Well, although I agree that the older Ferraris are more artisticly styled overall, the 308 series always seemed so common and un-exotic to me, sort of the Lamborghini Jalpa of the Ferrari line. I know it is still a Ferrari and all that and of course I wouldn't mind taking a turn through some twisties with it it's just that If I can think about affording one (you can easily get one for $20-30k) how exotic can they be? I also know that they got better as they went along, the GTB was pretty nice and the 328's were even nicer, it's just that their contemporary stablemates the 512BB and the Testarossa were so much more exotic (IMHO). Don't get me started on the Mondial btw, that thing's just ugly. I'm glad so many out there appreciate the classics, but if I'm going to dream, I'm going to dream BIG.

Well, the NSX started in 1991 i believe. And its design and shape pretty much haven't changed. The c5 corvette however didn't start until (i think) 1997. Now hte C4 was around before the NSX, but personally, i dont think they look anywhere near as similar as the nsx/c5 do. Could be Acura just elaborated on hte c4 on their own car before chevy did though....i dunno.

In my city, all I've seen are 1, Delorean, 1 Ferarri, 3 Vipers, Countless Corvettes.

*yawn* living in northern virginia has desensitized me to the beautiful car. i mean, i still get excited about the limited edition cobra, calloway vette, or Dinan Max 5 series, but as a true car enthusiast, i just have too much on my plate around here. my girl is friends with a hair dresser who drives a 2004 911 twin. probably bought by her lobbyist husband, but whatever. you pretty much have to be driving something valued over $200k to get a second glance around here. seeing that pantera above is great though...probably have only seen one or two of those on the road around here in the last 10 years. love them!!!!!! and those would have to qualify as my rare spots.

A guy drives an NSX to work everyday and I have to pass it everyday in the parking lot.

I'm not sure how rare, but there's a Corvette Stingray on my block.

Seen 3 Bentley's in the same parking lot (could have sworn it was a convention).

A student at my SO's college drives an A8 ($80g car still classifies as rare in my book).

Seen 2 Prowlers on the road.

Had to pass a Porche and Maserati dealer, as well as a Bentley/Rolls/Lotus dealer every day for awhile.

I passed a guy's house once that had 4 porches outside, all were of 80's vintage, and he had a crappy house, but damn did he have good cars.

God, it sucks living in San Diego, seeing people driving in cars like that all the time that don't deserve it.

I saw a Marmon P-57 (heavy truck) a while back. Rather elusive, as they quit making them several years ago, and they were assembeled one at a time.

Saw a Lotus Elan last week. I think it's only the 3rd or forth Lotus I've seen in the wild up here in Canada.

I live in a tourist town on the West Coast with good weather, so we have a lot of old or rare cars around here because 1) no snow or road salt, so they don't corrode, 2) we have a fair number of wealthy people and car customizers who like to have cool rides and show them off, and 3) people like to come here and show off.

Since this is a beach town and has a classic woody club, I've seen more old woody stations wagons than I can count. Some of them are pretty strange, too, not the "classic" woodies you see in pictures.

We have a guy with an old Checker in civilian colors who used to park next to me at the community college. A Checker is the classic old-time big taxicab that you see in old movies. They were made as cabs, though some were sold otherwise, and they have back seats big enough to play pingpong in. Cool, heavy old car. Stopped making them in '82.

There's a guy about two blocks from me who keeps two Rambler Metropolitans in his front yard. Those are those really tiny little cars from the '50s, really single-seaters.

There's a guy around town with a '58 or '59 Caddy who's lowered it, painted it black, and taken off almost all the chrome. It looks like the Evil Villain's car from an old superhero movie serial.

There's a guy with a '47 Chevy that he keeps parked at his business. Chevys from that era are nothing special, so nobody preserved them. This is like the only 46-50 Chevy I've ever seen on the road.

There's at least one Avanti on the road around here. Can't tell whether it's an actual Studebaker ('63, '64) or was made after the company went independent. It's the original design, though.

And I won't even mention the Stutz Bearcat, the '20s-era fire engine that somebody converted into a giant roadster, the Giant Purple Pimpmobile. It's a pretty cool town for car-watching. And about 40 miles from here, up in the hills, there's a very rich gentleman with a massive estate and his own private collection of tanks and armored vehicles, which he and his friends use for war games on the grand scale. Friends of mine have seen it, and I'd love to see it myself someday.

i got a nice cadillac/land rover dealership that always has a couple of really nice high-end cars on lot. so i see a bunch of nice ones around. lets see now here we go

about the DeLorean.. I think there were more because a friend of mine is going out with a guy who has one that's in really bad shape. I can't imagine people not taking care of a car that rare.. it's just not fathomable.

I have seen an immaculate 1904 Oldsmobile drive down my street, as well as another car from the same period (I didnt get to talk to the driver that time, so I dont know any details). Also, a Shelby AC Cobra(I assume it was a replica, but regardless, it was quite badass). The sounds that come from those side pipes are absolutely orgasmic. I cannot think of a more evil and powerful sound exists.

Also I have seen a couple vipers around here, parked next to one at Best Buy once just so i could drool over it. They are so much smaller up close than you expect.

A person in Bethesda on River road used to have a German Moog, an old militaryesque vehicle. Looked more like a truck, but probably designed to function like a hummer or something like that. Saw it on a tv show once, comes with hydraulic lines for things like plow blades, etc.. They said with the snorkel, you could put into 7 feet of water. The diesel engine would not stop.

OK, I was thinking of the factory he setup in Northern Ireland. He must have had another factory in the US at some stage?

Actually, there's an annual British car day around here and on those days I see a parade of old and very likely rare British cars drive past. So I've probably seen a lot of rare cars and I just don't know it. I've seen tons of TVR's on those days but I have no idea how rare they are since they're British. They look really nice, though.

Not all that rare, but since they just came out i thought it was kinda cool. Saw my first Dodge Ram SRT-10 yesterday. Was a sweet pearlized off-white color and looked most badass. I looooooove that hood scoop. One of the best looking scoops to date imo, and even the trunk spoiler doesn't look too bad.

Oh Man I have also seen a Shelby Cobra, and even from a distance those pipes sound so nice!

If it was a Shelby Cobra, than it was a replica for sure. The AC Cobra's are the original ($$$,$$$) and the replicas are the Shelby's that are generally sold as kit cars. (to my knowledge...)

Thats right, it is the unimog. Moog is a lubrication manufacturer. Saw a viper today, and often see a porsche cayenne once or twice a week.

not sure of the exact year, but it was definitely a Silver Cloud and was immaculate. very cool car to see up close.


also once had customer come in driving a canary yellow Cutlass convertible (around a 1970 or so, cant remember the year for certain). nothing particularly rare about that, except the it had right-hand steering. thats right, the steering wheel was on the right side of the car. was an overseas model that had been broght over by the owner (a serviceman) who couldnt bear to part with it when he returned stateside.

I restore bugattis for a living, to own a bugatti you have to have some pretty serious money. My biggest client live only a few miles south of me and i have to go down to his place once a twice a week, along with owning 20+ bugattis he also owns the usual ferraris, lambos and jags. Once we thaw out up here then we take the cars out and "excercise" them on the weekends.:D

i see a delorian every day and i even got to drive it because it is my neighbors and he is pretty nice he has two of them one he keeps in the garage for spare parts

I just saw a late 50s early 60s Buick Super 88.
It was beautiful, shaved doors, flat black and sparkly red dualtone paint job, fat white wall tires, and a beautiful car all around.

No and he won't buy one. We were down at the Montery Historics this year and we watched the test driver spin the veyron on the pace lap for the bugatti grand prix. It was a fairly obvious that they didn't have the chassis sorted yet, the corner it was going through shouldn't have upset the chassis enough to get it unbalanced. In my opinon, for what its worth, a 1.3 million dollar car should be able to handle a decent corner without going doing a 360.

I saw a Rolls Royce Phantom the other day. Damn that car is nice.
