the leftover video embedding websites.
What I was wondering, besides the obvious automatically embedding feature for youtube, what other sites are on that list that actually work properly?
I've noticed that if you post a specific image page for flickr, it will automatically embed into the post, but will look all wrong, with a black box stating "this video is no longer available on flickr"; and I'm sure that sites like video.google and metacafe embed, but I'm also more than overjoyed that those latter two sites also have a [tag] feature, so I've never really experimented to find out if a straight video link from either site embeds or not. Furthermore, I read an explanation provided by Cynthetiq towards a question about vimeo videos asked by Shauk, and how that one website is harder to make workable tags for because some owners of videos disallow the embedding feature to work anywhere other than the original splash page where the video resides. It's kind of weird knowing that, but still, when you post a vimeo video link in a post, about a quarter of the time it actually embeds as a workable, clickable box for viewing, and all other times, it's a standard redirection link. So, what I'd really like to come of this attention is just an initial listing of satellite sites I could use other than youtube for video embedding, and then perhaps later, with help and time, of course, maybe a few new [tags] to be implemented into the forum's capabilities. Would that be possible? PS This question and topic for garnering "video embedding trick" knowledge originally stemmed from last week, when I noticed that Dailymotion updated the way it displayed its videos on its site, and then in turn, I came to realize that their upgrade also affected the way their videos embedded on this forum, which is to say all the videos now just display as medium-sized blank white boxes.

As most of the sites are changing from static and predictably paths to something more SEO friendly, it's gotten harder and harder to keep up.
There are about 250 original sites that embed with the mod I installed. This has whittled down to a more reasonable number based on our community and discussion requirements. The rest of these are under constant assault because well, think of how images before were protected from hotlinking, the sources are doing the same for video. I haven't checked in some time, but the problem with it is just like the vimeo site, things just change and you cannot predict or control what happens. But just like rexed images, one can go back and edit the post and alter the link to not use the auto media embed feature and it will just be a direct link.

Alright. That makes sense (the hotlinking - video embedding comparison, constant updating, etc..)
As of right now, I still rely on the original tag embedding thread that you and Halx set up a couple of years ago, and as far as I know, every site there (ranging from metacafe, revver, youtube, and googlevideo) still work properly when placed inside their respective tagging functions. Besides those few sites, the only two other sites that I think I know still work, and show within any given thread, are youku (some Chinese video hoster) and pornhub (I only saw the box though, never bothered to click and see if the video played correctly in TFP). I guess what I wanted to know is could there be an update to the way the forum's vbulletin displays and handles video-hosting websites' embeddable features, and we can choose just a handful more to also be given the [tag] treatment? I do know this may not be an overnight process to be remedied with a flick of a moderator's knob, but I do want to be able to rely on alternative trusted resources other than having to find a youtube version of the video that may or not be there. Last little question: do either ebaumsworld or break.com videos embed here? I thought I saw one or two posted by Halx a long while ago, but I have had little luck managing them on my own.

thought I'd give an update: what I saw as peculiar yesterday is as I was updating a thread, I came upon a Dailymotion video box in the forum that was not blanked out, but fully-functional as a video player, although it looked different from how it once did when linked.
The thing is, the video only worked once, and after numerous refreshes of the page, the interactive video display didn't show again, and the box reverted back to the white space. -=Test=- Just seeing if it displays properly:

didn't want to create another thread to discuss this small tehcnical issue, but there's something wrong here:
I can no longer view any of youtube's embeddable video boxes, not just here, but everywhere. (just checked, yeah everywhere but on a specific youtube video page) Is this just a case of my flash/runtime being out-of-date or expired? If that is indeed the case, and I'm just behind on the next lastest and greatest update, which specifically adresses the issue: Adobe Flash for Internet, (89% certain it's this one) or my Java SunSystems?
