforce 9800 GXT+ (100-150) at tiger direct and other places. The Geforce line is due for a major price cut with the GTX 295 and 55nm chips comming out, so just keep an ear to the streets, look to newegg for rebates, but take your time, and read read read reviews and comparisons. Goodluck

i believe the 285 is the 280 with a smaller processor...the 55nm version. in the case of the 260 they made chip smaller but they also diminished the fan, making it about the same temp, somehow they also made it less overclockable (from reviews i've read, probibly because of the smaller fan.) It doesn't make sense to me that this should be a cheaper card because the 55nm chips are cheaper to make, instead they are 50 dollars more than thier power hungry 65nm brothers. So i think i'm waiting for the GTX260 core 215 to come down. it has better power saving tech and i think it'll still be a viable card a year or so from now, unlike the 9800 GTX+ which seems outdated (it's a 8800 w/ hybrid tech). and if you're gunna spend the money on a 295, wait til the end of the year, the 300 series will be out and it'll support DX 11.

Ran into this today: XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512MB DDR3 256-bit 600 MHz PCI-E 2.0 SLI DirectX 10 Video Card
I think it's a good deal. Any reason I shouldn't get this one instead of the eVGA?

Good news: I'm finishing getting the funds necessary and the confidence, so I will be ordering this dismantled beast next week.
