Snapshot a Song

"Musical Snapshot Pictorials"

simple concept: combine an interesting picture and a favorite song to produce a linking audio/visual painting.

simple illustration: If you are listening to a song at the time, and decide to procure a search for a cool photo that relates to the title, lyrics, or feeling of the particular song, that's essentially how you can contribute to the thread. Also, if you come across an interesting picture that makes you instantly think of a certain song, this is an acceptable alternative method to associate your aural & ocular senses, so go ahead and post them both.

simple rules: The rules are virtually maleable in all instances, depending on your tastes; all that I ask is that you be as topical as you can in your combinations, (e.g. don't post a picture of an orange and the song, Rambling Man, without a good explanation) please conform to the policy of the TFP and do not post pictures of kids, I don't want this to degrade quickly into all titties and bums, so please hold off on the provocative nudity until page 2 (after 50 replies or so). My most important rule: Be as creative as you can, and revel in the merriment of good tunes and keen art.

simple resources: As a starting point for picture-scavengers, you can try social photography sites like either Picasa, flickr, deviantart, ffffound, photobucket,
and so on, finding your own niche for similar sites that provide tons of visual content, integrated with a search funtion.
For those that don't know where to start on finding that particular song of theirs, you can try searching within YouTube, Grooveshark, Dailymotion,
or you can consult this article for more ideas: Eight (and a half) free Web music players | Webware - CNET.
Conversely, you can upload your songs to sites like eSnips, imeem or DivShare and compile your own playlists from there.

Now this. I've been meaning to address this point in suggestions/support, but I thought it would be too much trouble and notice for something that maybe affects only me. So I let it be.

I don't like the clutter of too many embedded youtube videos, so what I do is immediately after sending a post, I click 'edit, go advanced', and there will be a new box checked that says "Automatically embed media (requires automatic parsing of links in text to be on)." ... I uncheck the box, and my embedded video reverts back into a link.
It helps me unfetter and allow me to post more "cleanly", but sometimes it gets to be a hassle, posting, editing, unchecking, re-posting constantly.

It would look better aesthetically if we didn't flood the thread with embedded videos, so if anybody at followed my rhetoric above, I'd graciously ask if you could remember to always uncheck the "automatically embed media" box; that'd be splendid.

What I am doing right now is listening to online radio (pandora) and from there, I pick up on the vibe of a song, and search within flickr or my own HD for an interestingly-topical pic. Looking forward to the influx of sensual stimuli that will abound (the connotations of the word 'sensual' really makes me sound a tad bit creepier than I am used to).

Technically it's pronounced "Je-Tay", I think, but since I'm learning my French Anglicized, I give major props to anyone who calls me "Jetty" instead.

I made this illustrative post elsewhere in obscurity that now fits in nicely here. It is about the 2006 album The Mouse and The Mask by collab. DangerDoom, and it features about half of the album's songs.

There is a preface provided by biznatch, and the triplicate pictures before the tracklisting state in a visual manner, "Push T(w)o Listen".
[what you need to do is click the embedded links within the pictures themselves to re-direct to an online music player ;
there's eight links in all, & seven of them are musical in nature once you click the anthropomorphized food.]

I forgot to mention, even though I meant it to be implicit, that if you have taken or composed your own photography that you wish to attribute to a soundtrack, do so at your heart's content.
Any original content is welcome here.

-----------------------------------------

I found this song to be a bit difficult to link,
but here is today's listening bump.

Public Enemy - Prophets of Rage

I rang ya bell
Can you tell I got feelin'
Just peace at least
Cause I want it
Want it so bad
That I'm starvin'
I'm like Garvey
So you can see B
It's like that, I'm like Nat
Leave me the hell alone

Perhaps this will help those that are tentative to participate, or those in search of ideas; I was quickly browsing through my contacts' on flickr early this morning, and through a random search query, I serendipitously found this creative set. On topic, it is composed by michele cat, and the set is entitled "lyrical photography". I had no idea she had thought of this idea as well, even though I've had access to her for the past two years. I'm such a bad friend, I never know what's going on.

As it is, check it out if you would like to see a similar portrayal to what is being composed here.

move your mouth into mine soft and sweet
rings of fire round your eyes and I love you
nineteen forty and five is relief...

And when we break we'll wait for our miracle
God is a place where some holy spectacle lies
And when we break we'll wait for our miracle
God is a place we will wait for the rest of our lives

She will feed you tomatoes and radio wires
And retire to sheets safe and clean
But don't hate her when she gets up to leave"

I'm sure I've posted more than a fair share of righteousness in The Longest Thread, but to find them all, is a tall task indeed.

The song became notorious, as it was believed to be honoring the January 22, 1987, public suicide of Pennsylvania state treasurer Budd Dwyer, who shot himself during a press conference with a .357 Magnum. A May 1996 interview with Filter in Addicted to Noise magazine and an official statement by the band confirmed this. Filter later gave the following statement:

The song 'Hey Man Nice Shot' is a reaction to a well-documented public suicide. It is not a celebration or glorification of taking one's own life. The phrase 'hey man, nice shot' is a reference to the final act itself, an expression of guts and determination of a person standing up for what they believe is right. We are extremely sensitive and respectful to the family and friends of Mr. Dwyer. We have both lost friends to suicide and felt nothing but sympathy and loss for the victims, and those involved in such a tragedy.

Oh, let me live
It's not you who I sing for

So don't try to woo me
Don't try to fool me

Honestly, this next song, I had no idea it was played and created by Radiohead, and what's more, this is perhaps the first time I've listened to this song in its entirety.
The picture makes a bit more sense if you envision me as the peeper to the right.

Radiohead - Creep

The Swingle Singers - Hungarian Dance No. 5

A Skip And A Hop by austinhk

Every year the Montreal Jazz Festival has a parade, Louisiana Parade, which is performed daily with music accompaignement of Swing Tonique Jazz Band and the
dance stylings' of Zuruba, a Brazilian style dance/music troupe.

As always the dancers and musicians did not disappoint the loyal legion of fans who attended the festival this year, including the handful of photographers around!.

downloaded this new Radiohead song this morning...

Harry Patch _In memory of_.MP3 - DivShare

'i am the only one that got through
the others died where ever they fell
it was an ambush
they came up from all sides
give your leaders each a gun and then let them fight it out themselves
i've seen devils coming up from the ground
i've seen hell upon this earth
the next will be chemical but they will never learn'

Quote:
Recently the last remaining UK veteran of the 1st world war Harry Patch died at the age of 111.
I had heard a very emotional interview with him a few years ago on the Today program on Radio4.
The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me.
It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death.
It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny.
I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor.

It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us.
I hope we do not forget.

As Harry himself said
"Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims".

Recently the Today program played the song for the first time and now it is available to download from our website.

Please go to Radiohead :: Harry Patch (In memory of) to download the song

The proceeds of this song will go to the British Legion.

To peace and understanding.
Thom

Watching True Blood right now; Is anybody else as uncannily-coincidental as me?

Antsy Pants - Vampire (came up on a random blogged playlist I'm listening to during commercials)
[edited: I think I'm going to stop using imeem streams; they force those who don't subscribe to the service to either register/log in... too much of a hassle]

Thanks again for sharing. That was nice.

It seems I have a tendency not to appeal to the broad spectrum of participation, so I'm happy enough that I at least have one or two recurring subscribers. Makes me glad I don't blog at all.
