What's the best way to get rid of pimples?

Hey guys. I thought I'd ask here because I don't like pimples. I don't have a face full, but I do have 1 or 2.

As well, to the girls out there. If a guy has a couple of pimples, generally is that a HUGE turn-off or can you see past it as a temporary problem?

I believe it's all in prevention more than cure. I used to eat a LOT of junk food as a teen and got much less pimples than other kids that probably ate better. It's all skin and genetics. Just keep your skin clean with a good soap is my guess.

As far as cure goes... get your dermatologist to prescribe acutane. Cured me right up. No relapse.

I'll agree with Halx - accutane did wonders for me. However, there are some unconfirmed side effects - such as depression - that I experienced. Apparently other people have experienced them ( Read more here ), including a Congressman whose son commited suicide while on the drug. If you do decide to take it, just watch out for yourself.

use products with Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs).
Salycilic Acid, for example.

good shit, penetrates well.

and see a derm if that's an option.

Hi, I had moderate acne as a teenager and now I"m 23 and still have occasional breakouts. First of all it's not your diet, so go on eating junk food. My doctor prescribed me several kinds of anti-biotics. He asked me if I wanted to take Acutane when I was 18ish and I said no. Why? It has side effects like possible liver damage. Here in Canada you have to take monthly blood tests while on Acutane.

From a personal standpoint prescription medication + Vitamin A based cream works well. On top of that clean your face well and I find that using your hands to search your face for dried up oil clogging your pores and removing them also helps, usually acne face washes have an abrasive material to do this for you but going over with your hand seems to help.

it seems the less shit you put on there the better... acutane is for extreme cases and has side effects...

obvioulsy you need to keep clean and wash with soap and water... but the less you use all these wipes and acne pads and crap the better i believe... i read on some site somewhere... devoted to acen and stuff... so just try to be less harsh with your face, also may need some other shaving creme if you shave...

drink more water

My dermotologist had my on Retin-A as a teen, worked great for me. and yeah, he also told me it has hardly anything to do with what bad stuff you eat BUT eating healthy food can help.

Modern science tries to convince you that diet is not an issue but it is. Foods high in fat and oil cause you to secrete extra oils through your skin, which arent the direct cause of acne but increase your likelihood of breakout. Ive personally experimented with this keeping my face washing regimen the same but eating pizza and sodas and saw more breakouts during that period and my skin was noticeably more oily by midday then when I had a more sensible diet.

I had bad acne when I was younger so I started using Ivory soap to dry my skin out then added a Vitamin E and Cocoa Butter lotion to soothe the skin. That took care of most of the problem.

Exercise has also been said to have an effect on controlling breakouts but I dont have any proof of that. Be sure to wash your face regularly and keep your hands out of your face. Thats a huge problem that is often ignored.

There is another post under health on this subject.

I would definitely recommend watching your diet. It may be a reaction to something you eat. I have personally cut down on dairy products (especially milk) because I see a correlation with my own skin.

Exercise can help because sweating can help to clean the skin. Think about it. You sweat and the oil and grease is washed out with the sweat. Just be sure to shower and clean up afterwards.

I also recommend Neutragena Oil-Free Facial Wash. It's orange liquid that comes in a hand pump.

If you are a guy and you shave, I like Neutragena's Razor Defense shaving gel.

Good luck.

Just as a side-note, in the US you do as well. It's not a lot of fun to every month go get blood drawn for testing.

- Opt for H2O every time you start to reach for a soda.

- Get 8-9 hours of sleep a night.

- Decrease the stress in your life.

- Wash your face with mild soap or simply rinse your face with COLD water every time you find yourself in a bathroom.

- Use a mild moisturizer on your face, so your skin doesn't attempt to compensate for dry skin.

Eating less of greasy foods and dairy helps your body to run better overall and will get you feeling better about yourself in general, even if people say it won't help your acne. It helps my face, though, to eat a better diet. Fewer meats, more grains.

Believe it or not, a greasy diet has been shown to have little effect on skin condition. Some studies say carbohydrates do have an impact. I can look up the medical studies if you wish.

The odd pimple or two are normal. Acne on the other hand is an acknowledged medical condition and can be treated. But you want to have it bad to really get perscription medication.

All people experience degrees of skin problems during puberty and a for a few years there-after. It is caused by hormone changes in your body. In other words, it's a "normal part" of puberty. Doesn't make it any nicer or easier to handle though.

Contributing factors can also be lack of sleep/rest and stress.

So, changing your diet or drinking a lot of extra water won't have that much of an effect.

Using "medicated face scrubs" can also be unwise as many of these contain small amounts of astringents or even acids to clear away oil and grease. Great for some people but in others it simply encourages the skin to produce more oil and you end up with even greasier skin. In other words, my advice is to stay away from them.

The best thing for your skin (in these circumstances) is moderate exposure to sunlight. The UV rays help "dry out" the skin. However, do not spend hours out in harsh sunlight with no sun-block, as you may end up damaging your complexion or even increasing your risk of melanoma. however, a little bit of sunlight, enough for a mild tan, is excellent in helping you to alleviate oily or spotty skin.

Get rest. Try not to be too stressed either. Both rather difficult for most males in their teens or early twenties, but there you go...

Hope this helps a little.

Now I don't have bad skin but I do have more then my fair share of pimples. I've tred many different things over the years to calm my face down. Nothing has worked. But the funny thing is that with age my face has cleared up about 75%. Now, I'm just worrying about wrinkles.

this is an issue which just might be case specific. i mean, on this thread alone there have been people saying that one thing works and another thing doesnt. why i am bringing this to light you might ask? because i know the secret to riding yourself of acne, and it doesnt come in a bottle or a can. it isnt prescribed by a doctor or dermatologist. it isnt swayed by diet or lifestyle. it is held in the humble domain of a standard steak knife and a high pain tolerance. i trust that you can figure out the rest. have fun.

best natural cure? Eat better, and avoid high stress situations.

As far as medicines go, Proactiv works well and doesn't seem to dry out the skin. I've seen acutane in action. When the treatment is done, the acne is gone for good, but during treatment, prepare for horribly dry skin and massive amounts of flaking.

I've always wondered if masturbation can cause bad acne since it could trigger certain hormones.

i've tried proactiv too, i find it didn't work for me. apparently only like 40-70% of people respond to proactiv, and some actually get worse acne because of it. accutane is still the single best solution out there right now, because it leaves permanent aftereffects and usually pretty much "cures" acne unless it was very bad, in which case it might take 2 courses of 6+months to be "cured". i say cure to mean having practically no acne except for an occasional one, which is nothing compared to what you get used to before using accutane.

I take minnocycline orally once a night and use two different topical medicines, one for day and one for night. What a pain.
