When do you and your partner get tested for STD's?
I was just wondering about when everyone in the Tilted Forum decides to get tested for STD's when they're with a new partner.
I'm 19, had 1 relationship in that realm and didn't get tested prior to oral sex. The relationship ended, and I was tested after. In retrospect I would have liked him (and myself although I'd been with no one prior) to get tested before having oral. I worried for months that maybe he had something and had given it to me, he always found an excuse not to get tested while we were dating. Eventually we broke up because he was wanting to move too fast for me, ended up that he regretted it and was tested after we broke up. He was clean (he said, never showed me evidence). Lucky for me at my annual exam, I was clean too. Never again will I engage in any sexual act with a partner who hasn't been tested, I don't ever want to go through being that paranoid again!

I voted on "Not tested at all." but that is only because we haven't been tested since we started going out. I have been tested recently for HIV (Feb '04) and she has only had one partner in the last 5 years.

I give blood every 8 weeks or so, and while that's not a substitute for an AIDS test, I would know if there was a problem. I've had several AIDS tests over the years, not that I live a high risk lifestyle, but you never know... You can't tell someone has something just by looking at them. My yearly gyno appointment tests for all the big STDs, and have always come up clean.
However, I was last tested 5 months ago, and I got a piece of paper that says I'm clean, if I were to have had any sexual activity in those past five months, that sort negates the results of the test ,because they are no longer up to the minute. I wouldn't trust anyone enough to have unprotected sex.

I voted no because me and my girl had had no previous sexual encounters before each other. I trusted her, and I was her first kiss and all. So, we thought it was fine not to get tested.

My rule is that if i don't trust the girl 100% we both get tested before we do anything; I'm clean and want to keep it that way. That being said I didn't have my current g/f get tested because she said she'd only been with one other guy and they were both virgins and I trusted her on that. (Note: I wouldn't extend that same trust to someone I was just hooking up with as opposed to having gone out for several months). There's just too much nasty shit out there and as much as I love sex it isn't worth the risk, and if the girl can't understand my insistence that she get checked, tough, I'll find someone else.

I've been extremely happily married for 13 years now, so don't worry about these things any longer.
However, I teach Wado Ryu (Karate) and compete in tournaments regularly. One of the requirements our associate has for competing is twice annual AIDS tests, so I get tested often.
