Make me a mixed CD

Well, not literally. I'm not giving my address out to you people

I'm sick of my music collection. I need new music!

I'm looking for some song suggestions. I listen to pretty much anything. Mostly alternative/rock/modern rock stuff. Well, whatever it's called now.

So please list some songs that I should download. Lets see if you, the TFP community, can make me a kick ass mixed CD!

Thanks in advance

I'll just list some songs that I'm favoring right now and maybe a little description or thought on each. Here we go...

Boy Hits Car - Hope
Solid song, a little on the heavy side with a great bassline at the beginning.

A Perfect Circle - Ashes to Ashes (Live David Bowie Cover)
Great cover of great song

Danzig - Mother
The vocals on this song remind me a lot of Jim Morrison. Not a big fan of Danzig's other stuff, but I dig this song.

Desert Sessions - Don't Drink Poison
Desert Sessions is one of the many bands formed from the breakup of Kyuss (of which the most well-known is Queens of the Stone Age). This song has a very haunting and almost familiar melody.

Godspeed You Black Emporer - East Hastings
Being that this song is in the ballpark of 20 minutes in length, I wouldn't put it on a mix CD. However, I am listening to it a lot right now so here it is. Very... progressive sounding. I love the mood and atmosphere it creates.

Nine Inch Nails - Last
Very heavy and uh.... cool sounding song.

O.H.M. - Arm's Reach
To me, this band sounds a lot like Tool if their songs were much shorter and less complicated. The vocals remind me of Maynard. However, from my experiences, their songs are pretty damn hard to come find.

Styx - Renegade
Classic song!

Tool - You Lied (Live Peach Cover from Salival CD)
Great song - Maynard's vocals = kick ass.

Mad Capsule Market - Walk
Great beat, almost industrial sounding

The Damage Manual - Age of Urges
Industrial band - great song

That's all for now, I'll add some more later if I think of anything

Treble Charger- Brand new low (if you liked this song just get the whole Wide Awake Bored CD, it kicks ass)

Splender- wallflower, space boy, or if you prefer something more pop-ish, save it for later.

switchfoot- meant to live

bliss 66- defense, crazy world

matthew good- weapon

steve vai- tender surrender (good instrumental)

Thats all for now, dunno what you have already so im sorry if u already have all these...

well ill toss ya some music to download from bands that i know wont be mad that you downloaded thier music (its a question i ask a lot at shows)

Rx Bandits - Analog Boy, What If, Consequential Apathy, and all of the new album The Resignation

Rock/Reggae fusion ... one of my favorite bands at the moment and just incredible musicians. The new album was recorded live and sounds almost studio quality

Thrice - Phoenix Ignition, Identity Crisis, Under a Killing Moon, The Artist In the Ambulence

Holy wow. These guys can incorperate hardcore/rock/punk like nobody else. Truly powerful music with a positive message.

Rage Against the Machine - Bombtrack, Calm Like a Bomb, Testify, People of the Sun

C'mon, its rage

Dismemberment Plan - Life Of Possibilities

Awesome indie band. Incredibly layered, complex music.

Rancid - Fall Back Down, Radio, Ruby Soho, Maxwell Murder

Feel good punk rock

Elvis Costello - Pump It Up, Less Than Zero, Oliver's Army

His music covers all genres but these songs in particular have a rock/punk feel to them.

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower, Hey Joe, Foxy Lady

Guitar legend, revolutionary.

Pedro the Lion - Indian Summer, Amazing Love

Mellow indie rock. Awesome chill music.

Bouncing Souls - True Believers, Here We Go

Fun, energetic rock.

Poison the Well - Nerdy, Ghostchant

Angry Screamo, gets the blood pumpin.

I read somewhere your really big into dashboard. if your a fan of them, you'd probabaly like bands with an emo flair. Hoover, Sunny Day Real Estate, Christie Front Drive, Promise Ring, Mineral, Sideshow, Get-Up Kids, Further Seems Forever, Braid, Cap'n Jazz, Jets To Brazil, and a REALLY good band called noise ratchet. check em out

Do you like metal? How about extreme metal (death metal, black metal, etc.) If you're looking for some really heavy stuff, I can reccommend good songs, but most people don't really care for it.

Probably quite a bit more than your typical mixed CD can handle, but I am sure it'll be fun to try cramming this in

-Queensryche - Promised Land
-Spock's Beard - The Doorway
-Dredg - Triangle
-Fates' Warning - Part VIII (its really a horrible injustice to listen to just one track of "A Pleasant Shade of Grey", but that album is like one big glorious song, so I gotta pick one... )
-Nightwish - Sleeping Sun
-Uriah Heep - Salisbury
-Opeth - Windowpane
-Tungsten74 - Cut It Off When It...
-Evergrey - She Speaks to the Dead
-Divercia - Eighthundred and Seventynine
-Blind Guardian - Age of False Innocence
-Dream Theater - Home
-King Crimson - The ConstruKction of Light

Okay, I just finished making a mix CD. It is far from the "purist" punk that I listed above. In fact it blends a lot of songs from the past 20 years. There are also a few covers on here.

1) "Margo's Waltz" - Lloyd Cole
2) "Crazy Mary" - Pearl Jam
3) "Baker Street" - Foo Fighters
4) "I'll Never Fall in love again" - Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach
5) "Bluest Eyes in Texas" - Nathan Larson and Nina Perrson
6) "Famous Blue Raincoat" - Tori Amos
7) "Hello" - Poe
8) "The Perfect Kiss" - New Order
9) "Enjoy the Silence" - No Use for a Name
10) "Regular John" - Queens of the Stone Age
11) "I wanna be adored" -The Stone Roses
12) "From Heartbreak to Hate" - Angelfish
13) "Running Up that Hill (Deal with God)" - Kate Bush
14) "The Current" -The Blue Man Group Featuring Gavin Rossdale

well, my tastes change with the wind so let me give you what I just burned for the road trip I'm taking tonight:

1. Dropkick Murphys, "Cadence to Arms"

2. Dropkick Murphys, "Do or Die"

3. The Strokes, "NYC Cops"

4. Reverend Horton Heat, "Like a Rocket"

5. Metallica, "Master of Puppets"

6. Danzig, "Can't Speak"

7. Radiohead, "Street Spirit"

8. Portishead, "Numb"

9. Calexico, "Ballad of Cable Hogue"

10. White Stripes, "Seven Nation Army"

I think a good mix CD is not one that stays in one mode (ie- depressive or aggressive). You also need to make good transitions; whereas, one song doesn't overstep the other song. Personally, I like to start agressive go into mellow and then fade out with a song I am really into at the moment. In this CD mix I laid out, the White Stripes song is the one I'm really into at the moment. Try my mix if you like or create your own with my recipe. I hope I helped.

here are ten songs from my collection that I can NEVER get tired of. all should be easily found on most p2p networks.

1. Jimi Hendrix: Freedom (one of his absolute best, yet almost competely unknown)

2. Led Zeppelin: Wearing and Tearing (from the post-Bonham collection of outtakes called Coda, this is Zep's answer to punk. its more punk than most punk I've ever heard. Fuckin rocks!)

3. David Bowie: Young Americans (great tune for the lyrics alone. the music is excellent also)

4. Queen: anything from the Jazz album. one of the great underrated/unknown albums of all time.

5. Helmet: Unsung (moody punk-metal. great riff)

6. Dire Straits: Telegraph Road (grand, sweeping, epic tune)

7. Frank Zappa: You Are What You Is (what else is there to say but that FZ was a genius)

8. The Knack: My Sharonna (try to get the original album cut and not the single version. the album cut has the extended guitar solo (about 1 min long) which is just excellent.)

9. Montrose: I Got the Fire or Space Station No. 5 (you will be knocked out by Ronnie Montrose's guitar prowess).

10. Queensryche: Eyes of a Stranger (powerful and melodic and intense lyrics)

I could go ON and ON with this list. but Ill stop here.

well, there´s a lot of heavier stuff here.

what about David Gray?

or some jazz with Oscar Peterson (get his solo stuff, i like that better than his trio, esp ´for my friends´)

or some aussie stuff like powderfinger or the whitlams.

i´m not entirely sure how much you know about Crowded House, but i´d definitely recommend that as well...

I'll let you all know how it goes. Thank you for the suggestions!

well, i was gonna start a thread about Spock's Beard (or progressive rock in general) because i was listening to them at the time and hadn't seen many related threads in the short time i've been involved on these boards, so i did a quick search for Spock's Beard to see if anybody had ever even mentioned them here...

so anyway, i would second at least checking them out... and i see lots of other suggestions on this thread that i can get behind, too - the flaming lips, porcupine tree, cowboy junkies, jeff buckley, zappa, queen, queensryche, radiohead, king crimson, godspeed you black emperor...
